What a Horrible War (Sung to the tune of What a Wonderful World)

World War II started when Hitler invaded ____________________,

He conquered most of Europe, Germany was rollin’,

And I think to myself, what a horrible war…

Hitler’s first defeat came at the Battle of ___________________,

Hitler bombed the Brits to bits, but their planes gave him a lickin’,

And I think to myself, what a horrible war…

The US stayed away, wanting no part of Europe’s wars,

We’d lend or ____________ them arms, but send no army to their shores,

But on December 7, 1941, Japan bombed _________________,

And isolationism was done.

The Russians were next, Hitler said he was their friend,

He invaded anyway, because he thought that he could win,

And I think to myself, what a horrible war.

But the winter was too cold, and the Russians held their ground,

At the Battle of ___________________, they turned Germany around.

And I think to myself, what a horrible war.

On ___________ the Allies landed

on the shores of Normandy,

They started marching eastward, to the heart of Germany,

And the Battle of ________________, in the war against Japan,

Turned the tide in the Pacific, and we headed toward their land.

And with Hitler finally dead, the war in Europe was done,

But Japan wouldn’t quit, so we dropped the atom bomb,

And I think to myself, what a horrible war.

Yes, I think to myself…. What a horrible war.
