In 1957, decorations were designed for a tree in this church using designs and monograms used by early Christians. The decorations are made in white and gold to symbolize the perfection and majesty of Christ. The white lights remind us that Christ is the light of the world. The decorations on the Tabernacle Chrismon tree were made in 1978 by the ladies of the WWW Sunday School Class. The tree was dedicated on December 5, 1978. This Chrismon tree has been a part of the Tabernacle Christmas celebration for the past 34 years. The anchor ornament pictured on the front of the bulletin cover was made by one of the WWW class members. The anchor is an ancient symbol of hope. During times of persecution early Christians would inscribe anchors in the cata- combs in which they hid and buried their dead. The anchor’s significance can be traced to the book of Hebrews which calls the hope of God’s faithfulness to us the anchor of our souls. On the first Sunday of Advent, we are focusing on the hope of God, that God goes before us and will faithfully lead us. For those of us who live between Christ’s first and second comings, we have the hope of a God that never leaves us but leads us through the wilderness.

CHRISTMAS PARTY FOR FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN—DEC. 8 Plan now to join your church family for a Christmas party for families with children on December 8 from 5:30-7:30 in the Fellowship Hall. This will be a pot-luck dinner and will include games and crafts for all ages.

RECENT DONATION The church is grateful for a contribution to the Endowment Fund in honor of Harwood Cochrane’s 100th birthday from Dick and Jane Denzler.

BUDGET APPROVAL Copies of the proposed 2013 church and TCCC budget have been placed in the back of the Sanctuary for your review. You will also find a copy of the budget in next week’s issue of The Religious Herald. Any comments/suggestions may be directed to any member of the Administrative Board (Jim McMurray, Chair) by Tuesday, December 11. A discussion time will be held on Sunday, December 9 from 10-10:30 a.m. in the Parlor, and we would welcome any concerns or comments. A vote on the final church and TCCC budgets will be taken on December 30, 2012. Please prayerfully consider both budgets.

CHRISTMAS CARD SYSTEM AT TBC Many of our church members exchange Christmas cards through the use of our church mailboxes. Please feel free to place and receive cards in the mailboxes located just outside the Church Office. We alphabetize by the first initial of the last name.

CHRISTMAS BASKETS—DEC. 22 Dozens of family and friends will gather on December 22 to deliver 100 Christmas Baskets throughout the Richmond Metropolitan area. Each bas-ket costs $42. Your financial contribution can help make a family’s Christ-mas quite special as they gather around dining room tables and enjoy a warm meal together. We hope you will make plans to join us on the 22nd as we make the deliv-eries. Breakfast is served at 9:00 a.m.—deliveries begin at 9:30 a.m. Join us as we come together to deliver food baskets to families who have indi-cated a need. We will meet together in the Fellowship Hall early that morn-ing, receive delivery assignments with addresses. This is a great opportunity to donate your time, energy, and love as a gift to someone for Christmas. Invite your friends, coworkers, and neighbors to join us!
