    Opening Songs and Responsive Words

“To God Be the Glory” To God be the glory, great things He hath done. So loved He the world that He gave us His Son,

who yielded His life, an atonement for sin, and opened the life gate that all may go in.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the earth hear His voice!

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, let the people rejoice! O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,

and give Him the glory, great things He hath done. Great things He hath taught us, great things He hath done, and great our

rejoicing through Jesus the Son. But purer, and higher, and greater will be our wonder,

our victory when Jesus we see. Praise the Lord…

Words from the Gospel of Matthew

Leader: Seeing the crowds, Jesus went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.

All: And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying: “Blessed

are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Leader: Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

All: Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Leader: Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for

    they shall be satisfied.

All: Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

Leader: Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

All: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called

    sons of God.

Leader: Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

All: Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and

utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.

Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so

they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Order of Worship June 21, 2020

  • “Jesus Is All the World to Me” Jesus is all the world to me, my life, my joy, my all.

He is my strength from day to day, without Him I would fall. When I am sad, to Him I go. No other one can cheer me so. When I am sad, He makes me glad –

He’s my friend. Jesus is all the world to me, my friend in trials sore. I go to Him for blessings, and He gives them o’er and o’er. He sends the sunshine

and the rain. He sends the harvest’s golden grain. Sunshine and rain, harvest of grain – He’s my friend.

Jesus is all the world to me, and true to Him I’ll be. Oh, how could I this friend deny, when He’s so true to me? Following Him, I know

I’m right. He watches o’er me day and night. Following Him, by day and night – He’s my friend.

“Faith of Our Fathers” (words revised by Jack Doyle)

Faith of our fathers showing how to live for Jesus every day.

We ask for courage as we bow. For this great faith we always pray.

Faith of our fathers, holy faith honoring God with every breath.

Faith of our fathers, help us take all Christ-like good they demonstrate.

Virtues that ease our daily strife will fill our hearts and honor their life.

Faith of our fathers… Faith of our fathers, we gladly see

how strong their love for God can be. Humbly we seek this faith as well

’til with our heavenly Father we dwell. Faith of our fathers…

  • Life Application Questions

“The Good Shepherd’s Rejection and Reception”

    John 10:31-42

Next Sunday’s Sermon Text: John 11:1-16

    1. Why can it be challenging to trust Jesus as our all-sufficient and

capable shepherd? What often stands in our way of trusting

    Jesus?

    2. How does the context of Psalm 82, which Jesus quotes in our

passage, shed light on the entirety of John 10?

    3. What invitation is offered in v. 37-38?

    4. How does the context of our passage make Jesus’ invitation

even more amazing and gracious? What does this teach us

about Jesus and our own rebellion?

    5. What is the dramatic difference between the response of the

Jewish leaders and those from v. 41-42?
