Time To Play Our “Trump” Card Today, and every new day presents an opportunity to choose to attempt to go for-ward or to quit or possibly do something in between.

The President Elect, Donald Trump, said things that some will find encouraging. He will rebuild the inner city and Af-rican American Community,

disappointed and possibly afraid of the Trump Presi-dency. I suggest that depend-ing on government action is risky business even when

“After All the Hell You’ve Been Through You’re Still Standing… Hallelujah!”

By Lou Coleman

Lou Coleman

I tell you David said sometimes you just got to encourage yourself. Just look back over your life, yesterday, last week, last month, last year, five years ago, you will dis-cover that you have al-ready gone through enough stuff that should have caused you to lose your mind; but you are still standing. There are others who have gone through less than you went through and com-

mitted suicide. Given up on life! But you made it through. Still Stand-ing! Although you’ve been lied on, talked about, criticized, mis-understood, mistreated, you are still standing. Hurt, wounded, knocked down, sick spells, buried loved ones, had to say goodbye to acquaintanc-es, left alone, heartbro-ken… and you are still standing. Even though the pain hurts, even though your heart is still healing, even though you still have some tender spots, and your memory is still play-ing tricks on you… you are still standing. Who am I talking too? May not have as much mon-ey as you ought to have, may not have as many friends as you think you deserve, but one thing you can say, “I’m still here.” And by being

here that says one thing, you still have a chance. You still have an oppor-tunity to reach goals that you have not reached. You still have a chance to get closer to God, and let him use you. Hurt but still standing; Misun-derstood but still stand-ing. Almost lost your life but survived the at-tack, still standing. What the devil meant for evil God turned into good. “They said you wouldn't make it. They said [you] wouldn't be, here today. They said [you’ll] nev-er amount to anything…But [you’re] still holding on. Holding on to God’s [unchanging hand] [Lyrics Luther Barnes] though the road has been rough and the goings been mighty tough…” You are still standing! dren visited the event and received access to a variety of activities. They received free books and piggy banks (No they were not full of money). There was also face painting, a magic show, plus a short con-cert! In addition to the fun stuff, there was a re-source fair that provided

valuable information to the many parents in at-tendance. The free event was from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call First 5 for informa-tion regarding upcom-ing events being sched-uled for young children at (909) 386-7706.

Covered California Begins Open Enrollment With Expanded Coverage And Lower Costs For Doctor Visits

LOS ANGELES, CA- Elaine Young spent 20 years teaching students with special needs in Los Angeles before she learned an important lesson — that her retire-ment benefits did not in-clude health insurance. “Because I worked six hours a day, my posi-tion was considered part time, and my 20 years was only equal to eight to 10 years full time,” Young, 62, recalled. While stunned by the revelation, Young was

still determined to retire and put her health insur-ance issues “in God’s hands.” Her prayers, she said, were answered last June when she enrolled in a health insurance plan through Covered Cali-fornia, the state agency that helps Californians get name-brand cover-age through the Patient Protection and Afford-able Care Act — com-monly known as Obam-acare. “I absolutely love it.

And I would highly rec-ommend it to anyone who does not have health insurance,” Young said. The fourth open-enroll-ment period under the Affordable Care Act is underway and continues through Jan. 31, 2017. Californians like Young who need health insur-ance will find new ways to shop for coverage and new ways to save. (To continue reading, visit www.wssnews.com).

“Four (4) Scorpio Divas at Westside Story Newspaper… Imagine that!Ooh Ooh Mr. Wallace Allen IV!”

By Lou Coleman

Submitted by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Riverside-San Bernardino Area Alumni Chapter

It can be very difficult to work with a Scorpio as a co-worker. Ain’t that right Mr. Allen? LOL... The Scorpio needs to be in charge professionally and does better in those jobs that will allow them flexibility and freedom to be in control. I’m talk-ing about Naomi “The Marketer” Riggins; Lou Coleman, “The Whatev-er”, Naomi “The Editor” Bonman, and Lucre-tia “Ain’t No Stopping Me” Dowdy, strong, commanding, intense, passionate and zealous. Driven, dedicated and

loyal. Ambitious and security-loving Scor-pio women independent and determined individ-uals. We will only strive to reach high goals, and we will let nothing get in our way of accomplish-ing these goals. We will do whatever is neces-sary to meet goals and don’t care whose feet we must step on in order to accomplish those goals. Watch out now! Even though we as one cele-brate our birthday’s this month, we want to send a shout out to all who are November born. Happy

Birthday to You! Now as we go and cut the cake be good to your-selves and one anoth-er….Leaving the stage singing….Happy Birth-day to Us! Happy Birth-day!

City Organizations Praise Riverside County Sheriff for Body Cameras

RIVERSIDE, CA- In the wake of the police shooting of Michael Brown in August 2014, as well as the subsequent protests in Ferguson, Missouri and around the country, there has been a call to mandate the use of body-worn camer-as to promote account-ability and transparen-cy in police civilian in-teractions. Their wide-

spread use has the po-tential to be a win-win, helping protect the pub-lic against police mis-conduct, and at the same time helping protect po-lice against false accusa-tions of abuse. We, the undersigned African American or-ganizations praise the actions of the River-side County Sheriff and County Board of Super-

visors for securing and committing the resourc-es necessary for addi-tional Sheriff officers to wear a body camera. We now ask that a citi-zen review committee be established to help in the review of the poli-cies that will govern the use of the cameras and the public availability of its footage. There is no doubt in our minds that working together, the implementation of these cameras will strength-en the trust between the African American com-munity and law enforce-ment. We further urge other law enforcement agen-cies throughout the In-land Empire to follow suit.

Options For Youth Received The Barona Band Of Mission Indians Educational Grant Award VICTOR VALLEY, CA- Options for Youth (OFY) Victor Valley Re-gion received the Bar-ona Band of Mission In-dians Educational Grant Award on November 1 at the Holiday Inn Victor-ville. During the Senior Breakfast, Rebecca Ten-nison from the 21stDis-trict presented Charles Pak, OFY Director of In-structional Operations, with the grant. On behalf of the 21st Senate District, the late state Senator Sharon Runner nominated OFY shortly before her death. It was the only school Runner’s office recom-mended for the award this year. The $5,000 grant is given to help selected schools pro-vide materials, includ-ing books and comput-ers, and to promote the academic improvement of students statewide. “Barona has sought af-ter my recommendation for a deserving school in our district; conse-quently, we have numer-ous outstanding schools in need in our district,” Runner, R-Lancaster, said in an official letter to OFY. “However, OFY stood out above the ma-ny due to the dedication and commitment dis-played by OFY leader-

ship, faculty, and staff, as well as the undeniable challenges overcome by your amazing students.” Runner said that she and her staff “worked diligently with local schools” this past spring semester to ensure high school seniors were in-formed of state and fed-eral funds available to them through the Cash for College program. “This is where we wit-nessed first-hand the genuine great works and remarkable results of

OFY.” Pak said, “OFY is very grateful for the late Sen-ator Sharon Runner’s nomination for the grant. We are also thankful for the continued support from loyal communi-ty members such as the Barona Band of Mis-sion Indians. This gener-ous grant will be used to help fund materials that promote academic im-provement and that will benefit current and fu-ture students, including books and computers.”

auction does not automatically en-title you to free and clear ownership of the property. You should also be aware that the lien being auctioned off may be a junior lien. If you are the highest bidder at the auction, you are or may be responsible for paying off all liens senior to the lien being auctioned off, before you can receive clear title to the property. You are encouraged to investigate the existence, priority, and size of outstanding liens that may exist on this property by contacting the county recorder's office or a title insurance company, either of which may charge you a fee for this information. If you consult either of these resources, you should be aware that the same lender may hold more than one mortgage or deed of trust on the property. NOTICE TO PROPERTY OWNER: The sale date shown on this notice of sale may be post-poned one or more times by the mortgagee, beneficiary, trustee, or a court, pursuant to Section 2924g of the California Civil Code. The law requires that information about trustee sale postponements be made available to you and to the public, as a courtesy to those not present at the sale. If you wish to learn whether your sale date has been postponed, and, if applicable, the rescheduled time and date for the sale of this property, you may call (800) 280-2832 or visit this Internet Web site WWW.AUCTION.COM, using the file number assigned to this case 036012-CA. Information about postponements that are very short in duration or that occur close in time to the scheduled sale may not immediately be reflected in the telephone information or on the Internet Web site. The best way to verify postponement information is to attend the scheduled sale. tion of Donald Trump can and must become a good thing, and to assure our community’s suc-cess, we must play our “Trump” card! Economic issues con-fronting our communi-ty require that concerned and talented communi-ty members visualize and effect plans that ac-knowledge our resourc-es. Demonstrating re-spect for our resourc-es and potential is a big but very achievable step. Consider that our churches deposit a esti-mated $500,000,000 per Monday. That deposit is not being levered. Addi-tionally, our trillion dol-lar annual buying- pow-er is promptly diluted by our propensity to imme-diately spend it outside

of our community. Cor-recting that bad habit will change things very quickly. Circulating money is how a commu-nity grows itself. There can be safety and secu-rity in numbers. A com-munity that successful-ly utilizes its member resources will find that others outside their com-munity will respect that accomplishment and want to work with them also. Whether the Presi-dent Elect is somehow able to do something for us or not, controlling our resources can be more beneficial than any gov-ernment program. That a group of people can spend a trillion dol-lars a year and not be ec-onomically viable is a demonstration of inap-

propriate behavior. The fact is, behavior is some-thing that can be correct-ed. In the ‘games of life’ we know that doing the unexpected, the unusu-al, can lead to triumph. Our community will find economic triumph by doing the unexpected, the unusual. Focusing on levering our resourc-es and ‘vesting our mon-ey in developing our community’ is indeed, an unexpected change and definitely appropri-ate behavior! In this game of eco-nomics, changing from a random, suicidal spend-ing attitude to a focused buying/spending strate-gy is in effect, “playing our Trump card”!

Bottom Line: Our Trump Card

Lifeway Church Hosts Successful Economic Empowerment Movement

the Black community. McDonalds Restau-rant franchisee and com-munity leader, Reg-gie Webb and Lifeway

Church Pastor, Chris Es-teves presented and co-led the discussion. The proposed solution that the Economic Empow-

turning over the House of Representatives and Senate from the Repub-licans. Not only is Harris the states first new U.S. Senator in years, but she is only the second black woman ever to be select-ed to the Senate since 1999. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, the Har-ris-Sanchez Senate race was the first major test of California’s “top-two” primary system, an experiment in democra-cy that California vot-ers approved in 2010 in an effort to reduce the highly partisan influence of the Democratic and Republican parties and give independents and

moderates more clout in the political process. Like many Califor-nians, I voted for Har-ris, and not just because she was a Black woman but because I believed in and loved her vision that she has for not only for the our state but for the Nation. I admired her speeches and I feel a lit-tle comfort knowing that she will be representing us in the Senate. Even after the news of our 45th President selection, she gave us even more comfort and persever-ance through her words. “Our ideals are at stake right now, and we all have to fight for who we are,” she said in a

speech far more somber than most victory ad-dresses. “I believe this is that moment in time for our country, where we are collectively be-ing required to look in the mirror, and with fur-rowed brow, we are ask-ing a question: Who are we? In California, I be-lieve the answer is a good one: We are a great country.” The country has sur-vived horrible presidents in the past and this one is no different. We can still preserve and achieve our greatness. Let's not let fear hinder us, but to push us further into achieving what we need to achieve.
