Sara Hudyn continues to shine for Cal State East Bay, having an-other big weekend of tournament play. She finished the four games at the 2013 LMU Invitational with 12 goals, eight steals and an assists. She had a tournament re-cord nine goals int he win over Cal State San Bernardino. The Pio-neers will travel for a key WWPA match-up against rival Cal State Monterey Bay on Sat-urday. They will also play Concordia on Saturday.

Playing in one of the nation’s toughest tourna-ments, Colorado State went 1-5 in the Arizona State Tournament, with four of the losses com-ing to ranked teams. In all, the Rams played the No. 2, No. 3, No. 18 and No. 19 teams in the country. Their win came vs. La Verne, 13-9.

Three different players recorded hat tricks in the win—Ariel Arcidiacono, Shelby Schaefer and Stephanie Weed—and Michelle Slagle had seven stops in goal. The game was back and forth in the first half, with ties at 2-2, 3-3, 4-4 and 5-5. However, late in the second period, a Schaefer goal ignited an 8-0 Rams run—with six goals coming in the third period—to secure the victory. The senior captain scored the first three goals during the run. On the weekend, the Schaefer scored 12 goals and nine assists. She also added seven steals and nine drawn ejec-tions. CSU will have this next week off before competing in Santa Clara’s The Bronco (April 6-7). Three of CSU’s games that weekend will be WWPA competitions, wrapping up the Rams’ conference slate.
