NEWSLETTEROUR SCHOOL VALUES ARE HONESTY, RESPECT & RESPONSIBILITY
4 MAY, 2017Dear Parent s,
It was wonderful to see so many parents and family members turn up to support the students at our Fun Run a fortnight ago. This whole school event also earned students points for participation, which went towards their house team. The overall winners were Wyndham ? but a big congratulations to all students who participated. It was wonderful to see the good sportsmanship and the way students encouraged each other. Our year 5 & 6 students in particular are to be compli-mented on the way they supported the younger students ? often running alongside them urging them to finish the race. Yesterday students whose times qualified them to move on to the next level of competition represented the school at the Werribee District Cross-Country event. Congratulations to all who participated, and in particular to Aimee and Levi.

Most of you would be aware that Ms O?Neill is leaving us to await the birth of her first baby very shortly. Following an extensive recruitment process we are pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Clare O?Brien to the role of classroom teacher for 3KO. At this stage it is anticipated that Ms O?Neill?s last date with us will be Friday, May 19th. Ms O?Brien will work with Ms O?Neill for the week prior to her departure to ensure a smooth handover ? and minimal interruption to the children?s learning.
Ot her baby news.........

Park ing
Once again we need to remind you about safe parking around the school. In particular double parking, parking in resident 's driveways and doing a u-turn in traffic when it would be easy to use the nearby roundabout to turn around are all a danger to the lives of our students. Please park appropriately ? and with regard for the safety of others. A reminder to parents that the car park at the back of the school (between us and the sports oval) is available for parent parking. This is not used by many? . Maybe you could consider it?
School websit e
We have a group of students working with Mr Jardine on technology as a communication means for the school. Keep an eye on the school website ? they will be adding to it on a semi regular basis. Currently there is a podcast up for you to listen too? ?
School phot os
These were held on Tuesday this week and it is anticipated that the photos will be back at school, and handed out to students, in approximately four weeks. For parents who forgot about this day, and, therefore, did not send the envelope back to school, you will need to contact the photographer directly to arrange for a copy of your child?s class photo. The details are on the envelope that was sent home. The school office is not able to make these arrangements for you unfortunately.

Hom e Reading
Teachers continue to monitor the number of nights each child reads at home. Can I encourage you to take advantage of a few spare minutes each evening to sit with your child and hear them read ? regardless of the year level they are in? The evidence is irrefutable: children who practice regularly at home ? with adult interest and support ? make much greater gains in their progress than those who don?t.
NAPLAN
A reminder to parents of students in years 3 & 5 that the
NAPLAN tests are scheduled for May 9 ? 11.
These nationwide tests of student literacy and numeracy achievement gives the school clear ideas about gaps in student learning ? and areas of strength ? and helps us to set direction about where to go next.
School Concer t ? save t he dat e!
Planning has commenced for our school concert, which is scheduled for Wednesday, July 26th, 2017 (week two, term three). There will be both a matinée and evening performance. More details will be provided at a later date but you will start to hear from your child?s class teacher about the need for cos-tumes, etc. The children really look forward to this event, and I am sure you will appreciate the hours that have gone into it when you get to witness it.
A message from your school captains,
Kokoa and Rohith.......Last Tuesday on the 25th April, we had Anzac Day. Thank you for everyone
who gave a minutes silence to pay respect to the
people who fought for our country.
On Tuesday the 2nd May we had
school photo day! the fully printed
photos will arrive later in the year.
Next Tuesday the 9th of May, Grade 3 and 5 students will be doing Naplan for 3 consecutive days. Let 's hope everyone
will try their best for NAPLAN.

On Wednesday the 3rd of May 16 students aged 8-13 years olds represented WVPS at the Werribee District Cross-Country. There were two representatives for each age group as well as gender with the 8/9 and 10 year olds running 2km and the 11 and 12/13 year olds running 3km. All students had a great time representing our school in each of their races with Aimee Webb (4SG) and Levi Byrne (5/6T) both having top 10 finishes in their
age group. Well done to all the students involved on the day.

Before and Af t er School Care
0403 280 852Are you looking for our before and after school care program? It has moved and is now located in our school gymnasium? .. as the numbers have outgrown its previous room.
Remember, you can book into our out of school hours care program as a casual user ? you don?t need to have your children attend regularly. So, if it looks like you are going to be late ? make contact with them and they will happily look after your son or daughter.
The children get fed ? and are provided with a range of activities to keep them busy. Their phone number is on the front of the newsletter.
Our school office staff do not have the capacity to mind children when parents are late. Kerrie and Sam are both often involved in meetings ? sometimes off site ? and have a number of responsibilit ies, which can take them away from the front desk.
Enjoy your upcoming weekend everyone
Kind regards
