2015 promises to be an exciting year forthe Addison Group of Companies as theirexisting businesses continue to performstrongly in their respective fields and theyalso welcome a new business into the fam-ily of companies called “Addison Acad-emy”. But what is it that makes Addisonunique in their field and keeps them onestep ahead of their competitors?

With a head office in Thornton Cleveleysbased on the ex ICI site and a support officeat Daresbury, Warrington, they are firstly wellpositioned geographically being located inclose proximity to key clients such as Victrex,Total, Ineos and National Grid.

Known across the UK as a world classengineering service provider, their exist-ing businesses cover a wide spectrum ofengineering from conceptual design ofmulti million pound industrial engineeringprojects through to high precision machin-ing of components for clients such as RollsRoyce and Airbus.

With Addison Project plc and AddisonEngineering (Hillhouse) Ltd, Addison havethe ability in-house to attend to the design, project management and execution ofmechanical based projects from £5k up to£50m. Their Precision Engineering division(Addison Engineering (Blackpool) Ltd) worksindependently to the other companies inmanufacturing precision made components

out of a range of materials including stain-less and plastics. The Precision Engineeringbusiness in particular is thriving, so what is itdriving the growth?

The company is able to demonstrate ahistory of investment into both people andtechnology. Recognising its people as itsgreatest assets they encourage a culture

of loyalty and dedication by the continualdevelopment of their staff through trainingand development enabling individuals tobe the best that they can be. They are alsocommitted to the Fylde area and continue totake on apprenticeships to develop the nextgeneration of engineers and managers.

Another key reason they continue to excel isby never resting on their laurels and alwayslooking forward to the next way that theycan improve their product to their clients.Recent investments to support this includethe build of a state of the art precisionmachine workshop in Thornton Cleveleysand investments in software and hardwareto support their design and engineeringbusinesses.

Another example which has recentlylaunched is the Addison Academy. Thisfocuses on providing learning and trainingvia the internet to the process and engineer-ing industries.

With E-learning having been proven toreduce training costs by upto 76% and toimprove retention of knowledge by 89% thiswas an area where Addison could improvethe skills of their people whilst reducingexternal training costs by completing thefunction in house. It is also a very cost effec-tive means of delivering learning content tostaff anywhere and anytime 24/7 and alsoconvenient as training can be completed onlap tops, PCs, iPads, tablets and even smartphones. Their E-learning packages are avail-able on demand for standard requirements

such as COSHH, Manual Handling, Workingat Heights, First Aid at Work etc but AddisonAcademy also have the ability to createbespoke training packages such as Companysite specific inductions, health and safetycourses and process management.

Addison Academy consultancy providesa blend of services to support clients whowant to improve their health and safety per-formance and /or achieve recognition for theimplementation of their safety managementsystem to OHSAS 18001 standard.

So, to conclude, to keep on delighting yourclients and attracting new ones, Addisonprove that you need to look forward and notbe shy when it comes to investing in yourproduct and your people.

Fleetwood Jobcentre Plus has been happy to work alongside CalaGran, where we have seen many of our claimants going into work, although these are primarily for the summer season, many ofthese employees will go into further work as they will have recentwork experience, an updated CV and a recent work reference, sotheir chances of further employment will be highly increased.

We also work very closely with North Lancashire Training Groupbased in Fleetwood who provide training to our claimants on Cus-tomer Service and IT, which again enables people to return workquickly once they have these fresh qualifications under their belt.

Fleetwood Jobcentre Plus actively work alongside ‘Blackpool BuildUp’who have been very busy up-skilling our claimants in the con-struction sector, many of these moving into employment, this willbe a smoother transition for Fleetwood claimants now that theBuild Up Training Centre has relocated to Kingcraig Avenue.

Last year we worked very closely with the new Hungry Horse pubin Fleetwood, arranging training/up-skilling to our claimants whowere then successful in finding work with them. We subsequently

have a good on-going relationship with the company, who often

come directly to us when they have vacancies they want to fill.

Work experience is an ideal way to try a job whilst still retaining

the security of their benefits. If a claimant doesn’t have a lot of

work experience, then it’s well worth considering. Work coaches

will try to secure experience in an industry that will benefit them

the most.

Benefits ofWork Experience:• Gets you through the door - you meet the employer face to face

• Gives you an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a job

you are interested in

• Proves to an employer that you are willing to learn and work

• Shows that you can get to work - and on time

• It is something to put on your CV to prove that you have

previous experience

Local Garden Centre, Barton Grange are inthe process of strengthening their greencredentials, the centre which opened in2011 integrated solutions such as rainwater collection and ground source heatingin the initial build but demonstrating theircommitment to make optimum use of natu-ral sources of energy available to them theyhad been watching the development of thesolar panel technology with interest.

Solar panel electricity systems, also knownas solar photovoltaics (PV), capture thesun’s energy using photovoltaic cells. Thesecells don’t need direct sunlight to work -they can still generate some electricity ona cloudy day. The cells convert the sunlightinto electricity, which can then be used di-rectly by the business to cut electricity bills,a very appealing thought, not only thatbut utilising sunlight, which is free, cuts thebusinesses carbon footprint.

The scheme also qualifies for The Feed-inTariff (FIT) scheme, a government pro-gramme designed to promote the uptakeof a range of renewable and low-carbonelectricity generation technologies, ofwhich solar is one. For a fixed period, currently 20 years, you can be paid for theelectricity you generate, even if you use ityourself, and for any surplus electricity youexport to the grid, it’s a win win situation.

Collinson have been trading since 1962,initially supplying storage and materialhandling systems within the agriculturalsector before diversifying into construc-tion offering a diverse range of high qualityconstruction projects into the sports andleisure and industrial and commercial sec-tors. Not new to the renewables sector Col-linson have been manufacturing storage forbiomass wood pellets since 1984, now MCScertificated for the supply and installationof solar panels.

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme(MCS) was introduced to offer consumerprotection to this new booming sector, aninternationally recognised quality assur-ance scheme supported by the Departmentof Energy and Climate Change. MCS is alsoan eligibility requirement for the Govern-ment’s financial incentives, which includethe Feed-in Tariff and the Renewable HeatIncentive.

In addition to MCS, consumers need assur-ance that the technology they are invest-ing in is not only; innovative, reliable andefficient but also supplied by a companywho can demonstrate longevity and fi-nancial stability, a warranty is not worththe paper it is written on if the company isno longer around to honour and supportthe equipment! Trading for over 50 years,

Collinson have a reputation for deliveringquality products with excellent service and, where needed, customer support which isreflected in customer feedback.

Dan Collinson, Managing Director said ‘Re-newable energy is growing at a tremendousrate, technology is much more affordablenowadays and as energy prices are increas-ing, people are seeing that renewables re-ally are a viable investment which will givea great return on investment’

Dan continued ‘In such a relatively youngindustry we can work with clients to ensurethey invest with confidence, an assurancewe can confidently give them’

With Barton Grange having numerousSouth and SouthWest facing roofs offeringoptimum conditions for solar installations,Managing Director, Guy Topping re-searched the market for suppliers of qualityequipment. Guy had spoken to a numberof installers when he learned Collinson hadadded Solar PV to their renewable range ofproducts.

Impressed with the Collinson product,Guy also like the fact that Collinson, a localfamily company, had been trading overfifty years, giving a reassurance that theywould be around for the lifetime of theirequipment but this was a business deci-sion so the figures needed to stack up too, they needed a competitive price and goodinstallation programme, Collinson ticked allthe boxes and an agreement was made.

The 400kw system at Barton Grangeconsists of 1600 panels which are being in-stalled over 11 roofs, once up and runningthe system will generate 3 00,000 kwh ofelectricity, which will be utilised within thegarden centre, this green renewable energywill save over 160 tonnes of carbon dioxidepollution every year, a massive carbon foot-print reduction for Barton Grange and theirenvironmental commitment.

As the project is nearing completion GuyTopping said “We’re pleased with howthings have gone with the installation andwe’re looking forward to it all being upand running and soaking up all that lovelysunshine!”

Sunshine, something we are all lookingforward to this summer but don’t just soakup the rays yourself, with an investment insolar you could be generating your ownenergy supply too!
