• Congratulations to Xavier senior Spencer Hughes who has been named a National Merit Scholarship Finalist!• Xhiliration competed last Saturday at the “Music in Motion” Show Choir Competition hosted by Mount Pleasant High School. Xhiliration placed 1st in Daytime and won their 3rd straight Grand Championship this year! Xhilira-tion also placed 1st in the following categories: Best Vocals, Best Choreography, and Best Band. Congratulations to Mr. Last and all members of Xhiliration!• Xhiliration & Xuberance compete this Saturday in the “Touch of Class” Show Choir Competition host by Benton Community. Xuberance takes the stage at 11:00 a.m. followed by Xhiliration at 5:25 p.m.• The State Large Group Speech Contest was held on February 6th. 8 groups received a Division I Rating and 3 groups received a Division II Rating. Two groups earned All State nominations: Musical Theatre – Next to Normal, Spencer Hughes, Sydney McCoy & Shaun Meyer. Non Performing Nomination – Musical Theatre – Avenue Q, Jimmy Deignan, Eric SweeneJimmy Deignan, Eric Sweeney, Marissa Satern, Alex Sievers, Alex Gerleman & Matt Rector. The Next to Normal group will perform at Iowa State University on Saturday, February 20th at 1:40 p.m. Congratulations to Speech Di-rector Mr. Scott Davidson and all members of Large Group Speech!• The Girls & Boys Bowling teams swept Iowa City High last Friday. The Girls team set three team scoring records in their match! Both teams compete again today against Waterloo West @ Maple Lanes in Waterloo beginning at 4:00 p.m. Good luck to Coach Camacho and all members of the Bowling teams!• The 12th ranked Girls Basketball team beat 9th ranked Cedar Rapids Washington on Monday by a score of 46 to 32. The team has a current record of 13-7.• The Girls & Boys Basketball teams play in a doubleheader tonight @ Iowa City High. The Girls game begins at 6:00 followed by the Boys game at 7:30 p.m. Good luck to Coach Lilly, Coach Jenkins and all members of the Basketball teams!• Michael Lyon has qualified in four events for the State Swim Meet which will be held on Saturday at the Community Y of Marshalltown. The following Saints have been selected in the MVC “Mississippi” Division: 1st Team: Braxton Chicchelly & Josh McDonald, Honorable Mention: John Slater, Peter Ickes & David Ryberg, AllAll Academic: Josh McDonald & Jason Milke• The Wrestling team competes in a 3A District on Saturday @ Cedar Rapids Jefferson. Matches begin at noon. Good luck to Coach Kadlec and the team as they compete to qualify for state!• The Drama Department will present a Children’s Theatre production of “Peter Pan” next week in the Regis/LaSalle Theatre. General Admission tickets are $2 and will only be sold at the door.
