The Hanson County Conservation Distrid is in the middle of designing and constructing a Downtown Nature Park for the c'@ of Alexandria. This project has so h r has been very successful with the communiQ. To list some of the Players that have been involved in the project are: Hanson High School, Hanson County 4-H clubs, several residents, the city of Alexandria, Distrid Ill, Hanson County, Girl Smuts, RC & Dl NRCS, John Ball (Professor Forestry and Extension Specialist- SDSU), Community Development Organization, John Hinners (Region Service Forester), Rick Gullickson (Area Agronomist) and this is only some of the names that we have gotten responses from.

As of right now we are at the point of putting in the wiring under ground for the lighting of the paths and the flags. We have an electrician lined up to do the work and we are looking fot a donation for the supplies that will be needed. If you will need a list of all of the supplies, I could get that from the electrician.

There will be a place in the park that will list the names of the people, groups, and company's that played a part in making this become a reality and we would l ~ v e to add you to our list.

Dear Mary:

Thank you for contacting the Tea Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) on the Excel Energy $1,000 donation.

TEDC has been working with KELO-TV on an image campaign and our next step is to develop a City brochure to send to prospective clients. The brochure will include information on utility services, workforce, growth projections, and land available. If you have any input on this project or would like to see any specific information incorporated, please let me know.

Another project planned for 2005 is to replace the Tea city sign with a permanent structure. The TEDC is working with a local sign company on the design and location. The TealEllis Road (469th Street) has nearly 9,000 vehicles traveling in and out of Tea on a daily bases which will require a five lane road in the near future. Between a new sign and road, the entrance into Tea will be going through some positive improvements.

A project that is now completed is the Avera Medical Center. The Clinic and Tea Chiropractic Center are currently tenants of the building. We have been working with an Optician to fill the remaining 1,600 square feet. The light industrial park has seen a lot of interest over the past few months with the first tenant beginning construction in the spring. TEDC is also working with two hardware stores and a fast food chain with ground breakings planned yet this year.

I am writing today in regards to funds Xcel Energy has available for community projects. In 2002 the City of Canistota renovated the local swimming pool. At that time we were faced with a decision, do we close the swimming pool or try to raise the money and renovated it. With help from local businesses and residents, the city was able to raise over $20,000 in donations along with funds set aside in the pool budget to help get the renovations completed. The city also imposed a sales tax bond to cover the remaining $1 50,000 of the project. Xcel Energy was part of that initial fund raising.

Two years later we are faced with yet another challenge. The bathhouse at the swimming pool was built during the same time period as the original pool construction, early 1970's. Due to the aging of the building and safety issues pointed out at the state level; the city has once again had to make a difficult decision. Do we band-aid the current building or gut the inside and bring it up to code?

This spring the maintenance department has been busy rebuilding and updating the inside of the bathhouse with many areas still in need of work. I am writing to Xcel Energy hoping that once again Xcel will help us fund this worthwhile project. Canistota's pool is not only used by those in the Canistota area but others from Bridgewater, SD, and other surrounding communities.

The City of Canistota would like to take this opportunity to thank you for Xcel's past support and we look forward to working with you on future projects.
