Dear Friends,
CHRIST IS RISEN! INDEED HE IS RISEN! As we live out another week of our lives during this corona virus pandemic, we have a lot of time to think about so many things, but as Christians, we need to think about the joy of our faith. Our parish staff has been calling our parishioners all week to see if you are ok or as best you can be. The comments and support are overwhelmingly positive. It helps us to minister in the Lord's name to you. I am so proud of our staff. The best ministry and work of our hands is happening while the church pews are empty. We are like those early Christians huddled in their homes, and in them Jesus appears and says to them and us, Don't be afraid. Jesus enters the disciples' locked room and breathes on them, creating them anew with the gift of the Holy Spirit. Pope Francis says the "joy of God" is to forgive. He says it is "the whole gospel, it is all of Christianity!" We participate in the Gospel, in the "joy of God," when we forgive others and forgive ourselves. Is there a locked room of your heart that needs the Holy Spirit to enter? If there is someone you need to forgive, pray each day for God's blessing on that person. If your heart is not yet open to forgiveness, pray for the desire to forgive. Are you in need of forgiveness? This break in the routine of our daily way of living gives us the opportunity to remember what is truly important in our life. Even in the darkest hour, Jesus reminds us not to be afraid, but to follow Him. I know we have a lot of anxious brides and grooms, second graders wanting to receive Holy Communion, as well as, those preparing for Christian initiation through the RCIA and our young people waiting for the Sacrament of Confirmation. As soon as we are assured of the possibility to gather using common sense to celebrate these sacraments, we will call each family and let you know the dates for these celebrations. Be patient, and think how you will never forget what we are going through, but how much better we will be when this too will pass. Have a blessed, healthy and safe week,
Fr. Mike
...while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him… —Luke 24: 13-35
"Barefoot on the path" to Emmaus. . . Kathleen and Harry met in college, "directionless and broke, barefoot on the path of life," they remember. Something clicked and the couple embarked on a journey together that has lasted 45 years. They established careers, married, had two wonderful kids. Like every good marriage, they celebrated moments of ecstasy—and, like the best of marriages, conquered the obstacles and survived the hardships. Forty-five years later, with the children raised and settled with families of their own, Kathleen and Harry looked ahead to a new chapter. But that all changed with three words: "You have cancer." And so began a new journey—one of uncertainty, hope and fear shifting with every CT scan and lab result. The cancer is inoperable and incurable, but doctors tell them that it's controllable through chemotherapy. On this new road, Kathleen and Harry are traveling light, stripping away the excess baggage of their lives, relentlessly rooting out the things they don't use, need or want. The days of detailed calendars and planners are over—now they focus on the here and now. They will always worry about the future of their kids and grandkids, but the endless noise of politics and division don't even register. The day-to-day stresses of building and maintaining a lifestyle no longer matter. They read more; they talk more. Their daily routine has become more interesting, more relevant. Volunteering and community work are more fulfilling. Harry writes of his and Kathleen's life in an essay in The Boston Globe: "Our hearts and minds are much fuller ...There's no telling what this chapter in our lives will bring, or how long it will last. Inevitably, one of us will start a new chapter alone, but it's nothing we need to think about right now. As we strip away the distractions and detritus of 45 years together, we are, once again, getting closer to what we were in the beginning: barefoot on the path of life." A couple travels the hard road between Good Friday and Easter, seeking to live these days to the fullest. What illuminates their road to Emmaus is the love of God that first "clicked" for them 45 years ago and continues to be a living reality in this new, unpredictable chapter of their lives. God travels with us on our own roads to Emmaus; God is present in the broken bread of compassion and healing we offer and receive from our fellow travelers. Easter faith is to recognize God in our midst: in our wanting to understand, in our struggle to make things right, in our brokenness. May this Easter season open our hearts and spirits to recognize Christ among us in every moment of our lives, in both the bright promising mornings and the dark, terrifying nights.

HAIL, HOLY QUEEN
Hail Holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy towards us. And after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

STEWARDSHIP DEACON JOHN'S STEWARDSHIP COLUMN
During this virus time, I was reminded of a book entitled Mister God, This Is Anna by Fynn. In this story Anna, a precocious orphan from England, teaches Fynn, her adult caretaker, about who God really is. One evening when Anna and Fynn were talking about the light and darkness of a day, Anna told Fynn why she liked the darkness. “Your soul don’t go very far in the daylight ’cos it stops where you can see…The nighttime is better. It stretches your soul right out to the stars. And that…is a very long way.” (p. 145-146) Perhaps the darkness of this virus time is stretching each of us to lift our eyes to the stars; to seek who and what is really important in our life. Although we as a parish have come a long way in living a deeper meaning of stewardship, God has challenged us to walk a step further on our journey. May our difficult and scary moments help us catch a glimpse of the stars we can only see in the darkness of night. Listen to God saying, “You have come to find meaning in ordinary ways of giving your time, talent, and treasure. Now use this corona darkness to discover the bright time, talent, and treasure stars you have never seen before." God bless, Sister Bernadine Janci, S.N.D.
50 / 50 “POT OF GOLD” The Pot of Gold number for April 22 is #872. There was no winner. The winner would have received $464.00.
