Every day we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. The Y now operates eight program sites with a continuum of care for children in the Corona-Norco and Jurupa Valley Unified School Districts ages 18 months to high school.
We are always looking for support from our community. If you would like more information of how you can help, please contact Lorena Gomez (951) 736-1415 or [email protected] The Corona-Norco Family YMCA is a 501(c) (3) charitable organization classified by the Internal Revenue Service.

Theme: Hawaiian week This week the children will explore and learn about the Island of Hawaii. We will research
This week we are learning about objects in space. The children will make and dress up in space outfits. We will discuss why people go to space and the things they can and will do in space. The students have three weeks left in traditional school, and are taking tests at their schools. Our teachers will offer sup-port and help as needed to assure their suc-cess. We will be taking pictures of the awards the children received. They will also be playing games of baseball and soccer and doing bike races. We will do arts and crafts daily, as well as working on spelling, site words, and bingo games.
specifically the history of the Lei; what kind of flowers or seeds are needed to make a Hawaiian Lei; what is the meaning of the colors of Hawaiian Leis; why in Hawaii people have few rules for whoever wants to wear a Hawaiian Lei; and the significance of the Lei. As well we will learn about the special occasions when people can have or give a Hawaiian Lei to someone they love. Children are exited for this week to make Hawaiian activities which includes the Hawaiian Lei, a pineapple, and a Luau mask. Friday they will bring their favorite toy to share with their friends.

Toddlers - During this week we will be working around a farm theme where children will have the opportunity to discuss and do art activities that involve farm animals while singing farm themed songs such as “Old MacDonald had a farm.” Some of the activities we will be doing include a farm puppet show, farm animal dress up, sponge painting, yogurt painting, tie dye milk, and a shredded paper and cotton
ball art. Preschool 1 – This week our class will be changing topics and will begin our Creative Curriculum study of Balls. We will discuss what is a ball, what shape is it. We will look at what materials are used to make a ball. We will explore different size and shapes of balls. We will be discussing what games are played with a ball. Preschool 2 – We will be taking a break from our creative curriculum study about balls and focus on Mother’s Day. The children will discuss about Mother’s Day and what it is and why do we celebrate. The children will make a mother’s day gift for their mom and it will be given to the moms on Friday. Preschool 3 - This week we will focus our study by learning learn about buildings. We will study some different buildings from around the world such as The Leaning Tower of Pisa, Eiffel Tower, and the Tahj Mahal. We will also study how culture and diversity plays a role in how buildings look in different countries. School age – The class will be focusing on health issues. They will be discussing Healthy living, vision and exercise. They will do science activity dealing with vision and eye safety. They will discuss eye health and how often people should get their eyes checked. The children will also be discussing animal safety and care.
This week, we are expanding our study on Recycle, Reduce, and Reuse. The children have already explored with a variety of reusable materials. They have worked with materials to make something new out of something old. They have used their imaginations and creativity to make their own creations, with something old. This will allow them to problem solve and work together.
The children will have an opportunity to learn about different symbols that represent a meaning such as recycle. The children will also, learn about what items in the classroom they think are recyclable. The teachers will give them the correct answers when needed. The children will learn about who takes the trash away and how it is taken away. We will discuss with the children several different questions about trash. For example, we will ask them about throwing our trash away, what would happen with the trash, if the trash is not thrown away? Should we throw away trash on the streets? Who will help the community stay clean? Why is it important to throw away trash? The teachers’ will share about what items they recycle at home and the children to have an opportunity to share about what color trash cans they have at their home. We will ask them, who throws out the trash at home and if they have ever visited a recycling center before.
In addition, the children will listen to the story called,
“Mama, Do you Love Me? By,
Barbara M. Joosse. We will ask
the children to draw a picture of their Mom. The children will be asked, what is the story
about? Can they share something about their Mom, and what they like doing with
their Mom. The children will learn new vo-cabulary words, such as amazing, straw, scrap paper, full, treasure, carry, cracked
eggs, and slowly.

We hope that all our families had a great Mother’s day.
This week we are expanding our exploration of recycling. Last week both classes made projects out of recycled materials. Ms. Bousha's class made robots. The children had lots of fun creating their works of art. Miss
City Park
Irene's class made big pizzas out of recycled art materials. On Tuesday, May 5, Katheryn's mom from our First Five class, donated 2 piñatas for Cinco de Mayo. We asked parents to donate toys for us to fill them. The children were able to each have a turn to break the piñatas and had a fun day. We thank all of our parents who donated the toys and a big thank you to Rosa for the piñatas.
This week, Miss Bousha and Miss Christina's class are going to be learning about what happens to old bottles and cans when they become empty. Miss Irene's class will be talking about “where does trash go?" They will be making things with trash such as a camera, a tambourine, and a guitar.
CALVERT: This week we will be expanding our farm theme by creating their own goat out of paper plates, a pig with mud using sponges and paint. Also, we will be collaging a duck for sensory and the children will be able to make butter out of heavy cream on Friday. We will be focusing on letters…O,C, S and the number 19. Children will get to compare and talk about whole milk, skin and 2% milk for science. SCHOOL AGE: In celebration of National Police Officer Week, this week we are proudly honoring the men and women on the police force. We will be creating cards for the officers, making small thank you gifts, and will be educating the children on the difficult job the officers face every day. We will be discussing and talking about the law and why they are important. The duties of a police officer, which includes making sure that everyone obeys the laws. Also, we will be discussing, the “safe stranger” vs. “stranger danger” and about the tools and equipment that officers use. FIRST FIVE: This week, we are studying insects. We will be discussing the four stages of metamorphosis. In math, we will be using bug counters to practice our adding and subtracting. In circle
Main Y time we are reading books such as Ladybug, The Hungry Caterpillar, and more books written by Eric Carle. We will continue to practice our writing techniques, focusing on the letter of the week. We are making Mother’s day gifts as well…so it will be a busy week. STATE 1: This week we are investigating our planet Earth. We will explore the wonders of Earth. Discuss the Earths water, talk about the land and air. We will work with puzzles and maps of our world.
