Lyco Innovations of Ballarat are best known for their building andagricultural products, such as wool presses and wastecompaction systems, but a little over 12 months ago theypurchased the Afron Power Ladder brand from anotherAustralian manufacturer, Austrael Machinery.

Traditionally the Afron SA range of power ladders is fitted with asmall single cylinder engine. However, when a customerapproached them asking for a Yanmar TNE series dieselengine they had to start from scratch. With the informationprovided on the Power Equipment web-site they were able setabout engineering a Yanmar 3TNE74-SA power pack into theAfron SA model power ladder. With a little modification Lyco soonhad the Yanmar 3TNE74-SA Power Pack build engine fitted tothe machine and the customer is thrilled with the result. Inparticular, the noise level of the engine is very low for a dieselengine, and has excellent fuel economy. The 3TNE74-SA alsofeatures genuine one side servicing, which assists greatly inminimizing maintenance time.

Lyco Innovations manufacture the range of Afron self propelledelevated work platform’s for use in industrial and orchardapplications. The Afron range of power ladders have beenmanufactured in Australia for the past thirty years and haveearned a reputation for high quality and durable equipment.Power ladders offer a safer alternative to traditional ladders, andallow the operator excellent access to the task at hand, and freehands to carry out the harvest, or maintenance.

Although this was the first Yanmar TNE series engine that Lycohas fitted, they report that they were all very impressed with thequality of the 3TNE74-SA engine; “The information available tous on the website was a great resource and made this a mucheasier task.”

All enquiries on the Afron range of power ladders should bedirected to Lyco Innovations P.L. - ph: 03 5342 6868.

Central West Pumps in Cowra, NSWwere approached by Canowindra TurfGrowers, Turf The Lot, to supply adiesel pumpset for a river pumpsystem. The pumpset duty was100LPS with a 30m head, pumping toan irrigation channel that in turn fed alateral moving irrigator.

A critical factor in the supply was thedelivery time. Power Equipment’s GuyOliver was approached and a4TNE106 was selected for the jobalong with a Davey ISO Pump. AsPower Equipment could meet thecritical delivery time the order wasplaced with Power Equipment’sHead Office in Melbournestressing the urgentdelivery. The Irrigation Packwas delivered onAustralia Day toCentral WestPumps andabout 2 hourslater was outof theworkshopand loadedonto thecustomers truck.

The deadline was met, andCentral West Pump’s customerwas happy with the unit and the

impressive dedication of Central WestPumps staff, Power Equipment andDavey.

*******************

At the time of writing this story theengine had run 56 hours and wasusing a modest 8 litres of fuel per hourrunning at 2000 rpm.

When considering the Yanmar 4TNE106one of the main factors was the en-gines ability to run smoothly. Noisel e v e l was also important due

to the location of thepump on the farm.

NO PROBLEM - TheTNE series of en-gines have signifi-cantly lower noiselevels, especiallymechanicalnoises. Timinggears andinjection drive

gears are two areaswhich have received

intense design effort. Helicalprofile gears are quieter, and the

use of stiffer shaft materials has re-duced flex allowing finer bearing

tolerances.

OUR CUSTOMERS....OUR NO.1 PRIORITYOUR CUSTOMERS....OUR NO.1 PRIORITY The latest weapon in NSW Fisheries

protection ‘FPV Sydney Swan’, waslaunched by the New South Walesfisheries minister Ian McDonald at theirSydney Harbour based “Gore Cove”facility on the 13th December 2005. Withan overall length of 13.83 metres and animpressive array of modern safety andsurveillance equipment it will target theoperations of illegal fisherman especiallyin the many isolated sections on theNSW South Coast from it’s home portbase at Batemans Bay.

This vessel, named ‘Sydney Swan’ afterthe success of the Sydney SwansAustralian Football League team inwinning the 2005 premiership, is aSteber 43 twin-screw fast patrol boatwith a forward wheelhouse, flybridge, large cockpit and fixed shelter above theforward half of the cockpit.

Two fast rigid hull inflatable vessels areincluded, one atop the cockpit shelterand one on a portable cradle on thecockpit deck which are installed to carryout rapid, random inspections of inshoreabalone and lobster diving locations. While the ‘Swan’ will mainly be used totarget illegal fishing, it will also conductcompliance operations to ensurerecreational and commercial fisherscomply with bag and catch limits.

Sydney Swans players Adam Goodes,Jared Crouch and David Spriggsattended the launch along with manydistinguished guests that included ourown Mike Egan (P.E NSW Marine SalesManager), Alan Steber (ManagingDirector) and Chris Elford (SalesManager) from Steber InternationalNSW.

The 43-foot vessel is powered by a pairof Yanmar 6CXM–GTE2, 360kW marinediesel engines driving through Twin DiscMG 5075A Gearboxes and 4 bladecupped propellers. The 6CX series isrenowned amongst pleasure andcommercial users for its uncomplicateddesign and easy maintenance. Its sixcylinder 24 valve direct injection designwith standard mechanical injectioncontrols combined with a very efficientturbocharger and intercooler systemexhibits superb fuel consumption andimpressive power to weightspecifications.

Again Steber International excelled witha top class engine installation, one thatshows their long history as a provensupplier of commercial and hi qualitypleasure craft vessel for over 55 yearsand their reputation is well deserved. With a very tight build andcommissioning schedule leading up tothe festive season Steber again showed

their project management experienceand met all sea trial and delivery targetsahead of schedule with a minimalamount of stress. Something very muchappreciated by our commissioningengineer and service manager Mr. ErikMeijer who together with Steber wasjuggling many new vessel launchesleading up to Christmas 2005.

This package provides for impressiveacceleration with a top speed underoperational conditions of 28knots witheconomical cruise speed’s and noiselevels that easily meet the contractedrequirements. Characteristic’s, whichparticularly pleased experienced seagoing officer Skipper Steve Church, ashis operational area covers a very largearea and includes many river barcrossings.

Following the commissioning ceremonyMinister Ian McDonald, somedistinguished guests and several SydneySwans AFL footballers were taken on asea trial demonstration in SydneyHarbour. After some rigorous andimpressive manoeuvres both at lowspeed and high speed all aboard wentaway impressed and verycomplimentary not only of theexceptional performance but the verylow noise and vibration levelsexperienced.

On board power requirements are easilyhandled by the inclusion of a Mase IS 8Yanmar powered marine generator set. With a high quality soundproof enclosureand a well-proven 3TNE78A 1500rpm 3-cylinder diesel engine, NSW Fisheriesare ensured of long reliable and

economical service again with this choice.

This is the second Steber / Yanmarpowered vessel purchased by the NSWDepartment of Fisheries. The first being aSteber 37 with twin 6LY2A-STP’s (313kW)and Twin Disc MG5061A gears waslaunched in October 2001 and is based inthe Northern NSW port of Coffs Harbour. With over 4 years of successful operationand a proven history of very economicaloperation, this vessel has confirmed thatthe choice by NSW Fisheries to selectYanmar for their propulsion powerrequirements has been the right one.

FPV Sydney Swan is an important newweapon in the NSW state governmentson-going effort’s to protect our marineresources from the effects of illegalfishing. With the NSW commercial fishingsector contributing over $ 90 million eachyear alone to NSW Economy and directlyemploying more than 4000 people acrossthe state it is one that obviously is worththe effort.

Combined with the many otherYanmar powered Steber builtcraft currently in service in NSWwith organizations such asregional coastguards, NSWWaterways and a recent 4 vesselorder for the NSW Water Policethere is no doubt Yanmar andSteber International are provingthat they also are a force to bereckoned with when it comes tohi quality well performing patrolcraft.

March 2006 saw Melbourne host the XVIII Commonwealth Games. Thegames ran for 12 days, with 71 countries and 4500 athletes taking partin 16 sports. Often hailed as the sports and cultural capital of Australia,Melbourne has a long history of staging major events, from theOlympics held in 1956, to Grand Slam Tennis and Formula One whichare held every year.

This reputation is well deserved, as Melbourne has proved yet againduring the 2006 Commonwealth Games. It’s resident population ofaround 3.5 million are strong supporters of sport and together with fineorganisation, Melbourne’s excellent sporting facilities and perfectweather conditions for the full duration, Melbourne hosted what allinvolved described as an overwhelming success.

The 12 day event commenced with a spectacular Opening Ceremonyas the Melbourne skyline erupted in a blaze of fireworks. Approx80,000 people filled the recently renovated Melbourne Cricket Groundto watch the ceremony and hear Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II,declare the games open. Over 100,000 people crammed along thebanks of the Yarra River and an estimated 1.5 billion people worldwidetuned in to the start of the event. A key part of the opening ceremonywas the conclusion of the Queen’s Baton Relay’s 180,000km epicjourney, visiting each and every one of the 71 countries that make upthe Commonwealth. The planning and staging of the Baton Relay wasimpressive and a credit to the planning committee. This was the firsttime in the history of the Commonwealth Games the baton visited eachand every one of the Commonwealth countries.

The last leg of the Queen’s Baton Relay traveled along the Yarra Riverfrom the Melbourne CBD to the Melbourne Cricket Ground itself. It wasa spectacular parade in which Yanmar played a key part.

Yanmar Serves Up A Gold Medal Performance ForThe 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Melbourne Water Taxi’s MV Rebecca powered by a Yanmar 4JH3E andskippered by the owner Mr. Andrew Bird played a major role transportingthe Queen’s Baton down the Yarra River.

Michael Blair (Power Equipment’s National Marine Sales Manager) had morethan one reason to be nervous on the opening night. His 11 year old sonLindsay had been selected to represent the children from Auskick Victoriain the Queen’s Baton Relay and had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity tocarry the Queen’s Baton as it proceeded along the river on board MVRebecca.

Lindsay reveled in what was a great experience for him, which alsoinvolved meeting all of the 16 AFL captains and mixing with them sociallyduring practice and after the ceremony. Michael and his family quietlyhoped that Lindsay would not drop the Baton into the River but Lindsaythrived in the spotlight and ably performed everything that was expected ofhim on the big night. An extra thrill for him was having his footy shirtsigned by all the captains.

The baton was passed into the hands of the 16 Australian AFL captains, then handed to football legend Ron Barassi, then Olympic great Herb Elliotbefore entering a joyous stadium. The on river entertainment includedapprox 30 Yanmar powered couta boats and their respective crews fromthe Sorrento Couta Boat Club. Their vessels were glowing in the spot lightthanks to some very creative illuminated lighting. For all present and awareof the couta boat heritage in Victoria, this sight was simply spectacular andone that will be remembered for a long time.

With many other Yanmar powered vessels involved both in patrol, watertaxi and floating restaurant applications, the reputation of the Yanmarproduct again came to the fore. All craft performed exceptionally over the

With the Formula One being held on the following weekendafter the 2006 Closing Ceremony and yet another influx of internationalvisitors following this event, the various Yanmar power commercial craftwere again put to the test and delivered the goods.

and maintenance. We are very grateful that the local Yanmar dealerswho maintain most of these craft provide great support to ensurecontinued reliability for these pleasure and commercial craft. Specialthanks and congratulations are in order to the crew at the WoodenBoat Shop at Sorrento, and Mariner Engineering at Williamstown, whoservice the majority of these vessels. It was they who helped makepossible a night that we will remember for all the right reasons.

Andrew Bird (owner of Melbourne water taxi’s) commented that theCommonwealth Games were the busiest trading period he hasexperienced in the 10 year trading history of his company with over9000 passengers ferried during the 12 day period between eventvenues and his base at the Melbourne CBD. He went on to say thereliability and economical performance of MV Rebecca and his otherYanmar powered craft continues to amaze him.

FUNCTIONAL opulence is a goodplace to start when describing thelatest addition to the EagleCatamarans fleet, but once you stepaboard “Sea Eagle” it is obvious thatwords alone just can’t do justice tothe craftsmanship and finish thathas gone into this ocean going 51foot floating home.

With more than enough room tocater to a family of five and thecapacity to sleep at least 8 people ina day-nighter situation this vesselhas every creature comfort to makeyour time at sea a pure pleasure.

Designed for couples or smallfamilies the small ship has anexpansive galley with full sized gasrange and the largest gas/electricfridge available and the inclusion ofa 150 litre chest freezer gives herowners the ability to store food forextended stays at sea.

Built by Len Perry in collaborationwith well-respected designer ofNUSTAR boats, Nelson Raebell “SeaEagle” is a vessel built withoutcompromise.

The “Sea Eagle” is powered by twin230 horsepower Yanmar 4LHA-STPMarine Diesel Engines coupled toZF63A marine gear boxes. Theydeliver a comfortable cruising speedof around 14 knots with a top speedclose to 20 knots.

She is a culmination of ten years ofdevelopment and represents Len’sdream of building the ultimate live-aboard vessel.

The boat features a massive fullyenclosed wheelhouse with up to theminute electronics and an easilyoperated helm situated on theupper level fly-deck enabling greatvisibility in tight marinas.

The electronics package includesGPS, chart plotter and autopilotallowing for automated cruising onceclear of the harbour.

The hull is designed for entry toshallow water drawing barely900mm and with high freeboard sheis perfect for getting in andexploring the coastal waterways ofQueensland.

This vessel is built in Queensland byAlloy Worx and features a tunnel hullwhich is similar to a design used byprofessional fisherman in SouthAustralia some 30 years ago. It was apopular boat then and today thereare still plenty of them in use withcommercial Garfish netters andrecreational fishers alike. Theadvantage of these boats is theirshallow draft and low shaft angle aswell as having a good proportion ofthe propeller recessed into the tunnelmaking them well suited to theshallow water frequented by thefisherman’s prey.

The Evolution has a raked modernline with solid hardtop where a inflat-able tender could be readily stowed. It covers the wheelhouse that whilebare in appearance, proves verypractical. A galley across the bulk-head of the wheelhouse featuresfresh water tap and sink with stow-age area which is great for washingup while fishing or preparing food etc.Running from the galley forward onthe port side is a bench with anicebox installed under a hard basedcushion.

A wide door leads into a spaciouscabin which has a removable bunkinfill to allow for seating andunder-bunk storage. On thestarboard side is amacerated head whilethe bunk oppositeholds the 40ft pump-out holding tank. With plenty of headroom and length, the cabin can sleeptwo comfortably.

A hatch in the forward bulkhead givesaccess to the rope and chain pileunder the Maxwell Freedom winch anda large tinted skylight provides lightand ventilation.

The helm is well laid out with theYanmar “C” Type Instrument Panel andMorse engine control within easy reachand there is heaps of room for thelarge cabinet of electronics behind thethree panel hardened glass screen. The cabin also has sliding Perspexwindows on both sides. The helm seatis on a module coming out from thecabin liner, rather than attached to thedeck and the seat slides forward andaft.

Below the galley is a hatch givingaccess to the front of the Yanmarmodel 4JH3-DTE, 125hp at 3800rpmturbo charged with intercooler, dieselpropulsion engine complete with theKMH4A, 8 degree down angle marinetransmission with 2.45:1 ratio. Theentire engine cover section can be veryeasily removed for service andmaintenance checks. Due to theshallow eight degree shaft drive angleof the KMH4A marine gear the Yanmar

engine

was mounted deep in the bilgeresulting in a low profile engine box, just 30cm off the deck and butteddirectly against the rear cabin bulkhead. Water strainer and fuel/waterseparator were within easy reach formaintenance along with the glandpacking through the hull.

With 125hp of Yanmar power, thevessel had a comfortable cruisespeed of about 15 to 16 knots with amaximum speed WOT of 20 knots. The prototype vessel delivered 7litres/hr fuel economy at the cruisespeed and much lower in trollingspeed.

With a deep aggressive bowflattening to an 11 degree dead riseat the stern, the boat should do welloffshore. But with the miserly fuelconsumption from the efficient 4cylinder, 1.995 Litre diesel and thelarge fuel tank the major selling pointof this boat is it’s long range andaffordable running costs. Add to theprotection offered by thewheelhouse, accommodation in thecabin, tough construction and thefishability of the cockpit you have gota very capable offshore fishing boat.

The vessel is also trailable and canbe either moored or can be

legally trailored with a totaltow weight of 2.5

tonnes.

Lights Power Anything (LPA) was established in mid 2004 to meet a supply shortfall oflighting towers and arrow boards within the commercial hire industry in Western Australia.LPA quickly realised its potential to establish a manufacturing base and in late 2004 commis-sioned its first arrow board. In February 2005 LPA completed its first, fully in-house de-signed and manufactured lighting tower prototype. LPA has since developed the Ultima6000, 8000 and 12000 series portable lighting towers and generator sets. The Ultima rangeis built to Australian Standards and will satisfy the most fastidious customer.

LPA Business Manager Mohamad Darwish said “The Ultima range was built to suit marketneeds and has been designed with our customer’s requirements in mind. It also offerssignificant advantages over its competitors, such as the unique dual purpose Lighting Towerand 20kva Genset capable of operating simultaneously and/or autonomously with singlephase or 3 phase outlets.”

LPA have selected the highly acclaimed Yanmar 3TNE78, 84 and 88 diesel engines in theircustom built industrial lighting towers. These engines fit the bill perfectly thanks to theircompact size, low level operational noise output, low maintenance requirements, durabilityand fuel efficiency. LPA completed its first production run of lighting towers installed with

Yanmar 3TNE78 engines in August 2005 tomeet advance orders. Due to a favourablemarket response to this technologycombination LPA intend to strengthen theirlinks with Power Equipment/Yanmar byincorporating their engine range into othercustomer built equipment such as generatorsets and diesel powered arrow boards. LPAprides itself on its strong commitment tocustomer satisfaction and progressivethinking – business principles also supportedby Power Equipment and Yanmar.

Revolutionising marine diesel performance across the board, the new Yanmar BY Series engines were developed in closeassociation with BMW to incorporate the latest common raildirect injection diesel technology for marine applications.

Renowned for their cutting edge diesel performance around theworld, BMW Motors has provided the engine base for the new

Yanmar BYSeries diesels. The BY Seriesreflects theengineering oftwo industryleaders indelivering arange of fourand six cylinderdiesel enginesthat are lighter, cleaner and farmore compactthan the modelsthey replace.

The two four-cylinder BY Series engines are rated at 110kW (150mhp) and132kW (180mhp) at 4,000 rpm from a 1.995cm3, intercooledand turbocharged diesel engine.

For applications in larger boats, operators can select fromeither of the six cylinder, 2.99 litre Yanmar BY Series models, one rated at 162kW (220mhp) and the second 191kW(260mhp).

Yanmar continues to push the power-to-weight boundaries withthe new BY Series engines boasting dry weights of just 250kgfor the four cylinder and 310kg for the six cylinder models.

The new Yanmar BY Series engines will be available with newlightweight Yanmar branded Kanzaki (a Yanmar company)marine transmissions or a choice ofMerCruiser Bravo diesel sterndrives.

Another fresh Yanmar release to ignite theshow is the electronically controlled 6LY3Series of marine diesel engines. Deliveringfrom 279kW (380mhp) to 353kW (480mhp) ofpower, the new Yanmar 6LY3 series isamongst the lightest and most powerfulengine series available achieving up to 12%greater power and 10% better fuel efficiencythan previous models.

The completely re-designed 6LY3-ETP engine is aturbocharged, direct-injected, intercooled, 24valve, in-line 6cylinder displacing 5813cm3 to produce 480mhp at 3300rpm.Renowned power to weight Yanmar performance is achievedfrom the lightweight 640kilo engine.

Yacht enthusiasts at the show are also accommodated withYanmar’s redeveloped 4JH4 latest generation marine diesel.Available for both sail and motor craft, the 4JH4 is based on acompletely redesigned cylinder block and new combustionsystem delivering true Yanmar power to weight performanceand quiet operation.

The naturally aspirated, water-cooled, direct injection 4cylinder diesel displaces 2.19 litres to produce 54mhp(39.6kW) - 25% more torque from only 10% increase indisplacement from the superseded 4JH3. A larger silencer andreduced 3000rpm engine speed contributes to an averagenoise reduction of five decibels plus the 4JH4 is cleaner andproduces less smoke to comply with BSO/SAV Stage 2regulations.

The Yanmar team will also display for the first time in Australiathe new 16 valve equipped 4JH4-TE, the turbocharged seriesvariant of the 4JH4 naturally aspirated series. With a 55.2kW(75mhp) rated output at only 3200rpm, this model also listsimpressive noise, emission and fuelconsumptionspecifications.

30 years, and still going strong, Goripropeller is celebrating its anniversaryand introducing a new patented 4 bladedfolding propeller with deliveriesscheduled to commence from the 3rd

quarter 2006.

Gori introduced the 2 blade foldingpropeller in 1975, which soon became(and remains so) the choice of propellerfor many sailors, and leading boatbuilders worldwide.

This was the first low drag-foldingpropeller with synchronised gearedblades, which could perform undermotor, both forward and reverse. And isone that continues to give great resultsfor Gori worldwide and our own dealernetwork, boat builders and boat ownersalike here in Australia.

In 1994 Gori propeller introduced thepatented 3 blade folding propeller, whichsince have received numerous awards, both for function and design, and arenow equipped on many famous yachtsworld wide, among others: “Mari Cha IV”143 ft. “Maximus” 100 ft. “CardyMinolta” 100 ft. “Bols” 93 ft. and “B&Q”75 ft. trimaran etc.

With yachts and enginesgetting bigger andbigger, (a trend veryevident locally for someyears now in the maxiracing yacht segment)the need for larger anddifferent propellers growtoo. To suit and meetthis demand Goripropeller designed thisnew 4 blade foldingpropeller, which will beavailable in sizes from22" thru 38" coveringengine sizes from 125hpthru to 500 hp, and stillthe lowest drag of all..The new release Gori 4-blade propeller opens upentirely new levels ofsailboat performance forlarger yachts, which, inthe past, had beenreserved for smallervessels. Now it ispossible for largesailboats and motorsailors to harness full-speed advantages undersail of a folding propellerwhilst reaping the thrustcapability of a 4-bladewhen motoring.

One of the mainadvantages of the Gorifolding propeller (3 or 4blade units) is the abilityto adjust the profile andpitch of the blades whilemotoring resulting in an

“overdrive” operation. By using theoverdrive feature when motor sailing, thepropeller can be optimised to achieve thesame speed at fewer revs giving greaterfuel efficiency, less vibration and lessengine noise.

Stringent quality control has been thehallmark of Gori Propeller success with thedevelopment of the new 4-blad propellercontinuing in vintage Gori fashion. Duringthe manufacturing process, each propelleris quality checked and given an individualserial number to ensure all productscomply with quality standards. In theevent that replacement service parts arerequired the boat owner simply has toquote the serieal number to enable promptand accurate parts supply.

Australia’s passionate sailing and motoryacht community is set to embrace thisnew 4 blade model from Gori Propeller.Delivering full-speed hull performance, quieter operation and greater fuelefficiency, the new Gori 4 blade-foldingpropeller is destined to become a popularchoice amongst the big boat market inAustralia.

We are pleased to announce that as of July last year Power Equipmentwas appointed the Australian Distributor for spare parts to support theYanmar Agricultural Equipment.

John Deere Ltd, the previously appointed Australian distributor, advisedYanmar sometime ago that they wished to relinquish responsibility forthe parts distribution and support of “Yanmar branded” agriculturalequipment. Official distribution of Yanmar tractors ceased in Australiasome 15 years ago and John Deere had recognised that they were nowsupporting more “grey market” equipment than the range of modelsthat they themselves had imported up until that time.

Power Equipment had also been fielding parts inquiries for the Yanmaragricultural range for some time and after discussions with Yanmar,Power Equipment offered to assist with parts supply and was appointedas the Yanmar Agricultural Parts Distributor in Australia.

This is an “interim” appointment until Yanmar should decide torecommence official distribution of Agricultural Equipment in Australia.Although like John Deere we will have difficulties with the Yanmar “grey

market” equipment we arepleased with thisappointment and happy tobe able to assist Yanmarowners where possiblewith their partsrequirements.

An erstwhile team of Power Equipment’s marine experts(?) plus one (Rod Blackburn of Blackburn Laser) recentlycompeted in the Menere’s BMW Corporate Challengeheld at Sandringham Yacht Club in Melbourne.

Raising funds for charity, the challenge sees manycorporates “buy” a boat for the day and compete in arace before beating a retreat to the clubrooms for re-freshments and dinner.

True to form, being a yacht race it rained (read poured)and there was not much wind, but a lot of hot air!!

To help liven up proceedings, Mike Candy (National PartsManager) decided a practice man overboard drill wouldbe good and Robert Drysdale (Operations Manager) wascurious as to why the skipper was using him to adjustthe trim of the boat. Mike Edwards (National PowerProducts Manager and part time Marketing Co-Ordinator)nearly did get thrown overboard for repeatedly tellingeverybody how much “fun” this was and Noel Heritage(Manager, Marine Group) found his uses as a tug fender.

All in all a great day for a good cause, and thanks to MattHannaford and the team of No Fearr for putting up withus.

On Thursday 24th November2005 an excited group of15 students, 4 teachersand 3 parents left TheKing’s School(Australia’s oldestindependent school)at 5.00 AM in orderto head down theHume Highway andmake their initialassault on theVictorian EnergyBreakthrough Competition. TheRACV, Victorian EducationDepartment, MaryboroughCouncil, and Holden are afew companies that sponsorthe competition. It aims topromote student awarenessof environmental issues bydesigning and building vehiclesthat race for 24 hours on aminimum amount of fuel.

Throughout the year studentshad been meeting regularlyon Wednesday afternoonsand Friday evenings inorder to construct twocars. Entry one was asingle seat vehicle powered bypeddle and a Honda 50 cc petrol motorthat was modified to run with a Haltech fuelinjection system. Entry two was a duel seater vehiclepowered by a Yanmar L Series diesel and an electric motor. Thesevehicles became known as Lethal Injection and Diesel Demonand the two teams became competitive and protective of theircars. In the preceding weeks leading up to the competitionteams had been travelling out to Eastern Creek where theWestern Sydney International Dragway allowed them to usetheir car park as their test track.

At practise all went smoothly and Diesel Demon was awarded 8th

place on the starting grid while Lethal Injection was awardedplace 20. Next morning it was time to fuel up with the two seatcar getting 4.5 litres of diesel and the single seat car getting 3litres of petrol. Race start was at 1.00 PM. Diesel Demon wascirculating well and maintaining a steady second place outright.

Diesel Demon powered on relentlessly with drivers spendingaround one and a half hours in the car. Tyre wear was aproblem and several had to be changed, also they had notforeseen the cold temperatures and boys had to put on severallayers of clothing in order to try and stay warm. Around 4.00AM and after 15 hours Diesel Demon’s diesel ran out and it wasdown to electrical power alone. Unfortunately the boys couldn’tkeep the power up to the batteries and gradually became slowerand slower. The car was bought in after 404 laps.

Final results where Diesel Demon – fourth in the Hybrid 2 classon a total of 69.5 points, winning a special award for innovation.

DINGO HITS 5000!Dingo Australia has just reached a majormilestone by manufacturing the 5000th

machine.

The machine, a model K9-4 was producedin all black to mark the occasion (see right). She was nicknamed Betty and wasunveiled to staff at their annual conferencein Dalby.

Dingo started manufacturing in Dalby in1992 with 4 staff and a small workshop.Today while still based in Dalby, there is acompany owned branch in most states ofAustralia with a staff of nearly 150. Thecompany has now grown to become oneof the largest manufactures of machineryin Australia.

Dingos’ National Sales Manager PeterMcLean said that he’s not surprised at thesuccess of Dingo. “When you have aproduct that is this good, a product thatcan save so much time and money peoplewill recognise the benefits and the saleswill follow” he said.

The company considers the ability to backup its product through its branches, the fact that it’s wholly Australianmade and owned and having a culture of looking at problems through thecustomers eyes have also contributed to its success.

Dingo Owner and Director Gary Briggs believes in a hands on approachas well. Even though he is responsible for a large multi-nationalorganisation he will visit or phone any of his customers regularly, big orsmall, to keep in touch with what’s happening.

“A lot of our innovations are because I have sat down and talked to ourcustomers. They say to me things like I want to be able to do this or that, and I then try to come up with a solution.” He said.

It isn’t just in Australia that Dingo is selling well, the rest of the world haveseen just what the Dingo can do as well. South Africa, Switzerland, andthe UK are all going very well for the company with sales growing at apace exceeding expectations.

The Dingo was the first mini digger and originally it was not much morethan a motorised wheel barrow. Today the Dingo is a highly efficient, hydraulic powerhouse with the ability to run a range of ground engagingattachments from the standard bucket through to welders, and jackhammers. In fact the Dingo can power more than an incredible 140different types of attachments.

Dingo Australia is truly an Australian success story, from an organisationwith humblebeginnings to a largemulti-nationalorganisation. It’s acompany that pridesits self on the fact itcan shoot for the topyet keep its feet firmlyon the ground.

DINGO NOW THE MOSTPOWERFUL!

Dingo Australia is proud to release its newrange of machines called the Pro series. The Pro now has the most power in itsclass and was recently released for salenationally. The Pro is the latest evolution inthe Dingo range and looks set to take thecompact equipment market by storm.

The Pro is powered by the NewGeneration Tier II, 27 HP Yanmar 3TNV76diesel engine and is designed to meet allfuture emission controls that are yet to beintroduced. This makes it one of the mostadvanced engines available.

The Pro is the most powerful and it is nowarguably the quietest. This is because theTier II engine produces its power atconsiderably lower revs. Lower revsmeans less noise. Dingo have modifiedthe hydraulics to take advantage of thequiet, slow power. So now there is amachine on the market that won’t annoythe neighbours.

The new Pro has been designed to keepup the Dingo tradition of quality and

reliability and still produce the grunt needed by the professional contractor. The Pro delivers a massive 3400 PSI of hydraulic power which is a figurethat puts the Dingo in a class all of its own. Dingo’s National SalesManager, Peter McLean, believes that the Pro sets a new benchmark in themini digger segment, “The Pro has more power than other machines butbetter yet it can deliver that power direct to the attachment and the wheelsat the same time. This machine takes compact equipment to a new level.”He said.

Other features of the Pro are that it now comes with tough alloy sides thatare resistant to cracks or splits and can handle the rugged life of aprofessional machine. It also has an overdrive option which gives the Prosuperior ground speed, and coupled with the Pro’s lifting ability, makes thismachine its own work force.

Gary Briggs, Dingo’s Managing Director, was quick to point out a few otherdetails about the Pro. “The Pro may well be an innovation in the powerstakes and be able to lift, carry, move, and out perform all other minidiggers on the market, and it is still the only one available anywhere in theworld with this amount of power that can slip through a standard doorway. It truly is the one and only choice when it comes to professionalmachinery.” He said.

The release of the Pro is proof positive that there are still some Australianmanufacturing companies who are happy to base themselves here andproduce quality equipment that can stand up to Australian conditions andbe exported to rest of the world.
