Grammar and Spelling

• Go home on Tuesday, to be returned on the following Monday.

(To be started after October half term)

• Parent guidance is stuck in to children’s books.

• Spellings are made up of the sounds we are learning in school and Year 1 common exception words.

• Daily spelling homework with the occasional grammar sheet

We will also be practising these words in school as part of our handwriting exercises.

• Spellings are tested through dictation every Monday in school.

Preparing songs for the Harvest

Marking

We encourage the children to evaluate their work e.g. With a happy/straight/sad face.

The children will be starting to edit, improve and correct their own work using green pencil and highlighter.

Teacher marking is usually in red pen.

Bear Diary

A bear goes home with one child every Friday.

Please could the child write a short diary of what the bear has seen and done with them over the weekend in the diary. They could include photos or drawings as well.

Please bring the diary and bear back on the Monday!

Show and Tell

Friday is for show and tell. If children are inspired by our

topic they are welcome to bring in a relevant object to support

this, e.g. a bird’s nest they have found during our Summer term

topic ‘Birds of a Feather’. Please help your child to rehearse

what they might say about their object of interest.

Just a thought……..

you may wish to donate a special book to add to our book corner that all their friends can enjoy.

• School Timings

- The whistle goes at 8.50am. Please could parents leave on the whistle.

- Please pick your children up promptly outside the MUGA at 3.20pm.

• IndependenceWe are encouraging the children to become more independent e.g. collecting all of their things at the end of the day to take home, changing their reading books themselves, getting changed and tidying up. Please could you reinforce this at home.

Please could you remind the children to hand in any letters and take out any named snacks that you put in their book bag. Please ensure that your child has a named school bag rather than a rucksack used by children further up the school.

Please bring in a piece of fruit to share
