A reminder about Key Stage 3

• Key Stage 2 = Years 3 to 6 at primary school

• Key Stage 3 = Years 7, 8 and 9 – the first three

years of secondary school

• Preparation for Key Stage 4/GCSE in Years 10

and 11(options next year!)

• Key Stage 4 is preparation for Key Stage 5 in

College VI!

What is different about being a Year 8 student?

• More settled and used to new

school

• Friendships still developing

• Possibly some group changes

• Some of the “gloss” may have worn

off - complacency

• New experiences and opportunities

• Build on successes and face

challenges from Year 7

How do we assess, monitor and report

students’ progress? ‘

• Regular informal class assessment

• Piece of work marked, with clear written

comments, after 6 hours of teaching, or after

every 3 weeks, whichever is the shorter

• Marking gives a description of the level of effort,

and 1-3 clear directions on how to improve work

in the future, taking into account the target RiLL

(30th September)
