Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT): is a series of related

tests designed to assess a range of competences commonly considered important for success in tertiary study

Versions of STAT: STAT Multiple Choice: 2 hour test half verbal and quantitative STAT Written English: 1 hour test requires written responses to two themes. E.g. USYD pharmacy & vet science requires applicants to sit STAT multiple choice

test.

Undergraduate Medicine & Health Sciences Admission Test (UMAT): developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER).

The test is used specifically to assist with the selection of students into the medicine, dentistry and health science degree programs at undergraduate level.

Test Date: 26 July 2017. Registrations Open Friday 2 June 2017. Information Booklet will be available only on-line late march at

ACER. Registration fee applies approx. $250 concessions apply to eligible

University of Sydney - Early of fer E12 Scheme

Gives you an early conditional offer before your HSC starts. Entry based on whether your ATAR meets the E12 cut-off ATAR. Entry requirements include; studying subjects that are related to

the selected course, having the support of your school principal and be experiencing FINANCIAL HARDSHIP. Apply on-line at www.sydney.edu.au/e12 applications open mid

August.

Criteria include achievement in relevant HSC subjects, l iving or attending school in a region defined by the university and applying for EAS consideration.

Bonus points schemes are dif ferent for each university.

Bonus points do not change a student’s ATAR – it changes the students selection rank. E.g. Selection rank = their ATAR + bonus points.

The U@UNSW program focuses on improving access to the University of New South Wales for LSES background.

Students selected for the program will : sit the Australian Council of Educational Research Unitest to

demonstrate their ability for tertiary study. include UNSW in their top three Universities Admissions Centre

(UAC) preferences. be given assistance in making course choices at UNSW and with

UAC and Educational Access Schemes (EAS) applications if required. participate in 2 x 5 day conferences at UNSW comprising of

academic skills workshops and master classes. Assessment tasks completed as part of the conference program provide students with additional entry points to UNSW, and demonstrate students’ motivation and ability to study at a tertiary level. If successful in gaining an offer to UNSW, students will be

supported in their transition to university. student achievement in HSC and all components of this program

will be taken into account when determining students’ eligibility for an offer to study at UNSW

Applicants must: be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident of Australia

(including a holder of a permanent humanitarian visa) AND be anticipating a median band ATAR in HSC between 70-80 including EAS/Access

bonus points AND be interested in attending UNSW post HSC AND have experienced long-term (normally a period longer than six months)

educational disadvantage so that year 12 studies (or equivalent) have been affected by circumstances beyond their control.

Circumstances could include: financial hardship/LSES English language difficulties refugee status severe family illness/death excessive family responsibilities/disruption disability or long-term illness/medical condition

Addit ional cr iter ia: student has not been unable to adequately prepare for HSC for reasons not

specified above.

All universities offer a variety of scholarships. Scholarships are very competitive so you will need to allow plenty of time to prepare your applications .

Closing dates are usually in September. The UAC guide gives some information about scholarships at each individual university section. More information is available on individual university websites.

Co-op scholarships – UTS/UNSW offers this highly competitive industry sponsored include industry work placements as part of a specified courses e.g. IT, commerce.

Government & university scholarships for university study.

Assist students with financial hardship and costs associated with higher education (usually on Centrelink benefits such e.g. Youth Allowance, Austudy and ABSTUDY).

Additional criteria may also be considered, but this is one scholarship where academic results may not be a major factor.

Applying for these scholarships are made online through www.uac.edu.au/equity/. UAC also distributes a booklet at the same time as university applications.

Is a loan avai lable to an el igible domestic student enrol led in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) in a university course.

A HECS-HELP loan wil l cover al l or par t of the student contribution amount. (The government pays for par t of the cost of the course, so CSP student contributions are lower than ful l fee or international student places.

Before enrol l ing into a course, i t is compulsory to request and sign a

‘Commonwealth support and HECS-HELP form and to supply a Tax Fi le Number (TFN).

Students repay their HECS-HELP loan through the tax system once their

income is above the minimum threshold for compulsory repayment.

FEE-HELP is a loan for el igible students who enrol into courses that are usually at a TAFE, private col leges or private university and not commonwealth supported.

and combines practical paid work with structured training to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

Apprenticeship min 4 years/ usually trade areas (plumber, hairdressing) Traineeship 2 years (business admin, retail)

How do to get one? Who employs apprentices and trainees? Group Training Organisations (GTO’s)/Registered Training Organisations. Employ apprentices and trainees and host them out to companies for the term

of the apprenticeship or traineeship. During this time the GTO is responsible for the recruitment process, payroll, entitlements etc.
