Why are pupils taking their options in Year 8?
The Government has made major changes to GCSEs:
• No controlled assessments-assessed through an exam (with the exception of practical subjects, for example, art, design technology)
• All exams to be taken at the end of the course – NO MODULAR EXAMS and no chance of resits
• An increase in the number of exams pupils sit at the end of Y11
• Changes to the grading system: Old grade A*,A,B,C etc… have been removed and numbers will now be used 9,8,7,6
Graded from 9 to 1 9 being the highest
Grade 9, 8 & 7 equivalent to A*/A
Grade 6 at the moment looking at being required for A Level
Grade 5 higher grade pass (high C or low B)

Pathways:
Pupils have been placed on a PATHWAY which will determine which subjects they will be allowed to choose from.
This is done using all the tracking information we have on your child.
It is done with your child in mind, so that they have the best possible chance of gaining the best qualifications they can.
