Term 2 Week 7 TUESDAY TELEGRAPH
. Year 9/10 Business
Year 9/10 Business is designed for students who wish to work in “Front Office” type rolls in the workforce. Students are exposed to and able to competently complete Business Documents including Purchase Orders, Tax Invoices and Business Activity Statements. The theory studied this semester has been Australia and the Asia Pacific Region. Students have researched the countries in the Asia Pacific Region, where they are, capital cities, government type and imports and exports. They have studied Australia’s imports and exports and the best trading partners for Australia. On the technology side of Year 9/10 Business students have been learning how to touch type, type Business Letters and send business and
personal emails.
Year 9/10 Business have been involved in in the
Australian Typing Tournament Typing Challenge
1st Quarter. The students were amazing and gained
3rd place in Queensland for the Fastest Typing.
Congratulations to our Year 9/10 Business
students who worked very hard to achieve this
excellent result.
Chappy Chatter with Chappy Jason
In the month of May we celebrate School Chaplaincy, with Chappy week occurring between
14th -21st May. This is generally a chance for me to highlight some of the things I do, and
celebrate the huge privilege it is for me and all School Chaplains to be invited into our
schools. I often engage the students in challenging Chappy to do things that I probably
can’t, or shouldn’t do, that they can. This is great fun and challenging, but it also prompts
me to think about the challenges in our lives and how we overcome them. In the past I have
shared about Paralympians and the challenges they have faced to go on and become world
champion athletes, including many people we may know personally. I have also talked
about the mental health challenges some people face and what we can do to overcome these
and to help others overcome. I just look at the famous actress Catherine Zeta-Jones who
has struggled with depression and Bipolar dis-
order and how she, with support of family,
friends and key people has overcome these
challenges. We can all do the same with the
help and support of those around us. If you or
your student needs someone to talk to about
your challenges, please feel free to come and
talk with Chappy Jason anytime.
Year 4 News
Mrs Ramsay
Well done to the following Students of the Week:
Week 5 – Katie, Nikki, Bailey
We are continuing to work on poems in English. Last week we investigated onomatopoeic poems. Onomatopoeia: A word
that sounds like the sound it is describing.
For our show/EKKA display, students are required to write an onomatopoeic poem on transport. Below are some examples
of what the students have written:
The Noisy Car
Written by Helene
Vroom, Vroom, Vroom
I was in the car
Bang, bang, bang
The engine was bouncing on the tar.
Hop, hop, hop
Went the kangaroo.
Toot, toot, toot
“Stop!” yelled Mum.
Crash, hiss, smash
It’s too late. The damage is done.
We are really enjoying our HASS topic on convicts. Students are researching a convict and will then write a historical
narrative based on the experiences their convict had.
Have a great week!

Trot, trot the horse takes me to work
and play.
Canter, canter to the dam we go.
The horse sways me to and fro.
Prep/Year 1 News
Ms Nettie
Last week, Last Wednesday, Prep and Year 1 went to visit the Life Education Van. All students had lots of fun and enjoyed
the interactive games and stories on Health and Safety presented by Mrs Jane Jackson and Harold the Giraffe.
Prep students receive praise and rewards for their behaviour and work efforts during each day and throughout the week.
Part of our rewards system is the class Marble Jar. Marbles are placed in the jar when the class work cooperatively
together. The class also brainstorm and vote on what the reward will be once the jar is full. Last week, the prep class
received an agreed on ice block.
Prep and Year 1 students will be involved in assessment tasks this week and next week related to our C2C Maths, and
English units.

Old Sail Boat
Written by Stafford
Flap Flap went the sail
Slish slosh the water starts to
churn
Clomp clomp went the sailors boots
Shhphph went the wind
Honk honk went the horn
Bump bump as old boats start
moving
People shouting, “Here we go!”
It certainly feels like the cooler weather has arrived and with this the need to throw a jumper, track pants
or both on to keep warm. In recent weeks we have highlighted to students and through this newsletter the
appropriate clothing for school and the options students have. Thank you to the families who support the
school and ensure your children are dressed in a manner that aligns to our expectations. If anyone is
requiring additional clothing pieces the uniform shop is open from 3:15pm-3:45pm Wednesdays or an
order form can be completed through the front office.
Amongst many activities last week we conducted our book fair which again was extremely well supported. Thank you to all our families who purchased reading materials from the fair. Through your support the
school will be able to further add to our ever growing reading resources. It was also brilliant to see many
of our students get into the spirit of the week and dress up on Thursday as a favourite book character or a
‘bookaneer’ (pirate). Well done to everyone involved.
Our sporting world continues to excel with all of our Bronco’s rugby league and netball teams performing
brilliantly, several students continuing to progress through various team trials and our cross country
athletes flew the Texas P-10 SS flag fantastically. It is always pleasing to see teams winning and individuals gaining selection in representative squads however for me the most gratifying aspect of our
recent sporting endeavours is the multiple positive reports regarding the conduct of our students. It really
brings the adage, ‘it doesn’t matter if you win or lose but how you play the game’ to life.
Have a great week
Justin.
PRINCIPAL NEWS
Reading with your children
Parents often wonder how they can help to develop the reading skills of children who are already fluent
readers. The best way is to continue to share books with your child, regularly listening to them read, sometimes reading to or with them, but also discussing books read in increasing depth. To become good
readers children need to develop skills in seven key areas and it can be useful to think about these when
reading with your child. Over the last two weeks we explored the first five areas and here are the last two
areas that will contribute to your child’s transition from ‘learning to read’ to ‘reading to learn’.
6. Purpose and Viewpoint: Who is the narrator of this story? What does the writer of this biography feel about his/her subject?
Children need to understand that writers write for a purpose and to be able to recognise that this will
have an impact on the way a text is written. Newspapers and advertisements are perfect examples of this and discussion of these can lead to lots of lively discussions.
7. Making Links: As adults, we are constantly making links between ideas and experiences. Good readers connect the book
they are reading with real life experiences; with other books read and stories heard; with films; and with the context in which they were written. A child reading ‘Macbeth and Son’, for example, will need to place
the story within the context that it was written to fully understand it. They might also link it with other
stories or plays read.
Useful questions to ask your child
