Practical Suggestions for Parents of Year 10 Students

CELEBRATING DIVERSITY

• Balance what we, as parents, see as suitable goals and finding the path that bestfits your child.

• Listen to your children. Listen to what they are telling you about what motivatesthem by their excitement and enthusiasm. Take note of what de-motivates themthrough their lack of enthusiasm.

• Observe your children. What are their strengths? Do they have an opportunity touse these strengths every day? Help them to become aware of their key strengths.

• Encourage a growth mindset through experimentation and learning from errorsand mistakes. View errors as an opportunity to learn and to develop perseverance, rather than catastrophising the situation.

• Encourage your children to be mindful and to develop empathy for others.

• Help your children to build a network of supportive adults, teachers, coaches, family members and friends.

Pastoral CareOVERACHING THEME FOR 2020 – COMPASS

CELEBRATING DIVERSITY

We will support your child in navigating their way through the many opportunitiesthat are available to them and help them discover what they are passionate about. It is in Year Ten that your child will need to make important decisions about whatsubjects they want (or are able) to study in Year Eleven and Twelve, along with thepathway that they are considering post-secondary schooling. We will continue toassist them navigate their voyage through the risk taking of adolescence and guidethem through each new twist and turn on their journey in developing respectfulrelationships.

Their passion is their internal compass that will guide them from where they are today and lead them towards where they want to go.
