PREGUNTAS WITH “WH”

We use question words to ask certain types of questions (question

word questions). We often refer to them as WH words because they

include the letters WH (for example WH, How).

Example:

Who just came in?

Where are my glasses?

Why did he do that?

In English, the questions of whether or not to use the verbs be, have, do, or a modal verb. These questions always start with one of these verbs and can answer

just yes (yes) or not, that is with the repeated question as a statement.

Note: You can not ask a question that no one auxiliary verbs.

BEUse the verb be to ask about the identity, description or location

of something or someone, or on certain activities or situations in the present or the past.

Identity / DescriptionBe used with a noun or adjective to inquire about the identity or description of a person, place or thing.

Am I your best friend? Yes (you are).

Is this interesting? No (it is not).

location

Be, plus a prepositional phrase is used to ask about the location of the past and present of a person or thing.

Am I near your house?

Is he in Colombia?

No (you aren't).

Yes (he is).

Activities and situations in this

Para preguntar sobre actividades o situaciones que están pasando ahora o que van a pasar muy pronto, usa el progresivo presente: el presente de be + participio presente (verbo+ing).

Am I going with you and Tom?

Is England adopting the euro?

Yes (you are).

No (it isn't).

Activities and Situations in the past

Para preguntar sobre una actividad o situación que ocurió en el pasado y duró por un tiempo indeterminado, usa el progresivo pasado: el pasado de be + participio presente.

Was it raining?

Was Anna cooking?

Yes (it was).

No (she wasn't).

To inquire about something that happened to a person or thing, use the passive voice: the past of be + past participle (verb + ed or)

Was he given a reward?

Was I chosen?

Yes (he was).

No (you were not).

Modals VERBS

Use modal verbs to learn more about possibilities and uncertainties.

Modal verbs are always followed by a verb in the infinitive without to.

Can we stay?

Should they stop?

No (they shouldn't).

Yes (we can stay).

Remember: When you do form a question or a modal verb, the main verb is in the infinitive without to.
