Countryside Breaks was born from the vision of making memories; whether that be with family, friends, or simply alone, our cottages provide the perfect backdrop to unwind, relax and enjoy.

Founder Paul Beresford is no stranger to property. As the CEO of a successful family-run property group, he has been an integral part of the business for many years. Our mission is simple: we want our guests to feel that they are spending time at ‘a home away from home’.

Take in the beauty of this terrace of thatched cottages before you step through the traditional front door into the porch where you are invited to leave your walking boots behind. The traditional wooden latch door opens into the lounge/diner a room simply brimming with original features, with traditionally low beamed ceilings, deep window sills and exposed stone inglenook fireplace. The cottage is further enhanced with a variety of colours and soft furnishings.

Curl up on the sofa in front of the wood burning stove with friends, or for a simple supper and good wine, a dining table sits to the rear of the room and is set for four. The contemporary and well-equipped kitchen is accessed off the dining area.

Upstairs you will find two double bedrooms both beautifully finished with 300 count Egyptian cotton sheets, one with garden views with window seat where you can relax with a good book.

There is also a shower room with walk in shower and WC finished with Noble Isle products for guests. Step outside and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening sun, the gardens sit to the rear of the cottage with access onto the open fields. The seating area is secluded, a perfect place for unwinding.

A bit about Swalcliffe

Swalciffe is a picturesque village in Oxfordshire with a population of under 300. At the helm is a small family run pub complete with open fire. A haven for walkers with a wealth of waymarked footpaths, the village is well placed to explore the Cotswolds villages and larger town and cities. You will be spoilt for choice with many National Trust homes and attractions to include Chastleon House and Hidecote Gardens.

Fascinating historical sites in close reach include an Iron Age hill fort on Madmarston Hill, the site of a Roman villa at Swalcliffe Lea and Swalcliffe tithe barn.

Set within a traditional Oxfordshire village, a beautifully finished thatched cottage in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Yew Tree Cottage is an idyllic country cottage dating from approximately 1850 which is a perfect getaway with ample room to accommodate family and friends. The cottage is set back behind mature trees and shrubs overlooking the village green and duck pond. Explore the beautiful countryside and quintessential towns and villages of the Cotswolds followed by an evening in front of a roaring fire. The cosy living room with exposed stone walls is the perfect place to relax after a day exploring. Guests are welcome to bring their dog along.

Less than 2 miles from Yew Tree Cottage lies the famous village Broadway with its pretty high street lined with pubs, independent gift and antique shops and eateries. Visit Broadway’s famous tower, a unique Capability Brown Folly Tower, to experience English Heritage in an inspiring location - as many as 16 counties can be seen from its location.

A bit about Willersey

A short stroll from Yew Tree Cottage takes you to one of two local Cotswolds pubs serving home-cooked food and cask ales. The village store and café sell local produce and freshly made bread, pies and pastries.

You can explore the countryside by foot on the many path and bridleways or by bike, you can even hire electric bikes and helmets from the local village store. Regular events are also held in the village including a food festival, art festival, horticulture and craft show, live summer concerts on the green and music nights in the local pub.

There is plenty to do and visit in the area including the Cotswolds Distillery, Cotswolds Wildlife Park, a falconry centre, a motoring museum and Broadway Museum and Art Gallery.

Shakespeare’s birthplaceApproximately 30 minutes drive from the cottages is the house in which Shakesphere was born and grew up. Located in Henley Street, Stratford Upon Avon, it has attracted millions of visitors over the years and is a fascinating place to learn more about this literary legend. There is also a gift shop and cafe.

The Cotswolds DistilleryThe first and only full-scale working craft distillery located within the ‘Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. Single malt whisky, gin and other Outstanding Natural Spirits are made artisinally on-site. Tours and tastings are available.

Looking for more?

Cotswold towns and villages of Chipping Camden, Stow-on-the-Wold, Moreton-in-Marsh and Bourton-on-the-Water are all within driving distance of the cottages. Stratford-upon-Avon with the Royal Shakespeare Company Theatre, Cheltenham with its famous annual horse racing festival, Tewkesbury and Evesham are all well worth a visit.

Blenheim Palace

Home to the 12th Duke of Marlborough and his family and the birth place of Sir Winston Churchill, Blenheim Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage site boasting a long and diverse history. Explore the gilded State Rooms and priceless collections set against striking stonework, and experience the beauty and magnificence of this Grade I Listed building. It is home to the International Blenheim Palace Horse Trials which take place in September.

The Gloucester Warwickshire Steam Railway Just under a mile from the centre of Broadway you will find the heritage steam railway which runs between Cheltenham Racecourse and Broadway, passing through some of the most spectacular scenery in the Cotswolds. The line commands wonderful views of the nearby sleepy hamlets and villages, with outstanding outlooks across to the Malvern Hills and beyond.

The official home of jump racing is located just a 30 minute drive from the cottage, alternatively you can experience a more scenic journey by taking the steam train from nearby Broadway.

The racecourse is one of the most famous in the UK, with the highlight of the season being ‘The Festival’ in March with other notable but more relaxed meetings taking place throughout the year.

Bicester Village is one of the UK’s best luxury outlets with over 130 stores offering International and British boutique designer brands discounted by up to 60%. Open seven days a week and with an array of restaurants and cafes to choose from, experience a great day of retail therapy.
