Forward

Who am I and why did I write this report?

Well I guess you’re probably not that interested in who I am, but more interested in how to get a bunch of gold for your low level characters, so feel free to skip over this bit, I know I would.

If for some strange reason you want to know (why? ) then read on..

I make a living from “building” websites (aka Internet Marketing, yeah, I’m a computer nerd) and I spend as much of my spare time as I can, which is never as much as I’d like, playing World of Warcraft with my friends and my kids.

I’ve been playing for over 2 years now, but have only got “Good” at it recently, after I decided I was taking too long to level up and never had enough gold.

I made it my mission to find people who always had lost of gold or were always getting their characters up levels quicker than me and prize their secrets out of them.

This report is just a taste of some of the stuff that I’ve learnt, but most importantly it’s the quickest and easiest way I have found of giving your new characters on a new server a quick start, by making sure they’ve always got enough gold to be “Twinked” with the latest kit!

So let’s get on with it…

Cheers,MattgAka “Gitt”

How to get your first Gold in Warcraft!

This report isn’t going to cover every possible way of getting your first gold in WoW, it’s just going to show you how I do it, as I know that works.

It’s based on playing a Dwarf or Gnome in Alliance Territory, but once you’ve read it you should be able to apply the same theory to other races and their home cities, it’ll just take a bit longer to work out which items are best to sell and where to find them.

Here’s a screenshot of my level 12 Dwarf with 68 gold after just 3 days doing this and it only takes about 10-15 minutes a day…

Page 6: Your First WarCraft Gold · as much as I’d like, playing World of Warcraft with my friends and my kids. I’ve been playing for over 2 years now, but have only got “Good” at

Introduction

To use this method it doesn’t really matter what class you play, but the method is based on heading in to Ironforge as soon as you’re ready, so you need to start as a Gnome or Dwarf to get there quick and easy.

Don’t worry about being stuck with these two races though as you will be able to make enough money to send to any other characters you start.

I would recommend getting mining and skinning as your professions as both of these can quickly supply the start up cash you need, which is basically around 7-10 silver.

So what is this “secret” method?

Well it’s not really a secret, it’s just selling stuff on the Auction House, the trick is to know where to quickly get hold of the best stuff to sell for big profits and that’s what I’m going to show you.

The bulk of this guide is basically a walk through of where to go and what to buy to make the most profit as quickly as possible and on an ongoing basis.

To that end I’ve also included a table with the items that I find sell for the best prices regularly and can easily be picked up in Ironforge itself…

I’ve included a spreadsheet with the items listed as well, so that you can keep track of what you find makes the most profit for you.

Make Life Easy With Some Extra Help

This isn’t essential, but as we’re going to be using the Auction House (AH) a lot it’s worth downloading the “auctioneer” addon.

It’s free, it’s easy to install and, to the best of my knowledge, it’s not against Blizzards terms, so it won’t get your account closed.

It also makes it a lot quicker and easier to put stuff on auction.

You can grab a copy here: -

http://auctioneeraddon.com

There’s also a full installation guide here: -

http://norganna.org/wiki/Auctioneer/Installing

Auctioneer speeds up a whole bunch of stuff and gives us some extra ways of making money in AH, such as scanning to find items that are under priced so you can snap them up and put them back on for a profit, but for the moment we’re only interested the way in which it can speed up the process of putting our stuff up for auction.

N.B. When you first install Auctioneer it’s worth running a “Scan” from the browse screen. This will take about 10 minutes and it scans all the items currently on AH to start building a database of the average prices for items.

It’s worth re-running the “Scan” once every few days for a week or so as this will build up a good amount of data for it to tell you what the average prices on items is, giving you a good idea of what you can sell stuff for.

Page 8: Your First WarCraft Gold · as much as I’d like, playing World of Warcraft with my friends and my kids. I’ve been playing for over 2 years now, but have only got “Good” at

- 8 -Copyright © 2007 WarcraftDomination.com

The screen shot below shows an example of the extra data (in the lower box) that Auctioneer will then give you whenever you click on an item:

Page 9: Your First WarCraft Gold · as much as I’d like, playing World of Warcraft with my friends and my kids. I’ve been playing for over 2 years now, but have only got “Good” at

Using Auctioneer

To use Auctioneer to speed up working with the AH you simply open up the auction screen by clicking on an auctioneer in the AH and make sure you’re on the “Browse” tab.

Then “shift+left click” on an item in your backpack and click on “Search” to find out whether the item is already up for auction, how many and what the price is.

Then you can go to the “Post Auctions” Tab to put your item up for auction.

Here’s a screenshot of Auctioneer in action:

Having done a scan on the item you want to auction, auctioneer has automatically priced it at 5% lower than the competition, saving a lot of time, all you need to do is click on “Post Auction” and move on the next item. Nice and easy!

Now all we need is the items to put on auction…

Before You Get to Ironforge

Before you head straight off to Ironforge you need to build up some starting/”seed” capital. You don’t need a fortune, you can start with as little as 4 or 5 silver, but I’d recommend waiting until you’ve got at least twice that, as well as some resources to sell, such as copper ore and some leather.

Copper Ore sells the best in my experience, but leather armor kits can also sell fairly quickly, which is what we want at this point.

If you have 25+ silver you might want to pick up a Rabbit Crate from Amberstill Ranch for 20s (silver) as these always tend to sell well and should give you a good headstart.

So start your character and do all the standard quests, getting Mining and Skinning along the way. Level your character up to around level 10-11 at which you should have more than enough starting cash to head in to Ironforge and start trading to make some real cash!

Once you arrive in Ironforge take a few minutes to familiarize yourself with the map, if you’re not already at home in Ironforge that is. The places you need to get to know straight away are the Auction House and the Bank, this report has screen shots of where the other shops you will need are to help you find them quickly.

First thing to do is get rid of any items you don’t need to be carrying around, like food and drink, as you will need the space in your backpack for the items you’re going to be buying. You can either sell your cheap stuff in one of the shops either side of the bank, or catch the bread lady who wanders around in a loop in front of the Auction House and the Bank.

If you’re unsure whether something might be worth more on auction than from a vendor then go to AH and check, that’s where you need to head next anyway so that you can put your copper ore and leather up for auction asap.

Copper ore is great as it not only tends to sell quickly, if priced competitively, but also costs nothing to put up for auction.

The Items For Maximum Profits

Once you’ve got your basic resources up for auction it’s time to check how much money you have left and check the items table to see what you can afford and check that against what’s already on auction.

If you can spot items on the list that you can afford and aren’t already on auction those are the best one’s to start with, as you can push the price up a bit, although don’t go too high to start with as you want your first batch of items to sell as quickly as possible to fund your next batch.

I’ve split the following tables in to two parts so that they will easily fit on the page, but don’t forget they are also in the spreadsheet that you should also have received with this report.

The first table lists the items in order of cost and then gives details such as the deposit cost to put that item on auction, the average sale price I have found the items sell for, and then the cut that the auction house take on your profit when you sell and item and the profit left for you.

N.B. The prices that you can realistically sell these items for will vary from server to server, as well as from day to day. Obviously you will get the best price when no one else has put the item up for auction.

So here are the items that I have found sell best…

If you take a quick look through the list you will see that it’s quite possible to make some pretty hefty profits on a lot of these items.

This is why it’s so easy to quickly build up a stockpile of gold for yourself by just spending 10-15 minutes each day checking your auctions, gathering some new stock and putting anything that hasn’t sold back up for sale.

I tend to average 20-35Gold each day using just these items. Of course there’s even more profit potential available once your characters are higher level and getting out and about in other areas (see the list of useful sites at the end of this report to see where you can get even more items for higher profits).

Buying & Selling Advice

Before you head off to grab the items you want there are a few general notes and tips that are worth covering. Most of this may well seem like common sense, but it’s worth remembering…

1. Some of these items are of “limited supply”. That means that a vendor will not always have one available to buy, once the item has been bought by someone it won’t re-appear for a fixed amount of time.

The time before the item “re-spawns” varies for each item, some items, like the Elixir of Superior Defense, only re-spawn once or twice a day, others are a bit quicker.

This means that you may not always be able to pick up the best selling items, but over time you should be able to build up a little stockpile of them to horde in your bank for when you need them.

2. When you first start it may be tempting to go straight for the most profitable item you can afford, but I would recommend trying to pick up 2 or 3 lower price items to give you a wider variety and a higher probability of selling one or more quickly, so that you can then re-invest those profits in more items.

I have found the Aquadynamic Fish Attractors and Enchant 2H Weapon – Lesser Intellect as the best items to start with.

Although the Gnomish Universal Remote, the Free Action Potion, or the Heavy Leather Ball all provide serious profit potential, if you’ve got the cash and they are available…

Page 15: Your First WarCraft Gold · as much as I’d like, playing World of Warcraft with my friends and my kids. I’ve been playing for over 2 years now, but have only got “Good” at

- 15 -Copyright © 2007 WarcraftDomination.com

3. Not every item will sell every time you put it on auction, so don’t forget that it costs money to put them on auction and make sure you’ve got enough spare cash to put things back on as quickly as possible.

You don’t want to end up with an item sat in your backpack because you can’t afford to put it on auction, or worse yet, having to sell something at a loss to a vendor just so you can put more things on auction because you don’t have enough money for the deposit.

4. Always check to see what is already on auction and if you have something that isn’t listed at all put that on first as it is more likely to sell and can get a higher price.

5. Don’t put more than one of the same item up for auction, as the fewer of them there are the more valuable/difficult to get hold of they will appear to be to potential buyers.

6. Don’t be afraid to undercut other people’s auctions, they will do the same to you, just make sure you make a profit on an item.

If the price for something is so low that you won’t make a profit (or very little) it may be better to wait until the under priced item has sold and you can get a good profit again. Some people put items on at mad prices.

7. Keep track of the prices that things sell for. If you find that you are the only one putting an item up for auction and it always sells, then try pushing the price up a little each time. I quite often manage to sell the Tuxedo Patterns at over 10G each!

8. If an item doesn’t sell, try putting it on again at a lower price.

9. For quick sales the best time tends to be late afternoon and early evening when most people are online and Ironforge is filled with players.

Page 16: Your First WarCraft Gold · as much as I’d like, playing World of Warcraft with my friends and my kids. I’ve been playing for over 2 years now, but have only got “Good” at

- 16 -Copyright © 2007 WarcraftDomination.com

10.You will need to invest in some extra bags within a few days to carry the extra items you are buying, but you can save money at the start by simply storing any extra/spare items in your bank.

11. Always have a “Buy Now” price as most people will not want to bid and wait to see if they win, people prefer to just pay and get the item straight away.

12.Use the standard “just under” pricing that everyone is used to, in other words don’t price something at 4G, price it at 3G 97S. There is a reason shops use this pricing technique, it works…

Within a day or two you should have sold quite a few items and be able to afford to buy and sell more of the higher value items, at which point your wealth will start to snowball!

Once you get the ball rolling you will quickly find your cash growing and the number of items you have in your “Inventory” growing to cover all the available items in Ironforge, and it just takes a few minutes each day.

The next part of this report will show you where, with some screen shots, to find these items, as well as a couple of the easier to find “Pets”, so you can zoom of and grab them to get started…
