Don’t count the days, make the days count.”
Welcome to Week 4.
SCHOOL DISCO Thank to everyone for the wonderful support of the
Putney PS P&C disco – a great success.
Thank you to the students for the exemplary behaviour
and great sense of fun.
Thank you to all the staff and parents who volunteered to
assist on the night – your assistance is greatly appreciated.
A special thank you to the P&C commi ee for pu ng
together such an enjoyable event.
BUS COSTS There has been an increase in the cost of bus hire and this
has increased the price of transpor ng students to events
almost prohibi ve, due to the cost. The events impacted
the most are PSSA sport, as well as some performing arts
events.
We have reviewed the school excursion policy and have
made changes allowing three students to a seat for any
excursion within the City of Ryde Council boundary. All
excursions outside this boundary with remain as two
students to a seat.
This change will allow us to cater for more students on a
bus, as well as share buses with other schools for short
distance travel.
Unfortunately, due to PSSA draw, venues and all other
schools already having organised their bus travel
arrangements, the changes to our policy will have no
impact to our PSSA travel costs for the current season’s
compe on. We will see a reduc on in costs for future
short distance travel.
VACATION CARE Thank you to the P&C for exploring the possibility of
offering VACATION CARE within the school grounds. Since
the response from the community has been extremely
posi ve, the school is currently seeking advice from the
Department of Educa on’s Assets Management unit
regarding the regula ons surrounding the establishment
of an onsite VACATION CARE. I will keep you informed of
any process. Thank you for all your pa ence as we
con nue our inves ga ons.

BLACK & WHITE NEWS
Gardening Club Mr Be eridge (3B) has set up a gardening club at PPS. There is
already considerable involvement from a number of children,
with more reques ng to par cipate on a regular basis.
While s ll in it's infancy, the school's vision for this gardening
project is to grow produce that can the be purchased by the
canteen or parents, and thus fund the next round of seedlings
and so on.
We have received some dona ons from Bunnings in Rydalmere,
but we have also received requests from parents wan ng to
personally contribute.
To that end, Mr Be eridge has put together the document
below which details what they are doing, and what items are
required. If you would like to donate one of the items on this list,
can you please email Mr B samuel.be [email protected]
iden fying which item you would like to donate.
We really appreciate that parents want to get involved in this
project in a prac cal way and thank everybody for their interest.
The P&C have also commi ed to providing some funds to assist
with the growth of this wonderful new ini a ve.

Communica ng
Students will communicate their efforts with the school and
greater public through newsle er drops and blog posts.
What do we need to do?
An order of events.
We are asking for assistance with dona ons of the following:
Small greenhouse ‐ $44.90 h ps://www.bunnings.com.au/naturallife‐140‐x‐70‐x‐200cm‐small‐walk‐in‐greenhouse_p3321446
A small greenhouse will enable the garden club and the school to
house plants and seedlings that are going through the
germina on process. This will also allow for different classes (if
they wish to use it) to house garden related projects in an orderly
manner. Different shelves could be dedicated to different stage/
classes. The greenhouse also expands our ability to study plants
that require different climates to survive and thrive.

BLACK & WHITE NEWS 6 x Children’s garden rake ‐ $4.95 each = $29.70 h ps://www.bunnings.com.au/saxon‐580mm‐lh‐kids‐garden‐leaf‐rake_p3360658
Rakes increase the amount of hands on students can have in the
garden spaces. It also allows the garden club to maintain the
grounds by keeping garden beds and other areas dy.
Leaf li er storage cage ‐ $34.95 h ps://www.bunnings.com.au/reln‐garden‐garden‐waste‐storage‐cage_p3160046
A leaf li er storage cage gives us an area to collect natural mulch
and garden aggregate. This will be used to protect soil and
op mise the health and speed of the compos ng process.
5 x In ground worm farm ‐ $29.90 = $149.50 h ps://www.bunnings.com.au/reln‐garden‐inground‐worm‐farm_p3160041
Installing in‐ground worm farms around the school increases
access to responsible and sustainable food waste points. Plan ng
them close to different classrooms creates ease and close
proximity learning opportuni es.
Compost bin ‐ $54.90 h ps://www.bunnings.com.au/reln‐garden‐220l‐gedye‐compost‐bin_p3160029
Adding another compost bin to the garden club area will ensure
that students in the garden club can see a direct link between
sustainable prac ce and soil health in the central garden area.
8 x Sealed bucket ‐ $6.80 = $54.40 h ps://www.bunnings.com.au/uni‐pro‐4‐6l‐painters‐bucket‐with‐lid_p1670138
The small sealed buckets will be sent home on rota on for
different members of the garden club. They will be used to
collect food scrap that can be brought back into school to
increase compost stores. This also connects the idea of
sustainable prac ce between home and the community.
2 x 3 ered worm farms ‐ $84.90 = $169.80 h ps://www.bunnings.com.au/reln‐garden‐3‐ er‐worm‐cafe‐worm‐farm_p3160013
Using free standing worm farms will add addi onal learning
opportuni es, as well as a place where Putney can manufacture
its own organic garden fer lizer. This could also be a selling point
for future fundraising.
