Refund PolicyRefunds will only be given up to the first day of the program. After that, no refunds will be given unless the program is canceled/postponed or if the enrollee is unable to participate because of unforeseen medical reasons.

CancellationsPrograms that are canceled or postponed due to weather conditions, or other unforeseen circumstances beyond our control will be announced as soon as possible. Please call 712-707-4888, or visit OrangeCityIowa.com. A legal

guardian is asked to pick up their children from the program site as quickly as possible if adverse weather conditions occur. Announcements will attempt to be made at least one hour prior to the scheduled start time for an activity.

Fee Payment & Returned ChecksAll fees must be paid at the time of registration. Fees may be paid in cash or check—credit card for online registrations. Checks should be made payable to City of Orange City. There is a $25 fee for any returned check. If a check is returned, both the amount of the check and the returned check charge must be covered in cash.

Registrations will be processed by random selection daily. Unless we inform you otherwise, you are registered for your first choice. Checks are payable to: City of Orange City. All fees must be paid in full. Registrations with incorrect fees will be notified by telephone and held from processing until the correct fee is paid. Payments can be made online with a credit card.

Phone registrations are not accepted for any programs. All programs are filled on a first come/first serve basis, so please register early. Late registrations may be accepted after a class or activity has started if space is available. Late registrations will have a $10 fee applied after May 31.

Notice: There will not be programming or swimming lessons on the 4th of July.

All registrations must be made through the Parks and Recreation office. Forms are available at the Parks and Recreation office, or downloaded online. Please bring or mail in your forms and payment from May 1–29!

Pool PassesPurchase a season or budget pass at the Orange City Municipal Swimming Pool the first week of pool season starting at 12:30 pm. Pass holders will have a picture taken and a key fob assigned to them. Fobs will be reused each year.

Group RatesGroup must consist of 15 or more people $2.50 per youth, $3.50 per adult.

Pool ClosingsPool supervisors will close the pool in case of the following: • lightning or threatening weather • water or air temp being too low (ex. 65 degree day) • bodily fluids spilled into the pool

In case of a pool closing for any reason, there will be a message left on the swimming pool phone 712-707-2500

Pool RulesPool rules will be observed by everyone in order to maintain a safe swimming environment. These rules can be found in each restroom and posted on the guardhouse walls. Please make sure you and your child are aware of these rules before entering the pool area.

If your child is not tall enough to be on the slide or on the diving boards, they will be allowed to complete a swim test and receive a wristband to wear at the pool for the summer. Ask a manager, supervisor, or lifeguard for details.

Special Pool EventsOrange City Municipal Aquatic Facility will be sponsoring special days and events this summer. Dates, times, and details are listed below and will be posted at the pool throughout the summer.

Family NightEvery Monday and Friday night, after 6:00pm, all summer long, parents swim free when they come with the kids!

Floatie FridaysEvery Friday night, all summer long, floating beach toys will be allowed after 6:00pm! Please limit raft size to under 4‘X6‘. Toys will be subject to pool management‘s discretion.

Dollar DayThe first and last Saturday of the season, May 3 and August 30, anyone can get into the pool for $1.

Christmas in JulyCome to the pool on July 25 for a day of fun food and prizes! Register to win! Music, games and food!! Don‘t miss out on this fun day!

Dog SwimPool finale! Bring your dog for a dip on a day to be announced after the pool is closed for the season. Watch the website and Advisor for details.

Aqua ZumbaSplash your way into shape with a low impact aquatic exercise. Aqua Zumba blends cardio conditioning and body toning for an exilarating workout. Starts June 3.

Water AerobicsWater aerobics is the fat-burning, metabolism-raising, exercise program that tones and strengthens the entire body.

Must be at least 15 to attend class. • Work at your own pace. • Easy on the joints. • Water resistance tones muscles and builds bones. • A good cardiovascular workout for fat burning, lowering blood pressure, and lowering cholesterol. • Pre-registration will be needed to develop class schedules.

• Classes need a minimum of three participants. • Pool membership not needed to participate. • Pool temperature 78–82°

The Orange City Municipal Aquatic Facility will offer group lessons. These lessons are taught by certified Water Safety Instructors following the current American Red Cross program. Lesson sign-ups can occur at the pool once open for the season with no late fees. Fees must be paid at time of registration. Fees cannot be waived.

Session Dates & TimesLevels 1-5 are offered in all three session, Monday-Thursday for two weeks. Parents-child aquatics are offered in session 2 and 3, Monday-Thursday for one week. (Fridays will be a make-up day if needed) Regular attendance is required. Advanced levels—Level VI, Basic Water Rescue, and Guard Start—ONLY offered during session 2 and 3 for 1 or 2 weeks depending on class size.

Advancing LevelsA level must be successfully completed before registering for the ensuing level.

AttendanceClass attendance is important. If parents feel it is necessary for a child not to go in the water on a particular day, they should send a note for the instructor along with the child. It is important for the child to attend class even if they will not be entering the water.

Minimum Number of StudentsAt least five students must be registered for a class one week prior to start date. In the case a class does not have enough participation, it will be cancelled and parents notified.

Parent/Child Aquatics $1530 min/day—A parent or other care-giving adult is required to accompany each child in the water and participate in the classes. Designed for children 18 months to 4 years.

Level 1 $2045 min/day—Introduction to water skills. Orient to aquatic environment and create a sound foundation for aquatic and safety skills. Recommended ages 4–6

Level II $2045 min/day—Fundamental aquatic skills. Teaches fundamental aquatic locomotion and safety skills. Recommended ages 4–7

Level III $2045 min/day—Stroke development. Increase swimming competency and practice safety and non-swimming rescue skills. Recommended ages 6–9

Level IV $2045 min/day—Stroke improvement. Develops confidence in the strokes learned and to improve other aquatic skills. Recommended ages 7–10

Level V $2045 min/day—Stroke refinement. Stroke refinement plus introduction of butterfly, surface dives and spring board diving. Recommended ages 8–12

Level VI $20Swimming and skill proficiency. Develop maximum efficiency and endurance for strokes and other aquatic activities. Recommended ages 10–13

Basic Water Rescue $20Skills and information will be taught to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. This course will also prepare individuals for aquatic emergencies by teaching them how to protect themselves while assisting others. Students will be certified as a shallow water guard. Recommended ages 12+

GuardStart $20A stepping stone between Basic Water Rescue and Lifeguard Training. This program will introduce students to the skills needed for entry to the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Course. Class will focus on communication and decision making skills as well as the basic responsibilities of a lifeguard. Recommended ages 12-14

The GuardStart program involves a significant amount of physical activity. Before entering the program, participants must demonstrate these skills:

• Swim the front crawl 25 yards continuously while breathing to the front or side.

• Tread water for 1 minute using arms and legs.

• Submerge and swim a distance of 10 feet under water.

Lifeguard TrainingParticipants must have completed all previous levels of the Learn To Swim Program, be at least 15 years old and are interested in potential job opportunities in water safety and aquatics. Contact the Siouxland Area Chapter of the Red Cross for schedules, information, locations and registration 800-340-408. Attendance is required for all scheduled dates.

Water Safety Instructor TrainingParticipants must be at least 15 years old and be interested in potential job opportunities in water safety and aquatics. Contact Rachel Franklin at [email protected] for schedules, information, locations and registration 800-340-4081.

Private LessonsPrivate lessons are available by arrangement with a certified Water Safety Instructor. These lessons are typically held for five days, 25 minutes each. Available times are Monday–Friday at 11:45am–1:00pm. $12/lesson or $60/week

Outdoor Youth Connection $15Adventurers will do outdoor activities and games. Fishing, canoeing, geo-caching, kite flying, and other activities.

TaekwondoLearn self-defense, develop self-confidence, discipline, agility, flexibility, and physical fitness. Chief Instructor is Harlan Hubers—5th degree black belt.

Roller Hockey $15In-line skaters will learn the basic skills of roller hockey. Each participant must bring their own equipment: roller blades, hockey stick, kneepads, and helmet. Roller hockey balls will be provided.

Tennis $15The players will learn tennis rules, different strokes and serving, and how to keep score through a variety of drills and fun games. Summer Reading Program freeJoin us this summer to experience FIZZ, BOOM, READ! Discover all areas of science at the library-animals, music, plants, chemistry experiments, and more! The Reading Program is open to any age (birth-Adult). Come to the library on or after June 3 to pick up a bag with goodies and information on how to keep track of the time that you spend reading. When you reach your reading goal, bring your log in to the library. Special programs are held throughout the six weeks- everyone is welcome to attend!

Story Time freeHeld every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 10:30–11:15 during the Summer Reading Program. It is open to any child ages 3 and up. (Under 3 with an adult, no sign up)

Fun Shops $6You must sign-up by the grade you just completed. Another option for kids during the Summer Reading Program is weekly fun shops. These fun shops are meant to be just that-FUN, but also educational. We have games, crafts, books to read, and other fun activities planned around our theme. Sign up for Fun Shops through the online Summer Rec registration on or after May 1st by the grade you just completed (K-5). A one-time $6.00 fee is due at sign-up.

Do you enjoy running, biking, and swimming during the summer? Wouldn‘t it be AWESOME if you could do all three at the same time? Well... you can!

The Mighty Kids Triathlon is a one day event for kids ages 7–13. It will take place at the pool and alongside Landsmeer Golf Course. Kids need to provide their own bikes and helmets (mandatory). Kids will enjoy taking part in this event with others their own age and fans cheering them on along the way! Every participant receives a t-shirt to show they were a part of a triathlon event!

The Lego MovieJoin us for movies and snacks! Popcorn, pop and snack will be sold! All profits go to lifeguard training and certification.

King Arthur, of legend and song, strode across Medieval England with courage and confidence…or did he? What if the troubles of his kingdom threaten to overwhelm him? Follow the original twist on this familiar story as it weaves its way through a landscape full of surprises!

Auditions:Monday, July 28 – 9:45am to noon. $17. Northwestern College DeWitt Theatre

Interested students, entering grades 1-12, may audition. Students must attend school at MOC-FV, OCCS, Spalding or Unity (or be homeschoolers in the MOC-FV school district).Audition does NOT require a prepared song or reading, but students must attend entire audition. All children who audition MUST be available for rehearsal Monday through

Friday, July 28 - August 1, from 10am to 2:30pm, and have Friday evening and Saturday afternoon free for the performances.

There are spots for 50 or 60 students. We’re very sorry, but there is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast in the play.

Everyone who auditions must pay the participation fee of $17. If the student is not cast in the play, the participation fee will be refunded.

Rehearsals:Monday, July 28 through Friday, August 1, from 10am to noon and 12:30 to 2:30pm. Students must attend when their part is scheduled. Some students will attend morning and afternoon rehearsals, and will need to bring a sack lunch.

Performances:

Friday, August 1, 7:30pm and Saturday, August 2, 2:00pm at Northwestern College’s DeWitt Theatre. Admission will be: Adults $7; K-12 students $3. A DVD will be recorded of the local production of King Arthur’s Quest, for a $15 charge.

Explorations in Landscape/Turf Management Camp Have you ever wondered how businesses come up with some pretty neat landscape designs and shapes or why the grass is kept so short on a football field? This camp focuses on exploring different types of landscaping, designing a landscape plus learns how different landscapes contribute to the environment. Youth will also have an opportunity to participate in a service learning project aimed at providing a landscape in their community! For grades 4th -7th. Class is limited to 20.

Orange City Area Fitness CenterAn alliance of Orange City and MOC-Floyd Valley School District. The facility offers community memberships, personal training, fitness assessments/exercise prescription, nutritional analysis/meal planning, body composition testing and group exercise programs.

Orange City Municipal Aquatic FacilityOrange City Municipal Aquatic Facility located at 803 2nd St. SE. The pool is heated and offers zero-depth entry, a water slide, lap lanes, diving boards, a splash pad, shade areas and picnic tables, and changing rooms. Pool is open seven days a week during summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day).

Landsmeer Golf ClubLocated on northeast side of town (7th St. NE). An 18-hole course with a practice facility including range, putting green, practice, sand bunker, and chipping green.

Puddle Jumper TrailA two mile nature trail covered with crushed rock. A bridle path for horses also runs along side of the main trail. The path is a former railroad right-of-way connecting the communities of Orange City and Alton. Enjoy nature while walking, jogging, biking, or cross-country skiing (in the winter). Plenty of benches line the path. An open-air shelter, picnic tables, restrooms, and drinking fountain at the mid-point can be used as a rest area or picnic location. The mid-point is accessible from a gravel road off of Highway 10 E. Another access point is located on county road K-64 on the south side of Orange City, and the third access point is located on the west side of Alton.

Recreation TrailA cement path located around the perimeter of Landsmeer Golf Club. The 2-mile path is great for walking, jogging, biking, or rollerblading.

Walking & JoggingAn all-weather track is located at Korver Field on the campus of Northwestern College. An indoor track is located in the Rowenhorst Student Center on the Northwestern campus.

Robert M Dunlop Wildlife AreaA popular fishing spot for local anglers. No swimming allowed. Located just north of Alton, three miles east on Highway 10.

Veteran’s Park Located on Iowa Ave SW—this park includes the Scout House, open air shelters, enclosed rental shelter, picnic tables, restrooms, play structures, two softball/baseball fields, sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, roller-blade rink, basketball courts, and camping area equipped with electrical and water hook-ups.

Kinderspeelland Located in Vet’s Park—this community built wooden playground was constructed in September 1996. All the labor for the project was donated by local citizens and the project was completed in five days. Kinderspeelland stands as a memorial to Ed Lancaster, long time Parks Supervisor.

Windmill Park Downtown Orange City—this park includes an open air rental shelter, beautiful play structures, picnic tables, restrooms, and bandshell. It is the showcase park for the annual Tulip Festival.

Jaycee Park Located on Albany Ave. SE—next to Northwestern College’s Korver Field—Jaycee Park has lighted tennis courts and two open air shelters.

Pool Park Located at the aquatic facility (2nd St. SE) and close to Landsmeer Golf Club. Swimming Pool Park contains an enclosed rental shelter house, two open air shelters, restrooms, play structure, and plenty of open space for activities. Access to the multi-purpose trail that circles the golf course is also available.

Puddlejumper View Park Located on Hartford Place SE, this open space park includes a rock wall, play structures, a new swing set and open air shelter. A rock walking path adjoins from the park to the puddle jumper trail!

Bark ParkA dog park available for summer usage. This park has a large dog area along with a separate small dog area. Located in Veteran’s Park.
