Mayor Libby Schaaf and representatives from many of Oakland's leadingbusinesses and not-for-profit organizations gathered in support of Oakland'sC2C's program. The goal of C2C is to help young people gain real world workopportunities and experiences through summer jobs and additional career-related learning events.One such event was the launch of Classrooms2CareersBi-Annual Oakland Youth Career Expo. The Expo was held at Jam Town in

Exhibitors included: California Shakespeare, The Oakland PublicLibrary, The Police Activity League, The Oakland Fire Department, CVS Drug Stores, Sound Fit 3D Scanning, The Paton Group, Seeed Studio,Marstal Day,The Town Kitchen and the College of Alameda.

City Hall Interview Day began with our partners from Lao Family CommunityDevelopment and Youth Uprising presenting a supervisory training sessionfor city department hosts. In the afternoon, candidates began to arrive for theafternoon session of ' speed interviewing' where they would be timed in 5-minute intervals to present their resume to each potential employer. Students and interviewers noted that the time limit made the experience ofinterviewing fun and a challenge as well.

the Jack London area where more than 50 businesses andorganizations came together to teach students about a variety ofcareer opportunities and the skills and education needed to pursuethose careers.

The first day of Classrooms2Careers launched with a celebration andpress conference with Mayor Libby Schaaf. Mayor Schaaf tookquestions from the students and urged them to do their best thissummer in their new jobs. “It is one of the great pleasures of this jobthat I get to work with dedicated community partners, tireless City staff,and generous private sector sponsors to make sure that we arecreating valuable learning and employment experiences for everyyoung person in Oakland,” Mayor Schaaf told the interns.

The Classrooms2Careers Breakfast was held on April 10that the Waterfront Hotel in Jack London Square.
