Youth Opportunities Unlimited’s mission is to empower high school youth to succeed in school, in the workplace and in life through education, employment, and entrepreneurship. Y.O.U. was started in 1982 by former Mayor George Voinovich and the Cleveland business community to provide urban youthwith their first job. Twenty years ago, with the dramatic decline in high school graduation rates, Y.O.U. created programs that motivate youth to stay in school and graduate by adding a comprehensive and intensive career coaching component to our employability skills curriculum.One hundred and fifty thousand youth later, our program continues to thrive.But don’t just take our word for it. Our students, alumni, board members, employers, and volunteers say it best – which is why we asked them to share their stories about Y.O.U. Throughout this year’s report, you’ll find quotes from our youth and our community partners about the positive impact Y.O.U. continues to make in our region.
