a biG Welcome to the Youth service’s new What’s On Guide!

We all know that the Summer holidays can be a time of boredom with nothing to do and for many they’ll be dreading the thought of going to a new school or moving up a year – But fear not, the Youth Service are here to help!

We’ve got loads of fun activities, events and workshops happening around Blaenau Gwent for people aged 11 – 25 that’s guaranteed to keep you occupied and entertained throughout the summer months.

Some of the activities are on a drop in basis (which means you can just turn up if you want to join in) and others you have to book onto by completeing the form at the back of this guide and sending it to us at the EVi (at the address over the page). So look out for the ‘limited space’ stamp next to an activity.

Please remember to book early as there are limited spaces and they will fill up fast! Transport may be provided in certain circumstances – check with us for more details.

Don’t forget - Info on all the activities will be posted regularly on the BG-Youth Service facebook page so keep a look out!

What’s On Guide

Start the holidays with a bang and join the Youth Service and other young people on a fun f illed 3 day stay at Hilston Park from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th July.

There’ll be plenty to do with activities ranging from archery and forest activities to problem solving while you work towards an OCN.

Youth Service reSidential tripDuring your stay you’ll be guaranteed to make new friends, get muddy and most of all have a good time!

You must be aged 14 – 19 to take part and sign up to Pre-Vent.

Ebbw Vale swimming pool will be home to surf fun fitness every Friday through the Summer from 27th July to 31st August.

You’ll learn how to manage a surf board, paddle and possibly even stand up while also playing a variety of fun surf board related games.

Sessions for 8 – 11 years is from 9am to 10am

Sessions for 12 – 16 years is from 10am to 11am

Join us in learning how to create and edit your own short film

before uploading it to You Tube for all to see.

Using the latest Apple Mac computers you will be guided through

the process while using your own ideas to film your own creative

master piece and share for the world to see.

open 4 youthSaturday nights will never be the same again!

Come join us at Ebbw Vale Sports Centre on the second Saturday of each month between 6pm to 9pm for Open 4 Youth.

For those who don’t know what Open 4 Youth is all about it’s your chance to own the sports centre for an evening. At 6pm we shut the doors to adults and we open the centre for young people only!

Once inside you can go swimming, use the hydro slides, take part in street games, use the gym, plus we provide additional activities such

as pool, table tennis, art & crafts, music, beauty and loads more.

share your thoughts or just chill out in the comfort of the EVi café’s

ZuluTraditionin Partnership with EVAD & Communities FirstJoin a group of real Zulu singers and dancers in traditional costume as they deliver an exciting mix of traditional African harmonies and high energy athletic dance moves to the sound of thunderous drum rhythms, then sit back and relax while you watch a performance by the Zulus themselves in the evening.

This is a limited workshop and only available on the 1st and 2nd of August so don’t miss this once in a life time experience!

ProjectBreakdancing

Monday 23rd – Friday 27th JulyElemental Force is the number 1 BBOY organization

and youth development program in South Wales and we’ve got them for a whole week!

You can join Elemental Force for a week long break dance project that will teach you all the essential

skills to become a BBOY star. You’ll learn how to tuck, spin and be the envy of all your friends as you pull some amazing shapes on the dance floor.

Monday 23rd to Friday 27th July – Fee £26 for 1 week@ Beaufort Theatre, Ebbw Vale and The Met, Abertillery.

Our dance and drama summer schools will help you make new friends and learn new skills in a fun and creative environment. Each Summer School runs for one week and will finish with a showcase

performance at the Beaufort Theatre on 27th July.

Tuesday 31st July to Thursday 2nd August – Fee £5 for 3 days@ Llanhilleth Institute

This 3 day dance project offers you the chance to work with professional dance tutors to learn new moves and create a dance

piece using modern music.

Making a Difference with our citizen Project

We will be teaming up with Keep Wales Tidy to get stuck in and improve various places around Blaenau Gwent. As a reward for all your hard work, T4YP will give you time banking credits, which you can then use to access the Youth Service end of summer reward trip, if you have enough points.

The Citizen Project will run on Wednesday 8th, 15th & 22nd August and the reward trip will take place on Wednesday 29th August.

If you’d like to learn to cook or want to experiment in the kitchen – This is the perfect activity for you! Every Monday @ the EVi between 11am – 2pm we’ll be running a cookery class with a difference; with music blasting in the background you’ll get the chance to try out fun new ways to make boring food exciting. Every week we’ll be trying new recipes and putting our taste buds to the test as we serve up delicious dishes for everyone to try! SpaceS are limited – So book early!
