Introduction Sri Lanka is a country with a high level of unemployment.

There exists a structural unemployment among theeducated youth, which in spite of their relatively high levelof education wait for a long time before entering the workforce.

However, the overall unemployment rate is not

exceptional in an international perspective. The problem in Sri Lanka is that there exists a mismatch

between the demand for and supply of the educatedlabour force.

There is a large gap between the so called white collar

jobs and the blue collar jobs which are assumed to be badones.

It is easy to suggest solution to Sri Lankasyouth unemployment problem, but harder toimplement them.

Successful implementation of a better

education system involves commitment anddedication from many individuals and manymore resource dedication as well.

Sri Lanka is a country with great potential, even thoughpoverty is still a major issue.

Whole society must contribute to education of thechildren.

Possibilities abound if these young people have proper

education and exposure to practical training. Education system will work only if the teacher show

dedication and care.
