LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Dear YouthBiz Friend,

Tick tock tick tock. 20 years has passed since YouthBiz first opened its doors. We have a lot to show for our first two decades: 4,500 youth served; $1.4 million dollars in real wages and incentives distributed; a permanent home and training facility. We have, through real and measurable ways, advanced the social and economic prosperity of Denverʼs youth – but our work is not done!

2012 marks the beginning of our next phase of service. We are expanding our capacity through online and partner-based programs, enhancing our program content with proven curricula, and launching a new Entrepreneurial Leaders program to support youth business start-ups and continued entrepreneurship education. Our model is relevant, timely, and rigorous.

The young entrepreneurs of YouthBiz need access to our critical programming now more than ever. 98% of our youth qualify for free or reduced lunch, 95% come from neighborhoods with 7 times more violence than that of their peers, and youth unemploy-ment is near record highs. The challenge is great but the resolve of our youth entrepreneurs is even greater. When actively enrolled in our programs, YouthBiz participants experience a 1.5 point average increase in GPA, they hold a 90% attendance rate, and ZERO % drop out of school!!

Emerging Entrepreneurs brings entrepreneurship to life through intensive study and project leadership. Participants map and monitor their learning through the development of an Entrepreneurial Action Plan - a strategic guide that outlines how they will develop and apply their knowledge, skills and talents to address real needs and challenges in their community through entrepreneurial action.

Aspiring Entrepreneurs helps youth discover and develop their life-long entrepreneurial potential by concentrating on the building blocks of success – personal leadership, professional skills development, financial management and entrepreneurial thinking. The curriculum used is dynamic, rigorous and aligned to national entrepreneurship education standards.

ENTREPRENEURIALLEADERS

Entrepreneurial Leaders is where participants realize their entrepre-neurial goals and take hold of their future through the launch of a business venture or the pursuit of an business leadership career. This capstone program is completely tailored to, and driven by, the participant, offering access to the specific resources they need to maximize their success.

Young entrepreneurs go BIG in this intensive as they align personal skills, interests, goals and values with needs in the community to create real, sustainable business venture ideas. (One week)

Take 1 motivated young entrepreneur, with 1 solid business idea, and 1 dedicated industry expert. Combine with a week of intensive business development. The result - a fast-track plan for business venture launch! (One week)

Youth dive deep into the world of entrepreneurial leadership in prepara-tion for participation in the Emerging Entrepreneurs program, identifying goals and milestones for their year-long study. (One weekend)
