    Youth With A Mission

    Statement of Purpose

YWAM is an internationalmovement of Christians frommany denominations dedi-cated to presenting JesusChrist personally to this gen-eration, to mobilizing as manypeople as possible to help inthis task, and to the trainingand equipping of believersfor their part in fulfilling theGreat Commission. As citizensof Gods Kingdom we are

called to love, worship andobey our Lord, to love andserve His body, the church, and to present the WholeGospel for the whole person

    throughout the whole world.

    YWAM ChicagoStatement of Purpose

YWAM Chicago is commit-ted to city-wide ministry and

to the redemption of Godsdesign for the modern urbancommunity. We endeavor topresent the Gospel to the so-cially and culturally isolated,to embrace and train the im-migrant populations of ourcity, and to seek to bring thewhole gospel to the whole citythrough long-term communitydevelopment and short-term

    outreaches.

The city can be a place of great celebration. One ofthe gifts of the city is its power to celebrate. All aroundthe city are lights, music, and streets filled with sentimen-tal reminders of joy, hope and memories with family. Cit-ies create atmosphere, either for good or bad. The di-verse and creative community of the mega city cancreate life, but for those who are broken and discon-nected, the city can accentuate that disconnection.

Thanksgiving and Christmas are times to remember the im-portant things God has given us such as family, hope for the

future, and life filled with the promise of joy and salvation. Forthe broken among us the season is simply a loud reminder ofthings lost and broken, and an overwhelming hopelessnessin the future. Psalms 68:6 says that God places the lonelyin families. God has purposed that all men should be con-nected to the grace He provides through relationships. Com-munity is created by God to provide a refuge of relation-ships for the outcast, the poor, and the disconnected.(Duet16:14; 26:13; Isa 58:6-7; Matt 25:35-36) God is bringingthe brokenness of humanity out of isolation into the city

so they may find His grace and healing.(Acts 17:26-27)

All around us are thousands of homeless; refugees and im-migrants separated from their families; and hundreds ofthousands of children and adults from broken homes. TheWorld works hard to marginalize and isolate the broken hu-manity that throngs to the cities. Christmas reminds us thatthe Creator and Sustainer of the Universe gave up what Hehad a right to, put on human flesh and walked among ourbrokenness,. He came to heal and buy back, with His very

life, what He originally intended for our lives. May He do thesame today through us. Perhaps in us, Jesus will be able toput on flesh this Christmas, like He did 2000 years ago, andwalk the broken streets of our cities. May He give us thegrace to be a family to someone without one and providea community of grace for those who no longer see the Onewho walked among us giving hope and salvation to Man.

Chicago NewsFrom Old Testament times, it has been Gods heart that His peo-

ple care for the foreigner and sojourner among them. We havean incredible responsibility and opportunity to love these foreign-ers among us and we believe that it all starts with prayer. TheChicago Ethnic Embrace 31 day prayer guide is still available. We continue to have a passion to equip the body of Christ inChicago with this key tool.

Each day of the guide features a nation of peoples with sig-nificant representation here in Chicago. A brief synopsis of thenation is given about that nations history along with the historyof their arrival in America and how to specifically pray for them.

Youth With A Mission is an international movement of Christians from many denominations dedicated to serving Jesus throughout the world. Also known as YWAM (pronounced WYE-wam), our calling is to know God and to make Him known. Back when we began in 1960, our main focus was to get youth into short-term mission work and to give them opportuni-ties to reach out in Jesus name. Today, we still focus on youth, and we also involve people of almost every age (even many people who choose to spend their retirement in activeservice). Our many ministries fit into three main categories: evangelism, training and mercy ministry. We are currently operating in more than 1000 locations in over 149 countries, with astaff of nearly 16,000.

Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head. - Matthew 8:20

It seems the modern city has made people invisible. Rather, It is both a giftand a calling on the city to bring people out of invisibility into recognition.

The city has the power to say to people, You are not forgotten! An ear-mark of Jesus life and ministry was the consistent way He responded tothe suffering around Him with compassion. It was this very compassion thatmoved Him to get involved. Imagine this gift in operation in our cities. Oftenwe have a compassion for people when we see them hurting and needy, but feel we arent prepared to help them. What if we were prepared? Whatif we had made up our mind that when we saw someone that was needythat we would stop and help, at least once? Maybe that means keepinga bag full of warm clothes or blankets in the trunk of your car. Maybe it

means walking around with granola bars, hot chocolate packets or giftcards in your bag to give to someone who asks for your charity. Or consid-er taking a homeless person into a restaurant, buying them food and ask-ing them about their life. One million people a week are moving to a cityaround the world. Perhaps the reason God continues to draw people tothe city is because He has a bigger vision for our communities than we do.
