    Helpful hints and tipsSorting out the laundryFollow the wash code symbols on each garment label andthe manufacturers washing instructions. Sort the laundryas follows: whites, coloureds, synthetics, delicates, wool-lens.

    Before loading the laundryNever wash whites and coloureds together. Whites maylose their whiteness in the wash.

    New coloured items may run in the first wash; they shouldtherefore be washed separately the first time.Button up pillowcases, close zip fasteners, hooks andpoppers. Tie any belts or long tapes.

    Remove persistent stains before washing.Rub particularly soiled areas with a special detergent ordetergent paste.Treat curtains with special care. Remove hooks or tie themup in a bag or net.

    Remo ving stainsStubborn stains may not be removed by just water anddetergent. It is therefore advisable to treat them prior towashing.Blood:treat fresh stains with cold water. For dried stains,soak overnight in water with a special detergent then rubin the soap and water.

    9

  • 7/27/2019 Zanussi Zwgh7105

    10/24

    Oil based paint:moisten with benzine stain remover, laythe garment on a soft cloth and dab the stain; treat severaltimes.Dried grease stains:moisten with turpentine, lay the gar-ment on a soft surface and dab the stain with the fingertipsand a cotton cloth.Rust:oxalic acid dissolved in hot water or a rust removingproduct used cold. Be careful with rust stains which arenot recent since the cellulose structure will already havebeen damaged and the fabric tends to hole.Mould stains:treat with bleach, rinse well (whites and fastcoloureds only).Grass:soap lightly and treat with bleach (whites and fastcoloureds only).

    Ball point pen and glue:moisten with acetone1), lay thegarment on a soft cloth and dab the stain.

    Lipstick:moisten with acetone as above, then treat stainswith methylated spirits. Treat any residual marks withbleach.Red wine:soak in water and detergent, rinse and treat withacetic or citric acid, then rinse. Treat any residual markswith bleach.Ink:depending on the type of ink, moisten the fabric firstwith acetone1), then with acetic acid; treat any residualmarks on white fabrics with bleach and then rinse thor-oughly.Tar stains:first treat with stain remover, methylated spiritsor benzine, then rub with detergent paste.

    Detergents and additivesGood washing results also depend on the choice of de-tergent and use of the correct quantities to avoid wasteand protect the environment.Although biodegradable, detergents contain substanceswhich, in large quantities, can upset the delicate balanceof nature.

    The choice of detergent will depend on the type of fabric(delicates, woollens, cottons, etc.), the colour, washingtemperature and degree of soiling.All commonly available washing machine detergents maybe used in this appliance:

    powder detergents for all types of fabric

    powder detergents for delicate fabrics (60C max) andwoollens

    liquid detergents, preferably for low temperature washprogrammes (60C max) for all types of fabric, or spe-cial for woollens only.

    The detergent and any additives must be placed in theappropriate compartments of the dispenser drawer beforestarting the wash programme.If using liquid detergents, a programme withoutprewashmust be selected.Your appliance incorporates a recirculation system whichallows an optimal use of the concentrated detergent.Follow the product manufacturers recommendations onquantities to use and do not exceed the MA X m ark inthe detergent dispenser drawer.Quantity of detergent to be usedThe type and quantity of detergent will depend on the typeof fabric, load size, degree of soiling and hardness of thewater used.Follow the product manufacturers instructions on quan-tities to use.Use less detergent if:

    you are washing a small load

    the laundry is lightly soiled

    large amounts of foam form during washing.

    Degrees of water hardnessWater hardness is classified in so-called degrees ofhardness. Information on hardness of the water in yourarea can be obtained from the relevant water supply com-pany, or from your local authority. If the water hardnessdegree is medium or high we suggest you to add a watersoftener following always the manufacturers instructions.

    When the degree of hardness is soft, readjust the quantityof the detergent.

    1) do not use acetone on artificial silk

    Problem Possible cause/Solution

    There is water on the floor:

    Too much detergent or unsuitable detergent (creates too much foam) has beenused.

    Reduce the detergent quantity or use another one.Check whether there are any leaks from one of the inlet hose fittings. It is not

    always easy to see this as the water runs down the hose; check to see if it isdamp.

    Check the water inlet hose connection.The drain or inlet hose is damaged.

    Replace it with a new one.The cap on the emergency emptying hose has not been replaced or the filterhas not been properly screwed in after cleaning action.

    Refit the cap on the emergency emptying hose or screw the filter fully in.

    16/24

    Problem Possible cause/Solution

    Spinning starts late or the mac hinedoes not spin:

    The electronic unbalance detection device has cut in because the laundry isnot evenly distributed in the drum. The laundry is redistributed by reverserotation of the drum. This may happen several times before the unbalancedisappears and normal spinning can resume. If, after 10 minutes, the laundryis still not evenly distributed in the drum, the machine will not spin. In thiscase, redistribute the load manually and select the spin programme.

    Redistribute the laundry.The load is too small.

    Add more items, redistribute the load manually and then select the spinningprogramme.

    The machine makes an unusualnoise:The machine is fitted with a type of motor which makes an unusual noisecompared with other traditional motors. This new motor ensures a softer startand more even distribution of the laundry in the drum when spinning, as wellas increased stability of the machine.

    No w ater is visible in the drum: Machines based on modern technology operate very economically using verylittle water without affecting performance.

    If you are unable to identify or solve the problem, contactour service centre. Before telephoning, make a note of themodel, serial number and purchase date of your machine:the Service Centre will require this information.

    Care and cleaningWarning You must DISCONNECT the appliancefrom the electricity supply, before you can carry out

    any cleaning or maintenance work.

    DescalingThe water we use normally contains lime. It is a good ideato periodically use a water softening powder in the ma-chine. Do this separately from any laundry washing, andaccording to the softening powder manufacturer's in-

    structions. This will help to prevent the formation of limedeposits.

    External cleaningClean the exterior cabinet of the appliance with soap andwater only, and then dry thoroughly.

    Cleaning the dispenser drawerThe washing powder and additive dispenser drawershould be cleaned regularly.

    17

    18/24

    Remove the drawer bypressing the catch down-wards and by pulling itout. Flush it out under atap, to remove any tracesof accumulated powder.

    To aid cleaning, the toppart of the additive com-partment should be re-moved.

    Cleaning the drawer recessHaving removed the draw-er, use a small brush toclean the recess, ensuringthat all washing powderresidue is removed fromthe upper and lower part ofthe recess.

    Replace the drawer and run the rinse programme with-out any clothes in the drum.

    Cleaning the pum pThe pump should be inspected if:

    the machine does not empty and/or spin;

    the machine makes an unusual noise during drainingdue to objects such as safety pins, coins etc. blockingthe pump.

    Proceed as follows: disconnect the appliance;

    if necessary wait until the water has cooled down.

    Open the pump door.Place a container close tothe pump to collect anyspillage.

    Pull out the emergencyemptying hose, place it inthe container and removeits cap.

    When no more water comes out, unscrew the pumpcover and remove it. Always keep a rag nearby to dryup spillage of water when removing the cover.

    Remove any objects fromthe pump impeller by ro-tating it.Put the cap back on the

    emergency emptying hoseand place the latter back inits seat.

    Screw the pump coverfully in.Close the pump door.

    Caution When the appliance is in use anddepending on the programme selected there can be

    hot water in the pump.Never remove the pump cover during a wash cycle, alwayswait until the appliance has finished the cycle, and isempty. When replacing the cover, ensure it is securely re-

    tightened so as to stop leaks and young children beingable to remove it.

    Cleaning the water inlet filterIf your water is very hard or contains traces of lime deposit,the water inlet filter may become clogged. It is thereforea good idea to clean it from time to time.

    Turn off the water tap. Un-screw the water inlet hose.Clean the filter using ahard bristle brush. Tightenup the inlet hose.

    Frost precautionIf the machine is exposed to temperatures below 0C,certain precautions should be taken.

    Turn off the water tap.

    Unscrew the inlet hose.

    Place the end of the emergency emptying hose and that

    of the inlet hose in a bowl placed on the floor and letwater drain out.

    Screw the water inlet hose back on and reposition theemergency emptying hose after having put the cap onagain.

    When you intend to start the machine up again, makesure that the room temperature is above 0C.

    Emergency emptying outIf the water is not discharged, proceed as follows to emptyout the machine:

    pull out the plug from the power socket;

    close the water tap;

    if necessary, wait until the water has cooled down;

    open the pump door;

    place a bowl on the floor and place the end of theemergency emptying hose into the bowl. Remove its

    cap. The water should drain by gravity into the bowl.When the bowl is full, put the cap back on the hose.Empty the bowl. Repeat the procedure until water stopsflowing out;

    clean the pump if necessary as previously described;

    replace the emergency emptying hose in its seat afterhaving plugged it;

    screw the pump cover again and close the door.

    Important Every time you drain the water through theemergency emptying hose you must pour 2 litres of waterinto the main wash compartment of the detergent drawerand then run the drain programme. This will activate theECO Valvedevice avoiding that part of the detergentremains unused at next washing.

    InstallationUnpackingAll transit bolts and packing must be removed before us-ing the appliance.You are advised to keep all transit devices so that theycan be refitted if the machine ever has to be transported
