SEEING WITH JESUS: Developing a Worldview Shaped by the Gospels

PRELUDE — “Be Thou My Vision” ……………………………………………... arr. Wood WELCOME *HYMN OF PRAISE – “Hail to the Lord’s Anointed” ………………………….. No. 98 Hail to the Lord’s anointed, great David’s greater Son! Hail in the time appointed, His reign on earth begun! He comes to break oppression, to set the captives free, To take away transgressions, and rule with equity.

He comes with justice speedy to those who suffer wrong, To help the poor and needy, and bid the weak be strong, To give them songs for singing, their darkness turn to light, Whose souls, condemned and dying, are precious in His sight.

He shall come down like showers upon the fruitful earth, Love, joy, and hope, like flowers, spring in His path to birth. Before Him, on the mountains, shall peace, the herald, go, And righteousness, in fountains, from hill to valley flow.

To Christ shall prayer unceasing and daily vows ascend, His kingdom still increasing, a kingdom without end. The tide of time shall never His covenant remove. His name shall stand forever; that name to us is Love. *RESPONSIVE LITANY Leader: This morning we attempt to see the world as Jesus saw it in the Sermon on the Mount. People: In these words Jesus reveals to us the true nature of God’s Kingdom. Leader: We are invited to enter the Kingdom, here and now, obedient to these teachings. People: To enter into the Kingdom is the only way to live the best, most abundant, life. Leader: We confess that none of us perfectly carries out these teachings. People: Yet we need to understand that in these words Jesus is calling us to the life of true discipleship. Leader: In these sacred and holy words we are offered a new vision of God, People: And encouraged to let that vision transform our lives.

THE FLOWER ARRANGEMENT is placed in the sanctuary today in loving memory of Micky Hicks (September 9) and Nicole Carlyle (September 15) who would have been celebrating birthdays this week by Mary Pat Hicks, wife and mother. THE FLOWER ARRANGEMENT is placed in the sanctuary today by Susan Pullium. We look forward to a wonderful Fall of spiritual growth and fellowship. MEDITATION — Join our Monday morning meditation — the art of listening to the Divine — September 20 at 8:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary. We will continue to circulate paper copies throughout the campus.

WELCOME RIDE What is the Welcome Ride? Over a four-day period, October 14-17, 2021, CBFNC Executive Coordinator, Larry Hovis, and a small cycling team will ride from the bustling state capital region to the beautiful NC coast. The purpose of this ride is to raise awareness and funds for CBF of North Carolina’s new missions program, Welcome House Community Network (WHCN). The emerging network seeks to extend Christian hospitality in the form of temporary housing and community out-reach to vulnerable people in every NC city and town. What does this mean for Zebulon Baptist Church? On Friday morning, October 15, Larry Hovis will begin the 2021 Welcome Ride from our parking lot. Gathering will be at 8:00 a.m. with a continental style breakfast in the parking lot and a shot-gun start at 9:00 a.m. All are invited to come and cheer Larry and his team on as they ride from ZBC to Wilson to Conetoe to Greenville on Friday and continue mak-ing his way to Wilmington on Saturday and Sunday. You may even recognize one of our own on Larry’s cycling team! Come, enjoy breakfast, and cheer on the CBFNC Cycling team for this wonderful ministry.

YOUTH HANDBELLS AND YOUTH CHOIR BEGIN TODAY This afternoon we will begin a new year of handbells and choral choir for youth. Handbell rehearsal will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the Handbell Room — we hope all of the old ringers come back for a new year and that some youth will give hand-bells a try this year. At 5:45 p.m. Youth Choir will rehearse in the Choir Room until 6:30 p.m. We look forward to learning new pieces for Advent/Christmas and Seque. The youth music ministry at ZBC is fun for the youth and a blessing to the church family. Give us a try as we get started in a new year of ministry this after-noon.
