Lab 1 Hands-On Exercises for Chapter 1 – Operating System Theory In Chapter 1, we learned basic concepts about operating systems. We’ve discussed in certain detail about how operating systems work by describing essential elements of an OS and how these elements interact with each other in providing useful features to users of the computer. In this lab, we focus on Microsoft Windows 7 system as installed in our lab machines. We will explore some essential features and the GUI interfaces that support these features. For each of the “Hands-On Project” (from your textbook) as provided in this assignment, you are expected to - Complete the task by following the steps as suggested; - Take one or more screenshot from the key step(s) that you performed; - Use a few complete sentences to record your findings or questions. - Write up a lab report using a word processing application such as Word to include your screenshots and comments. Note: To take a screenshot in a Windows environment, you may use one of the following techniques: If you need to include the whole screen, hit Ctrl + PrtScn together, or If you want to focus on the window for one single application, use Alt + PrtScn together, instead. Then, you can paste the image into your report (as a Word file) or into an image editor (such as Paint) for additional processing. Send your report to your instructor by email or as a hardcopy, and save it with your other assignments on a thumb drive or online.
