Yoshitoshi KadoguchiBorn in and raised in Kumanogawa-cho, Shingu City. He established a business of selling and repairing construction equipment, Kinan Kenki, in his hometown Shingu City in 1974 and set up a department specialized in leasing construction equipment two years later, ahead of any other competitors. Currently, he is the President of the Japan Construction Equipment Rental Association and President of Sports Produce Kumano.

Work Progress

For the construction, groundbreaking survey is indispensable. Because we draw a design then calculate the number of construction processes by understanding the shape of the sites, groundbreaking survey is an important process affecting the construction cost. I-Construction is the new standard of an architectural production process making the sites 3D by using ICT (Information and Communication Technology) such as drones and laser scanners from the groundbreaking survey to design, plan, construction and inspection. By analyzing images of sites using drones, and also by automatically controlling construction machinery based on 3D design data, we can improve the quality of soil quantity calculation and work quality management and also reduce the time and work of survey and construction in 30-40%, and the inspection items in 50%. It is a revolutionary system that can improve the productivity and solve the problems of occupational hazard and lack of man power.

Complete Support for ICT Introductionby Our Technical Knowledge and Expertise Our concept is “labor saving.” While it is a hot issue of “Work Style Reform,” it is urgent to change the image of construction sites “3K” (Kitsui/hard, Kitanai/dirty, Kiken/dangerous in Japanese) in order to solve the serious problems of lack of labors. In the traditional way of survey, it takes one week to complete survey for example, but it takes only 30 minutes using a drone. Consequently, more precise result of survey can be obtained by producing 3D models of the site in subsequent processes such as point cloud processing and data analysis. In regards to construction work, unexperienced and/or women operators can carry it out as accurately, safely and quickly as an expert operator does. In Kinan, we have established ICT construction team consisted with the staffs who have technical knowledges and expertise, and we have successfully realized the “One-Stop Solution” that can do all processes completely by themselves. We can support our clients for not only ICT introduction, but we can also act comprehensively on behalf.

The First Oversea Subsidiaryin Kinan, MYANMAR KINANIn 2015, we have established MYANMAR KINAN as our oversea subsidiary company. In Myanmar, where is developing rapidly, it is concerned that there will be more occupational hazards in the future while the lack of labors and operators is a current big issue. As a professional of construction machinery rental service, we not only provide convenient high-quality machinery, but also we provide service focusing on safety, such as safety education and construction machinery operators training. In Myanmar, our efforts are recognized, and we will open and manage operator training center from 2020.

Repair Department is one of the Kinan’s main business now. Among 340 male staffs, about one third of them are in the Repair Department, repair service persons are assigned in each service office. Among them, there are some special class construction machinery maintenance engineers, and 20 out of 45 shops are the certified factories of Specified Self-Inspection that is a construction machinery periodic inspection. Also, we have service-centers which are specialized for repairing. We rarely rely on manufacturers, and we are the designated factory for manufactures by improving our knowledges and skills. Although it is not possible to continue construction processes while we temporary keep machines for maintenance or repair, Kinan can arrange substitute vehicles quickly, so our customers are happy about leaving their vehicles at Kinan without any worry.

In Kinan, there are many great staffs, most of them are in their 30’s, we can handle issues by the past instances and cooperating among service-staffs. By taking responsibility from maintenance after purchasing to repairing for failures, Repair Department has got a great trust from customers. Aerial Work Platform Department and Bridge Inspection Department are one of our strongest and the most unique departments in our company. We have a top market share in the rental services of aerial work platforms, which are used for electrical work and attaching and detaching of signboards on roofs, walls, and windows of the building, and bridge inspection vehicles, which are used for bridge safety inspection by approaching a wide range of inspection areas from the roads to under the bridge smoothly. We always have kept in our mind to suggest appropriate construction machinery based on the condition of each site, which is our strong point in a specific field, for example, targeting research companies for inspection for bridge construction before the construction starts. Most of the customers of Ogaki branch value relationship more than just how much better the cost is. That’s why I personally give priority to building up good relationships with them than having a talk about business.Another stance and principle of KINAN is “Helpful Sales” which means we KINAN will do anything good to our customers. For example, we even run to a DIY store to get a door knob for replacement when we get to know it is broken in a customer’s office. It makes our customers happy and makes us special to them since we do better work than what they expect. I believe it is because KINAN allows us to do whatever we believe it is good to customers that we sales can provide such special services.

I was trying very hard to acquire new customers in my new employee days. I was trying to build customer trust by keeping on doing small helpful things such as fastening loosened screws on their machines, which actually worked.The customer officially asked some works after that, and the business with him gradually increased. Now he is one of my main customers who buy from me a tens of million yen machinery.And another story is that a customer contacted me saying “I am having trouble with purchasing a machinery”. I feel pleasure more when I am counted on than getting a new business.Now I have as many as 100 calls per day from my customers, which I used to have only a couple of them at the beginning. He usually spends his days off with his child. He is looking forward to having BBQ and snowboarding together once his child grows up enough. Ogaki service office mainly consists of people in their 20s or 30s, and the director of the office is in his 40s. They work in friendly atmosphere, and they often have a get-together with their coworkers.

I have graduated from Economics Department, so I am from totally different background in this field. The trigger was when I was looking for a job, I got interested in mechanical stuff. I got to know Kinan when I was wishing to get technical skills, and I decided to apply for Kinan’s job when I found that I can become a technician there without science background. In the first year, I was assigned in Hidaka Service Center. Because I knew nothing at the first time, I started from the very beginning, learning the names of tools. The first thing I learned was painting work, which I was not good at all. However, when I did painting work all by myself for the first time, I felt full of accomplishment. Now it is my fifth year in Kinan, and I feel that there is no disadvantage about my major in the university. There is no barrier between the senior and junior coworkers, and everyone teaches me kindly. Now I can say with confidence “if I am into mechanic stuff, I can grow up fast”.

I Joined Kinan by Wishing“To Get Technical Skills”

Tsu Office, where I was assigned in the second year in Kinan, didn’t have so many staffs, and there were only two persons in the service department, just my boss and me. One day, I received a call from a customer saying “The engine of the excavator doesn’t start”. Because my boss was busy at that time, it was me who had to go. But I didn’t even know what to check. I was flustered, asked my boss for help on the phone, and called the manufacturer, then finally it was solved taking as long as half a day. The customer said to me “thank you very much for doing your best”, and this word made me relieved. It is cool that you can repair a machine with just one tool, isn't it? You go to a customer in trouble, solve their problem quickly and perfectly, then say goodbye to the customer. If the problem is not so complicated, I can repair it with one flat-head screwdriver. When I see a customer’s surprised face saying “What, is it done so fast?” I feel “I did it”.

I want to challenge more complicated and bigger repairment such as overhauling an engine itself. Also, I want to be able to suggest customers “it is better to repair this part as well” by checking not only the requested machine, but also the other machines in the same place.

Sustainable Energy from the SunRealizing sustainable society and energy. It is one of our most important challenges to make an effort to realize a sustainable society. Kinan has been actively working on developing a mega-solar project in an early time, in order to decrease the amount of CO2 emission and the burden on the environment. Currently, we manage and plan solar power plants generating more than 30,000 kw in Wakayama Prefecture, Mie Prefecture, Fukuoka Prefecture, Aichi Prefecture, Gifu prefecture, Hiroshima Prefecture, etc. 19 locations in total. We continue on construction and management of mega-solar plants safely cooperating with local communities and engage in popularization and expansion of natural energy.

Her hobby is to make accessories by hands. She also likes to look for restaurants for lunch. She is happy about many restaurants have newly opened recently. “Restaurants in Wakaura are very popular. I can take a leave on weekday, so it is easy to go to the popular restaurants.”

Front reception is the representative of each service office and we need to communicate with many different people. First of all, when we receive an order, we contact the service department to be ready for delivery and arrange shipping to be on time on the delivery date. We receive a few dozens of orders a day, while we manage new orders, we also follow up the received orders at the same time. It is important to manage own schedule well. Sometimes, we receive urgent requests because the construction process is usually not going as planned. At that time, basically we don’t say No, and we try to find the way to solve the problem. Even though our job is an office work, we go around often, not just sitting on own desk. I always keep in my mind to communicate with both customers and staffs with a smile.

company is not just the price. They also value personalities and the ability to respond to the orders. When the customers say, “I prefer Kinan after all”, I am so happy. Not only just following what customers requested, but we also do a variety of things such as making an estimate by asking advice from sales staffs and giving advices about machines which customers need. However, I am frustrated that I cannot operate or inspect machines. In order to cover up my weak points, I want to learn more. If possible, I want to get licenses. If I know more, I can support more. There are a few females but mostly males at the reception. I want more female staffs to work at front receptions in the future. If we have various kinds of people in our office, I think we can do more than now.

Since 2015, we have made a bicycle road racing team called “Kinan Cycling Team”, and we have been participating in both national and international races. Our home town, Kumano area between Wakayama Prefecture and Mie Prefecture, our goals are to get the 1st prize at an international bicycle road racing “Tour de Kumano” which is officially recognized by UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) and to make racing events grow up. As a result, we would like to contribute to Kumano community, the regional development, sports promotion, and the development of bicycle culture.

We host a competition of bicycle racings and stage races called “Tour de Kumano” in Kumano Kodo, or Kumano old trails, where is registered as a World Heritage Site. Started in 1999, since 2008 it has been categorized in 2.2 Asia Tour by UCI, and it has been developing to an international bicycle road racing that not only national teams but also foreign teams participate in. Throughout the competitions, our players can improve their skills, and at the same time, our goal is to contribute to popularization of bicycles and bicycle sports, international exchange, and the regional development of Kii Peninsula and Kumano area. By holding an international bicycle road racing in Kumano, we try to call many people to Kumano.
