Blood donation is life donation. In order to promote an attitude of blood
donation among the students the Red Ribbon Club and NSS Unit of Nirmala
College has formulated a blood donation register. The register includes the name of
students who are willing to donate blood. To enlist the name of the newly admitted
students of the college the unit organized a blood group identification camp on
28th August 2014 and the blood groups of all 1st year boys were identified and
included in the blood donors list.
Every year our nation requires about 4 crore units of blood. But hardly 40
lakh units of blood are available. As blood cannot be manufactured, it comes only
from generous donors. So, as socially responsible citizens of the nation, it is our
duty to donate blood to the needy. The Red Ribbon Club and NSS Unit of Nirmala
College is keen in promoting a habit of blood donation among the volunteers as
well as other students. As part of generating a consciousness among the students in
this regard, the unit organized a blood donation camp in association with
Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, Aluva on 9th October 2014. Thirty Eight
students donated blood in the camp.
The donors were awarded certificates of appreciation in their respective
classes by the class teachers to appreciate them and to promote the spirit of blood
donation among other students.

initiated a variety of programmes to bring about a radical change in the mind set of
teachers - a shift in their concept of teaching from a mere profession to a noble
vocation. Xavier Board also initiated many programmes to make the students look
further than their own selves - to give them a deep concern for others.
Conscious effort is made by the College authorities to help the students
identify values that are meaningful to them. On every Friday, the first half an
hour is set apart for Value Education. Topics to be discussed during these period
are prepared before hand and distributed to the teachers-in-charge. These classes,

no doubt, offer a good platform for the teachers to inculcate a strong value base in
students. There is annual evaluation of the students to see how the lessons help
them to internalize the values. Awards are given to the toppers.
