^ Mizzou will be in action for three dulas on Sunday, Nov. 12, as the Tigers host in-state programs Central Missouri, Truman State and Missouri Valley. The duals are scheduled to start at Noon (CT), and will occur one after another.
^ The dual will be available free of charge to the public on Mizzou Network, which can be accessed through MUTigers.com. ^ Mizzou enters the duals ranked No. 5 in the preseason USA Today/NWCA Division I Coaches Poll. The preseason top-10 ranking for
Mizzou marks the fourth straight season Mizzou has been ranked in the top-10 to start the season. Mizzou checked in at No. 6 in the 2014 preseason poll, No. 9 in 2015 poll and No. 5 in the 2016 poll. Mizzou has not dropped out of the top-10 of the NWCA Division I Coaches Poll since the 2013-14 season.
^ Mizzou opened the season with a 20-17 defeat over No. 12 Illinois on Nov. 4 inside the Mizzou Softball Stadium, where 1,810 fans braved the cold to watch the first outside dual in program history. Mizzou won six of 10 bouts in the dual, and received major decision vicotries from redshirt sophomore 141-pounder Jaydin Eierman and redshirt junior 174-pounder Daniel Lewis.
^ Mizzou has dominated the three teams making the trip to Columbia over the years, as the Tigers own a combined record of 49-6-1 against Central Missouri, Truman State and Missouri Valley. Mizzou Head Coach Brian Smith owns a record of 12-1-1 against the three programs during his tenure, only falling to Central Missouri, 21-15, in 2001, his second year on the job. The last time Mizzou faced any of it’s three Sunday foes was when Mizzou dismantled Truman State, 54-0, to open the 2014-15 season.
^ Coach Smith returns a loaded lineup from last year’s team that finished fifth at the 2017 NCAA Championships, its third straight NCAA top-10 finish and seventh overall under Smith. The Tigers will have four returning All-Americans in their lineup: redshirt senior 157-pounder Joey Lavallee, Eierman, Lewis and redshirt senior 197-pounder Willie Miklus. Lavallee earned All-America honors for the first time in 2017, reaching the NCAA Finals, while Eierman took fifth at 141 pounds in 2017, and Lewis took fourth in 2016 and sixth in 2017 at 165 pounds. Miklus returns to the lineup after missing the majority of the 2016-17 season due to a knee injury. At 184 pounds, Miklus finished seventh in 2015 and sixth in 2016.

Q U I C K F A C T S
LEETH IS BACK ^ After missing the entire 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons
due to various injuries, redshirt junior 149-pounder Grant Leeth returned to the lineup against Illinois, defeating No. 17-ranked Eric Barone, 6-2.
^ The long wait to retun to the mat paid off for Leeth, who was inserted into the individual rankings thanks to his upset-win in his Mizzou debut. Leeth now ranks No. 19 by Intermat, No. 18 by The Open Mat, No. 25 by TrackWrestling and No. 20 by FloWrestling.
^ Before transferring to Mizzou, Leeth posted a record of 14-4 during a redshirt season at Duke in 2014-15, where he placed in two open tournaments. At Kearney High School in Kearney, Mo., Leeth won three consecutive Missouri state titles between 2012-14.
BONUS POINT MACHINE ^ Redshirt junior 174-pounder Daniel Lewis has been a bonus
point machine since being inserted into the starting lineup in 2015-16. In 58 total wins, Lewis has recorded bonus points in 67.2 percent of his victories (39-of-58). In total, Lewis has recorded 19 falls, 15 major decisions and five technical falls in his career.
^ Lewis opened the 2017-18 season by defeating No. 20-ranked Xavier Mantalvo (Illinois), 14-2, amassing more than three minutes of riding time in the victory.
^ In 2015-16, Lewis went 29-6 and was named the MAC Freshman of the Year after a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships at 165 pounds. He totaled 10 falls, nine major decisions and one technical fall on the season.
^ The bonus point victories did not stop in 2016-17, as Lewis went 28-6 and finished sixth at the NCAA Championships at 165 pounds. Lewis totaled 22 wins by bonus points on the season, nine falls, nine major decisions and four techincal falls.
MOVING ON UP ^ With the graduation of possibly the best wrestler in program
history, J’den Cox, a large majority of Mizzou’s upper weights decided to make the move up one weight class for competition this season.
^ Sliding into the 165 pound slot in the starting lineup is redshirt sophomore 165-pounder Connor Flynn, who took a redshirt season in 2016-17 due to transfer rules after transferring from West Virginia. In his redshirt campaign, Flynn ran through competition at just about every stop, posting a record of 24-4 and placing in the top-three in five open tournaments. Flynn won 12 matches by way of bonus points in the process, recording two major decisions, seven technical falls and three falls. In his true freshman season at West Virginia in 2015-16, Flynn went 14-18 and placed fourth at the Big 12 Championships.
^ Moving up to 174 pounds is two-time NCAA All-American redshirt junior 174-pounder Daniel Lewis, who placed fourth at the NCAA Championships in 2016 and sixth in 2017. Lewis is best known for being tough in the top position on the mat, and routinely amasses four minutes or more of riding time during his matches.
^ At 184 pounds this season will be a mix of redshirt freshman 184-pounder Canten Marriott, redshirt sophomore 184-pounder Dylan Wisman and redshirt freshman 184-pounder Wyatt Koelling. Marriott will get the start
against Illinois, but expect to see Wisman and Koelling in the lineup as the season progresses. Both Marriott and Wisman wrestled at 174 pounds in 2016-17.
^ After spending the last three seasons at 184 pounds, redshirt senior 197-pounder Willie Miklus will wrestle at his more natural weight in 2017-18. As a senior at Southeast Polk High School in Iowa, Miklus won a state title at 220 pounds.
MISSOURI BOYS ^ Over his 20 year tenure at the helm of Mizzou Wrestling,
Head Coach Brian Smith has always made a point to keep the top wrestling talent home in the Show Me State.
^ Of the 35 wrestlers on Mizzou’s roster, 15 hail from Missouri, including six slated to start in Saturday’s dual. A breakdown of those 15 wrestlers is below:

COX CLAIMS BRONZE AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS, JOINS COACHING STAFF
^ Three-time NCAA National Champion J’den Cox claimed a Bronze Medal with a third-place finish in the 86 kg bracket at the 2017 World Championships on August 25. Cox defeated former World Champion Mhail Ganev, 8-0, in the third-place bout to claim his second international bronze medal this year
^ With the medal, Cox becomes the first wrestler in program history to medal at the World Championships. It is his second career medal after also capturing Bronze last summer at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
^ In May, Cox joined the Mizzou coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach. In addition to joining the wrestling staff, Cox will continue to wrestle in international competitions under the Missouri Wrestling Regional Training Center.
^ Cox concluded his illustrious Mizzou wrestling career this past March by winning his third NCAA National title at 197 pounds, becoming the second four-time All-American in program history and first to reach the top of the podium three times. He ended the season second in Dan Hodge Trophy voting with a perfect 28-0 record, becoming just the second wrestler in program history to finish the season with an unblemished record. In 2014, the hometown Tiger became the first wrestler in program history to win a national title as a true freshman, and after a fifth-place finish in 2015, Cox returned to the pinnacle of collegiate wrestling with a national title in 2016 at Madison Square Garden.
^ In the Mizzou Wrestling record book, Cox ranks first in winning percentage among wrestlers with over 100 wins (.965, 136-5), tied for second in overall wins (136), second in career technical falls (20), third in career major decisions (31) and tied for eighth in career falls (27).
WILLIE MIKLUS RETURNS ^ After missing a majority of the 2016-17 season due to a knee injury, redshirt senior
197-pounder Willie Miklus returns to the mat for the Black & Gold. ^ Miklus, a two-time NCAA All-American, was named the 2015 MAC Freshman of the
Year after finishing seventh at the NCAA Championships. Miklus ended his freshman campaign with a record of 33-9, including a 18-3 mark in duals, and led the team with 14 falls.
^ Miklus followed up his freshman campaign with a 21-8 performance in 2015-16, placing sixth at the NCAA Championships. Miklus was dominant once again in dual competition, posting a record of 11-2 and 6-0 in MAC duals.

B R I A N S M I T H20th Season as Mizzou Head CoachMichigan State, 1990Career Record: 251-101-4Mizzou Record: 249-93-3
Over the past 19 years, Brian Smith and the men that have gone through his Mizzou Wrestling program have claimed individual Big 12 and MAC Conference Champions, improved grade-point averages, record-setting attendances, a No. 1 national ranking and Missouri’s first-ever NCAA National Champion. His unique “#TigerStyle” training program has molded today’s team into a national powerhouse that looks to contend for the program’s first team NCAA title.
Since being introduced as Missouri’s Head Wrestling Coach May 5, 1998, Smith has demanded nothing but the best from himself, his coaches and his wrestlers. Owning 15 consecutive seasons with a dual record at or above .500, beginning with the 2001-02 season, Smith has coached 22 All-Americans to 42 top-eight performances and five Tigers to seven national championships.
The winningest coach in program history, Smith has compiled a 248-93-3 record at Missouri over his 19 season tenure. On Nov. 15, 2014 in the team’s season opener, Smith and his Tigers claimed a 54-0 victory over Truman State and gave the legendary coach his 200th career win at Mizzou. Smith’s 100th career victory came on Dec. 9, 2006 in Mount Pleasant, Mich., as the team bested then-No. 11 Central Michigan, 31-9. The win made Smith just the second Tiger wrestling coach to reach the 100-win plateau.
With a .721 career winning percentage, Smith holds the highest winning percentage in Mizzou wrestling history. Smith has taken home six consecutive conference Coach of the Year honors dating back to 2012, including five straight awards by the MAC league office. Additionally, in May 2007, Smith was honored with the Dan Gable Coach of the Year Award, presented by W.I.N. Magazine, and in March 2017, Smith was named the NWCA Coach of the Year following the Tigers’ fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
Five Tiger wrestlers have reached the pinnacle of collegiate wrestling, collecting eight NCAA Championships under Smith’s tenure, beginning with Ben Askren. During Askren’s Tiger career, Smith guided the 174-pound grappler Askren to the program’s first back-to-back National Championship titles (2006 and 2007). On March 21, 2009, Mark Ellis became the second Missouri wrestler in program history to collect top honors. Wrestling at heavyweight, Ellis bested his opponent, 3-2, in overtime with Smith coaching from the corner. In March 2010, Max Askren became the third national champion in the history of the program, as he dominated the No. 1 seed in the 184-pound weight class by a 10-3 score. After a four-year drought, true freshman J’den Cox claimed the program’s fifth national title in 2013-14 after defeating Ohio State’s Nick Heflin, 2-1. A year later, redshirt senior Drake Houdashelt concluded his historical Tiger Style career with a 149 pound National Championship at 2015 NCAA’s. On March 19, 2016, Cox returned to the top of the podium at Madison Square Garden, becoming the second two-time NCAA Champ in program history. Cox defeated No. 1 seed Morgan McIntosh (Penn State), 4-2, to capture the title at 197 pounds. Then, on March 18, 2017, Cox became the first ever three-time NCAA National Champion in program and Mizzou Athletics history after defeating Minnesota’s Brett Pfarr, 8-2 at the NCAA Championships in St. Louis, Mo.
The 2017 season saw numerous program records fall, as Smith led Mizzou to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, its seventh NCAA top-10 finish under Smith and eighth overall. At the NCAA Champioships, five Tigers earned All-America honors and three reached the NCAA Finals, both program records. At the MAC Championships, six Tigers stood atop the podium as conference champions, also a program best.
Additionally, Smith has helped guide two wrestlers to the Olympics. Ben Askren was the first wrestler in program history to compete in the summer games with an appearance in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, followed by J’den Cox, who won bronze at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics this past summer. The whirlwind summer for Cox included trips to Iowa City, New York City, Los Angeles, Mongolia and Germany, all serving as qualifying or tune-up tournaments leading up to Rio. In four Olympic matches, Cox was not taken down once, an incredible feat for a wrestler who had under five months to prepare for freestyle competition after the completion of the folkstyle wrestling season. Cox narrowly missed out on the opportunity to wrestle for gold, falling 2-1 in the semifinals before defeating Cuba’s Reineris Salas Perez in the bronze medal match. Cox was awarded a two-point takedown in the closing seconds of the match after a video review. The match concluded after Perez failed to return to the mat after the video review, resulting in a disqualification.
