• One of first steps in construction of dentures– Base plate-represents body of denture– Occlusal rim-wax block. Used by lab technician
to place denture teeth

Steps
• The teeth are articulated in the lab, tested in the patient’s mouth-final fittings completed
• Last step-construction of dentures:– Investment or covering of rims– Wax is replaced by acrylic-forms denture base

Lab Activity
• 1. Prepare edentulous model– Use marker or pencil to mark around area where
denture will fit– Sprinkle model with baby powder
• 2. Soften a half sheet of baseplate wax with alcohol torch
• Using gloved fingers press wax onto form
• 3. Trim excess wax with a lab knife or scalpel
• 1/6 to ¼ inch around mucobuccal fold area
