• Selection of Niki Prize Winner – May 2015

George Wilson Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Kansas, USA was selected according the award rule by ISE (http://www.ise-online.org/awards/index.php). The award lecture will be given during 2016 ISE annual meeting in The Haag. Congratulations !! The Niki award is awarded every two years to a scientist who has made an important contribution to the field of bioelectrochemistry. Previous prize winners were: J. Ulstrup (2004), Rolando Guidelli (2005), Philip N. Bartlett (2007), Serge Cosnier (2009), Wolfgang Schuhmann (2011), Lo Gorton (2013)

Next year we select the Bioelectrochemistry Award. In 2014 James Rusling from University of Connecticut, USA was selected for this award and his award lecture was in Taipei on Monday in Symposium 2. The Bioelectrochemistry award is awarded every two years to a scientist who has made an important contribution to the field of bioelectrochemistry. We are waiting for your candidates (http://www.ise-online.org/awards/index.php).

66th Annual Meeting in Taipei – October 2015

“Green Electrochemistry for Tomorrow’s Society”, October 4-9, 2015, Taipei, Taiwan

Our division organized two symposia; one was our main symposium and the other one was a joint symposium with Divisions 1 and 6.

Electrochemical aspects of biological systems: theory, experiment and applications”

(Symposium 2) Symposium Organizers: Damien Arrigan (Curtin University, Australia) (Coordinator) [email protected] Shen-Ming Chen (National Taipei University of Technology, Taiwan) [email protected] Elena Ferapontova (Interdisciplinary Nanoscience Center, DK) [email protected] Mei-Jywan Syu (National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan) [email protected] Brief description: This symposium organized by Division 2 of the ISE was aimed to be a broad-based bioelectrochemistry symposium. It discussed all aspects of bioelectrochemistry, from fundamentals through to new technological applications. 11 young participants had short talks session and the prizes were awarded to:

Alexandra Bondarenko (Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne, Switzerland) Daliborka Jambrec (Ruhr University Bochum, Germany) and Makoto Togami (Kumamoto University, Japan). In the poster session of symposium 2: the winners were Christian Andre Gunawan (University of New South Wales, Australia) Aimi Suzuki (University of Tsukuba, Japan) Yuki Igaki (University of Hyogo, Japan) In Symposium 2 we had also 7 young Co-chairs - thank you for the contribution of all Chairs to the success of the symposium.

“Supramolecular electrochemistry for medicine and biological sciences” (Joint Symposium 16 organized by Division 1,2 and 6)

Symposium Organizers: Marilia Goulart (Div. 6, Coordinator) [email protected] ; [email protected] Stephane Arbault (Div. 1) [email protected] Renata Bilewicz (Div. 2) [email protected] ; [email protected] Hsien-Chang Chang (Local) [email protected] Chii-Wann Lin (Local) [email protected] Brief description:

The symposium was devoted to electrochemistry of supramolecular and biomolecular systems including studies of host-guest, donor-acceptor interactions, electrochemically triggered molecular switching and electrochemically induced motion in molecular or biomolecular motors. Electron transport mechanisms in the supramolecular assemblies was discussed, as well as their stereochemical aspects. The utility of electrochemical methods for the characterization of redox modulating natural products and newly designed antioxidants or anticancer drugs, and nanocarriers for the drug delivery were among topics of this symposium. The contributions were mainly in the following areas: self - assembly, inclusion complexes, biological and biomimetic membranes, molecular recognition, chirality, drug carriers, and redox therapy The winners of the Symposium 16 poster session were: Katarzyna Krukiewicz (Department of Physical Chemistry and Technology of Polymers Silesian University of Technology, Gliwice, Poland) and Yu Cheng (Department of Biomedical Engineering, National Cheng Kung University, Tainan), Taiwan Upcoming Meetings Related to Our Division • April 17-20, 2016, Auckland, New Zealand, Topical meeting “ Electrochemistry at Modified Interfaces” Div. 1 and 4 The theme embraces, but is not limited to, theory and fundamental studies of electron transfer, electrocatalysis, smart materials, electron transfer to biological species, electroanalysis, photovoltaics, and corrosion and surface treatments for industrial applications. • August 21-26, 2016 67th Annual Meeting in Haag – September 2016 “Electrochemistry: from Sense to Sustainability” Division 2 organizes two symposia:
