Twenty Five Minutes Older invites the audience to board a tram, a moving time capsule that can hold out against transience in the fast-paced city. Passengers on board see scenery passing by not through the windows, but in an enclosed compartment being turned into a camera obscura with two apertures on its sides. Running in parallel to the moving images is a textual narrative extracted from renowned Hong Kong writer Liu Yichang’s novella Tête-bêche.

Kingsley Ng

With a focus on site-specific, community-engag-ing, participatory and process-based projects, Kingsley Ng explores the various relationships within a context through interdisciplinary media. He often works with the ephemeral and the intangible, including light, sound, space and time, in interactive installations, public work- shops, and sound and spatial design.

‘XinGothic’ Interactive Installation is a tribute to Sammy Or’s masterful creation in Chinese font design. Programmed by an interactive designer, the installation detects visitors’ motion and generates different weather conditions composed of XinGothic Chinese characters. The work captures the power of nature in some ink-painting-like imagery using Chinese charac-ters as a subdued iconography. The work is a witty “word play” representing a modernised Chinese culture in the digital age.

The back to the future / redwhiteblue vase series are objects of paradoxy, playing on the polar opposites of classicism and contemporaneity, toughness and fragility, luxury and economy, and decorativeness and functionality. The work illuminates the artist’s recurrent approach of restaging popular iconology of classical Chinese art in a contemporary rendition. This redemptive gesture evokes a positive, hopeful and “going forward” attitude. Coupling with the redwhiteblue piece, the back to the future / salute to alessi / Alessandro Mendini vase is a tribute to Italian design perfection.

Fragment(s) is a limited edition of porcelain vases that captures the history, break and decayof a mould to reveal the beauty in deterioration and create a memory of what would otherwisebe discarded. The particular process to make each vase revolves around the poetics of decayand results in a totally unique and unrepeatable shape for each piece. No two vases look thesame as the moulds decay and colour combinations change.

Nicol and Tomas will present their recent collections resulted from collaborations with anextensive network of partners and specialists. Their designs are characterised by a searchfor simplicity, with a preference for clear forms and contextual relevance.
