This year, we ask you to join us for our 2019 Stewardship Campaign: I'm In. During October we'll examine what Shadow Rock means to us and the many ways we show that support. The practical aspect of the campaign is the purple pledge card that will be mailed this week. These cards are our best predictor of giving income in the next fiscal year, and we cannot create a budget without them. Please consider them together as a family and return them to the financial office as soon as you are able.

This week we go deeper into the I’M IN stewardship idea asking what inspires you. What inspires you to be a better person? What inspires you to have hope? What inspires you to generosity? What inspires you to care, believe and give to Shadow Rock?

We hope you are “All In” as you consider the work of the Spirit in your life, our congregation and our world.

Pre-Service Music The Times They Are A Changin’ Shared by Our Great Band By Bob Dylan

Come gather ‘round people wherever you roam And admit that the waters around you have grown

And accept it that soon you’ll be drenched to the bone If your time to you is worth saving

Then you better start swimming’ or you'll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin’

Announcements and Greeting Shared by Rev. Ken Heintzelman

Entry Into Worship Led by Judy Schwiebert Please stand if comfortably able

One: Dear friends, the Spirit of Life gives life to the world! All: Life that never ends! One: Here and now the abundance of God feeds the world! All: Plenty for all, enough for today! One: Come to the table of justice and joy! All: No one will be turned away! No neighbor in need will go wanting! One: Let praise go up to God our Life and Love! All: From every creature on God’s good earth!

Rock means to us and the many ways we show that support. The

Singing Our Welcome Gather Us In Please stand if comfortably able By Marty Haugen

1. Here in this place a new light is streaming, Now is the darkness vanished away, See in this space our fears and our dreamings Brought here to you in the light of this day. Gather us in, the lost and forsaken, Gather us in, the blind and the lame. Call to us now, and we shall awaken; We shall arise at the sound of our name.

2. We are the young, our lives are a myst’ry, We are the old who yearn for your face. We have been sung throughout all of hist’ry, Called to be light to the whole human race. Gather us in, the rich and the haughty. Gather us in, the proud and the strong. Give us a heart so meek and so lowly; Give us the courage to enter the song. 3. Here we will take the wine and the water,

Here we will take the bread of new birth, Here you shall call your sons and your daughters, Call us anew to be salt for the earth. Give us to drink the wine of compassion. Give us to eat the bread that is yours, Nourish us well, and teach us to fashion, Lives that are holy and hearts that are true.

4. Not in the dark of buildings confining, Not in some heaven, light years away, But here in this place, the new light is shining, Now is the Kingdom, now is the day. Gather us in and hold us forever. Gather us in and make us your own; Gather us in all peoples together, Fire of love in our flesh and our bones. Welcoming Prayer Offered by Rev. Ken Heintzelman

Word About Life Luke 14:25-33 Shared by Rev. Ken Heintzelman

Now large crowds were travelling with him; and he turned and said to them, ‘Whoever comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and even life itself, cannot be my disciple. Whoever does not carry the cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it? Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it will begin to ridicule him, saying, “This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.” Or what king, going out to wage war against another king, will not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to oppose the one who comes against him with twenty thousand? If he cannot, then, while the other is still far away, he sends a delegation and asks for the terms of peace. So therefore, none of you can become my disciple if you do not give up all your possessions.

Celebrations and Our Celebration Song

This is our time to share the celebrations of our lives: birthdays, anniversaries, words of kindness and works of peace and justice.

Celebrate your heart and your spirit, Celebrate your life while you live it.

Even when it’s hard to do, Celebrate the best of you.

Celebrate your dreams and your visions, Celebrate the love you’ve been given. Cherish all that you’ve been through,

Celebrate the best of you.

Call to Prayer and The Prayer of Jesus in Unison Shared by Rev Ken Heintzelman

Our Loving God Who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth As it is in heaven. Give us this day, our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, And the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Our One Table Celebration Bread, Wine and Invitation to Share Led by Judy Schwiebert

One: It is our custom to have an open table where all people are

invited to share bread and wine. We believe this is a continuation of the radical table hospitality of Jesus. All: His invitation proclaimed the vision of love, justice and

peace of God for all people. One: The larger story of table fellowship includes the reversal of social roles so as to make known the height, depth and inclusiveness of God’s love. All: We show our gratitude for all of life by inviting all people to the Table of Life! One: And now let the weak say, 'I am strong!’ All: I AM STRONG! One: Let the poor say, ‘I am rich!’ All: I AM RICH! One: The bread and wine are not for us alone, but are symbols of a universal message of hope that challenges the worldviews of

violence that feed oppression and separation. All: May our sisters and brothers in all lands join us in lifting

the bread of life and the cup of compassion. One: Today we ritualize and celebrate the inclusive table practices of Jesus. All: May this holy meal empower each of us to become partners in the Great Work of healing all people, all nations and all the planet.

This is our time to share the celebrations of our lives: birthdays,

Sending Forth Song Be Thou My Vision 1. Be Thou my vision, O God of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art. Thou my best thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.

2. Riches I heed not, nor vain, empty praise, Thou mine inheritance, now and always; Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, Great God of heaven, my treasure Thou art.

3. Be Thou my wisdom, and Thou my true word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, Still be my vision, Creator of all.

Group Spiritual Direction

Group Spiritual Direction offers a contemplative and confidential space to know and be known.

Group Direction is available to everyone, but it may be particularly welcome for those who are facing a transition, grieving, or entering a season of discernment. In a group spiritual direction session, you can expect periods of silence and opportunities for participants to share how the Spirit is at work in their lives. Deep sharing without advice giving or “agendas” can feel empowering and calming. Group size is limited to five participants. Gatherings at 7:00 pm in the Shadow Rock Chapel October 25 ~November 29 ~ January 3 For more information, email Karen via [email protected].
