Durable, robust and reliable: these are the distinguishing qualities of Sachtler fluid heads. For more than 50 years now, cameramen worldwide rely on the lightweight, compact and functional heads for tripods. The precise workmanship ensures that camera crews can concentrate fully on shooting, despite unusual working conditions and extreme temperatures.

The characteristics of true Sachtler fluid heads are the patented damping system, the finely-graded counterbalance and the use of modern, high-quality materials. On top of that Sachtler has established a worldwide service network. The proper head for each camera can be selected according to its area of application and weight: from a lightweight HDV Cam-corder to heavy film and studio cameras, accessories included.

Sachtler fluid heads offer easy and ergonomic operation, reflecting true German engineering and optimum for daily use, year after year.

SA drAg™A new, patented damping system, which is also patented, was devel-oped by Sachtler for the Ace fluid head. with Sachtler SA-drag™ (Syn-chronized Actuation Drag), individual segments provide very constant and, moreover, reproducible damping. The SA-drag™ offers a genuine broadcast feel for smaller-mass HDV camcorders and video-enabled DSLRs at an excellent price / performance ratio. In addition, the compact damp-ing module enables a compact fluid head design.

SnAp & go SideloAd mechAniSmThe practical sideload mechanism for the camera plate guarantees fast mounting and detachment of the camera: with the Snap & Go technol-ogy, the camera can be mounted from the side that can be a particular advantage when working with large camera set-ups. Furthermore, the sliding range of the camera plate is ex-tended with the sideload mechanism.

Touch & go cAmerA plATeSachtler fluid heads are also available with the tried-and-tested Touch & Go camera plate: with Touch & Go, the entire camera along with the camera plate can be detached and re-mount-ed in the blink of an eye. This assures that camera operators don't lose time when changing from tripod to shoulder-mount filming positions.

modificATion To flAT bASeSachtler fluid heads with a ball fitting(with the exception of the Video 18and Video 20) can be modified toflat base mounting with a few turns. To achieve this with heads in the 75 and 100 mm range, the operator only has to unscrew the threaded bolt. when working with a 150 mm bowl, the ball adapter is unscrewed. By transforming the head mount into a flat-based fitting, FSB fluid heads and others can be used with many sliders.

feATureSNumerous practical features, such as the phosphorescent Touch Bubble or the Boost Button for the adjustment of the payload are of great assis-tance during shooting. There’s even a parking position for spare screws which is appreciated by many camera operators.

counTerbAlAnce And SpeedbAlAnce TechnologySachtler fluid heads operate with reliable switching to desiredsettings, so camera setups can be quickly balanced. while adjustable systems without firm settinglevels often require time-wasting trial-and-error adjustment, the Sachtler counterbalance is achieved immediately. Also, most Sachtler heads are equipped with the innovative speedbalance technology, which guarantees fast and fine adjustment.

cenTer of grAviTy (cog) And pAyloAdS / cAmerA pAyloAdS And The effecT of cenTer of grAviTy (cog) heighTA fluid head’s payload is the amount of weight, camera and mounted accessories, the head is able to counterbalance. The decisive factor for calculating that payload is not only the raw weight of the camera and accessories, but also the CoG height (A) of the camera set-up. CoG height is the measurement between the horizontal/vertical CoG of a camera and the top edge of the fluid head being used. The effect on the head’s payload is that the shorter the CoG height measurement, the heavier the maximum camera and accessory weight can be. To optimally balance the camera, its CoG (B) must be directly above the pivot point of the head. Sachtler specifies the maximum payload for typical camera configurations for all of its heads. The payload chart contains information about how the payload of the respective head affects the CoG height and camera weight of the camera set-up.

dAmpingThe horizontal as well as the vertical adjustable grades of damping of Sachtler fluid heads gurantee perfect pan shots. The patented damping system by Sachtler works with a special lubrication grease. In doing so, it guarantees professional working permformance even in extreme temperatures from - 40 to +60 °C (- 40 to 140 °F).

It’s all about passion.

In the 70s, jane Goodall discovered that not only hu-mans work with tools but, so do chimpanzees. Since then, the British anthropologist has passionately analyzed the animals which are most like humans.

Richard Ladkani, who usually works as both director and cinematographer, was responsible for the camera work of this feature length documentary. Together with jane Goodall, he traveled to Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania. The result was a personal and very private portrait which shows jane Goodall’s enormous com-mitment, wisdom and, last but not least, tireless love of nature and all of its creatures. For “jane’s journey”, Richard Ladkani traveled to Africa, North America, Europe, and Greenland with his Cine 30 HD and Video 25 fluid heads from Sachtler.

A breathtaking rocky land-scape provides the backdrop for Alexandros Maragos‘s time-lapse video. Filming three days and nights with a Canon EoS 7D, the Greek filmmaker made an inspiring portrait of the centuries-old Metéora monasteries in Thessaly, a uNESCo‘s world Heritage Site. The different film locations could only be reached on foot. As Maragos

It’s all about culture.

The documentary “Heart of jenin” won the German film prize in 2010. And that was just the beginning: After that, the German director Marcus Vetter founded the non-profit association Cinema jenin e.V. He breathed new life into an old cinema on the west Bank and began to build a cultural center. Now, he’s working on incorporating

a film school for young Palestinians — if nothing else, a sign of hope and peace in the Middle East. Cinematographer Michele Gentile is overseeing the project on location. The drama “The Projectionist”, which is the young team’s first feature film, was shot with the dependable Sachtler Video 20 S1 fluid head.
