Principal’s Message
What a wonderful week we had last week. We have had so many visitors from the Department of Education
and other primary schools visit our gorgeous school to see what amazing things are happening.
Over the weekend Mrs Kurtz and Miss Vaughan attended a Minds Wide Open workshop around critical and
creative thinking. The workshop has provided the school with critical and creative thinking strategies and
resources to ensure our students will become equipped with the necessary skills for future learning and future
employment. Further training and development will be shared with all staff throughout the year.
Last night all staff participated in an extended TPL session to complete their CPR and Anaphylaxis training.
Over the next few weeks staff will be participating in stage planning days which are designed to allow collegial
cooperative planning to develop literacy and numeracy programs and assessment for students for Term 2.
Our Parent teacher interviews will be held in Week 11 this term. Staff are very excited to have time with
parents/carers to ensure strong home school partnerships are developed. A note with details will be sent home
shortly.
Parent Concerns and School Incidents
I would like to remind the community that any direct concerns you have regarding any incidents that occur
within school should be notified to the school directly.
I am asking community not to take actions into their own hands by contacting other parents around school
issues but trust in our staff, school procedures and departmental policies to ensure the safety of all children
and to ensure the principles of procedural fairness are followed for each and every child.
Please if you have any concerns contact your child’s classroom teacher, stage assistant principal or principal. I
appreciate your support regarding this matter.
Anti-Bullying Day
Anti-Bullying day is this Friday 16 March. At Redhead Public School we aim
to create a safe and supportive school community for everyone. Sometimes
it is difficult for parents or carers to know what to do when their child talks
about bullying.
The Bullying No Way website offers strategies for families.
www.bullyingnoway.gov.au
We had a lucky day last Friday
when the girls found a four leaf
clover in our playground.

‘Just Like You’
The Variety Children's National Not-for-Profit Organisation came to talk
to our students from Years 1-6. The organisation is committed to
empowering Australian children who are sick, disadvantaged or have
special needs to live, laugh, learn and to be respected and appreciated
by their peers. The 'Just Like You' program showed the students the
importance of celebrating what makes a person different. Our presenter
Amy, herself in a wheelchair, demonstrated to the students through
interactive and hands on physical activities that people with a disability
are the same as everyone else – they are ‘Just Like You'. Amy left each
class with things to think about before her next visit in a fortnight.
Easter Hat Parade – Kindergarten to Year 2
Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 will be having their annual Easter Hat Parade at 10:00am on Thursday 29
March in the COLA in front of the hall. Parents/carers are invited to come along and watch the parade. We
ask that children in Years 1 and 2 bring in their hats before Tuesday 27 March so that they can be used in
descriptive writing activities.
Kindergarten will be making their hats at school with their Year 6 buddies. A note has gone home with
additional details. Kindergarten to Year 2 students can come to school out of uniform on the day to add to
the festive feel.
Harmony Day
On Wednesday 21 March we will be celebrating Harmony Day. Students can come dressed in orange and
will be doing special Harmony Day activities within their classes. We will also be having a disco at lunch time.
For more details on Harmony Day please go to www.harmony.gov.au/about/.
Choir
I am so pleased to say that this year we have over 40 students who have joined our 3-6 Choir. This week the
students were sent home with a note including the 2018 performance schedule they will be involved in, their
commitment and choir duties. I have also set up the Google Choir Classroom so students will now be able to
access their choir material from home. Any relevant information parents/carers may need to know or may
wish to check can be done through Google Classroom . On Wednesday 4 April the choir will be performing
at our special ‘Respect, Inspire, Succeed’ assembly.
Coles Sports for School Program
We are pleased to announce that we have collected over 20,000 vouchers so far!
All you need to do is:
* Receive a Sports for Schools voucher for every $10 you spend at Coles.
* Bring the vouchers into school and place them in the collection bin that is located in the
front office.
* Every voucher will then go towards our school being able to order a variety of different
sports equipment.
So start collecting NOW!

Year 6 Moving into Year 7, 2019
An Expression of Interest form for moving into Year 7 in 2019 has been sent home with all of our Year 6
students. Please complete and return to the school office by tomorrow.
Library
It’s amazing to see so many students working hard to complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Lots of
students have been coming to the library at lunch times to read PRC books and log them online. I’m
particularly impressed to see so many 3-6 students independently taking part this year. Keep up the great
work!
This year we will be participating in the Dymocks Book Bonus, where students can be sponsored by their
families and friends to complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge. The money raised will be used to supply
books to children in need and new books for our library too. You can find out more at:
https://www.bookbonus.org.au/about/
If you would like to donate you can visit our page and do so here:
https://donate.grassrootz.com/dymocks/book-bonus-2018/redhead-public-school
This is a great cause and a great opportunity to improve your reading and comprehension skills. The more
students who complete the PRC the better so let’s get reading. Mrs Rhodes
Band
Our band is really taking off this year. They have learnt, practised and almost perfected 5 songs already and
it’s only Week 7. Many of our members are new and have only just started learning to read and play music
so their efforts deserve to be congratulated. It’s not too late to join if you are considering it. The more the
merrier! We have a range of instruments available for hire and contacts for expert tutors to provide private
lessons. Learning to play a musical instrument is a great way to increase memory, develop organization and
team work skills and is a fun social activity.
We will be organising an excursion to celebrate your successes and reward your dedication so let me know
if you have any ideas. Mrs Rhodes
Children’s University
Last Thursday we had Selina Delaney from the University of Newcastle
speaking to interested parents/carers and students about being part of
the Children's University Program for 2018. This year, the program will
be offered to students in Years 2-6. A signed permission note and the
$15 is due no later than Friday 16 March. Please bring these in to the
front office. After that, we will not be able to take any new students until
2019.

P&C News
Canteen Update
The canteen coordinators Leah, Belinda and Melita, have been busy working to get the school canteen
operational. The canteen is open for recess and lunch from Wednesday to Friday. A canteen menu was sent
home to all families last week. Canteen menus are also available in the school office, on the SkoolBag app,
Redhead P&C canteen Facebook site and a laminated copy will be placed near the lunch order box at school.
Canteen orders can be made online or by cash. Cash orders are written on a lunch bag, with money in the
bag and put in the lunch order box at school (located adjacent to the morning assembly area).
Online ordering is now available via the following website: www.school24.net.au
Parents are required to register first and use the following School Registration ID: 2562963
Here are the steps to register:
A clip has been posted on the Redhead P&C canteen Facebook page with instructions on how to place an

Volunteers are still desperately needed for a few shifts this term. If you cannot commit to a full day, it can be
extremely helpful if you can pop in to help sort orders, until recess, or spend an hour around lunchtime. We
are grateful for whatever you can contribute. You can volunteer by posting on the Redhead P&C Canteen
Facebook page or send a text to Louise Morgan on 0410 655 676.
Please have a look at the roster and get in touch if you can help out and fill some of the gaps. Your children
will love seeing you at school.

planning and teaching staff expenditure proposals for the P&C to consider. The exciting news is that we
voted and approved $9820 (school will match $ for $) to go towards the purchase of three Commboxes (think
flash smartboards) for classrooms. Thank you Redhead families for your ongoing generosity and support!
