When working with new coaches, I get asked all the time,

"Where do I find clients? "

When you open your mind, you begin to see potential clients sitting next to you on airplanes, at dinner parties, on the subway, or standing in line at the supermarket. They’re the next company or person who emails you or likes your Facebook post.

To be a successful coach, you need to know how to both leverage the clients that come your way and create new ones anytime you want.

My first and most important encouragement: Always lead with service!

You love what you do, so don’t wait to get paid to start sharing your gifts. People need to trust you. One way to build trust is by giving potential clients an experience of working with you so they can see what’s possible if they invest in themselves.

I call this Generosity Based Business. You’re in service everywhere you go — you’re doing what you love, and you’re filling your practice in a powerful way. When you live a life of service and share your gifts freely, people will be reaching out to you.

Advance yourself so you can advance those around you.

I want to support you with packaging your gifts in a way that’s efficient with your time and resources, while being able to reach and serve the clients you most want to work with.

Clients are everywhere!

F irst, identify your ideal client.Who would you love to work with?

This will help you:• Understand the problem you’re solving.• Put yourself in front of the communities that you can best serve.• Communicate and connect the dots with how your products or services can help

your ideal client.

T hen, ask yourself:What’s my favorite part of my business?

How can you do more of that while providing value to your ideal clients? When you align the work you love with being of service to others — doors will open in ways you can’t even imagine.

How much do I make, and how much can I give?

Make a clear decision on the specific amount of money you wish to make, and how many clients you want to serve.

Next, decide.

and finally...start serving!

Personally craft an email to people or companies you’d like to serve. If you want to fill your spaces, fill your calendar with serving. Be creative. Slow down.

Your practice fills one conversation at a time. Be present with whoever is in front of you and serve them powerfully.

Let them know you’d be willing to offer them time focused on strategizing around their goals. This is the perfect place to add value and demonstrate the service you provide.

Have the intention of leaving them better off having connected with you regardless of whether or not you work together.

My Mantra is: Connect + Serve.

Maybe they’ll become a client now; maybe they’ll reach out to work with you later; or maybe they’ll refer their boss or friend. Trust the process, stay open, and let go of attachments.

The best source of clients is through word of mouth! Make it easy for current and past clients to refer you.

• Offer a Gift-A-Session. Your happy clients can give an on-the-house session totheir boss, husband, or a friend they think will benefit from working with you. This opens your community and does good in the world.

• Some people offer referral fees, a special bonus, or a thank you gift to those whopass on your name.

• There’s always a master networker who loves referring. Keep an eye out for themand take good care of them. They are powerful connectors and love doing it.

Offer a one day intensive or weekend workshop — virtually or in person!

• Lead a workshop on a juicy, value-packed topic you know your target audiencecan benefit from.

• Invite your friends, clients, prospects and the public at a very affordable price orfor free. Lead those who are interested in diving deeper with you into a high-endprogram. Offer an early bird special or incentive for those who sign up that day.

• Ask current and past clients to bring a friend.

2. Start a Referral Program

3. Lead a Workshop

Prepare a talk that outlines exciting, informative strategies that solves a problem you know your ideal client faces.

• Speak at existing groups/gatherings where your ideal client hangs out.

- Reach out to meet-up groups, colleges, banks, networking events, golfcommunities, campuses, churches, corporate settings, schools, AA meeting/recovery centers, business organizations/companies, YPO, yoga centers, spiritual centers, networking events — wherever your ideal client hangs out, get in front of them and work your magic.

• Host your own event

- Book a venue. You can find a community center that’s free in your area, like apark or library, host at your home, or ask a friend if you can use their space for an evening.

- Consider inviting an influencer with a larger social media following or a moreestablished coaching practice as a way to increase attendance and serve your audience with more diversity.

• Be a hired speaker

- Get a speaking agent. Speaking gigs can range from $2,000 - $100,000+.

- You may choose to do it for free if you’re able to speak in front of a largeraudience or if it’s packed with your ideal clients. These are all potential clients!

Reach out to past and current clients and:

• Create a “first dibs” on your latest offer.

• Reach out to past participants (online or offline) and offer follow up supportfor those who participated in your last program.

Invite friends, colleagues, and clients to your office for an intimate evening event.

• If you don’t have a lot of people to reach out to, invite each person to bringa friend or colleague.

• If it’s complementary, have them RSVP because space is limited; which alsohelps with people actually showing up!

5. Reach Out

6. Hold an Intimate Evening Event

Listen to your intuition and life’s lead. Trust who you come across in your day and people who pop into your awareness. Be open to life leading and it being easier than you thought.

You can set the intention that life shows you who to support or sit in meditation with the question, “Who can I serve today?” Let it be an adventure and invite those who show up for a complimentary session or a call and serve them powerfully.

7. Lead by Listening

Let your current clients know you’re opening spots for 1-3 new clients and ask if they know of anyone who this type of work could serve. Or, share the description of your ideal client with a friend and ask if they know of anyone who can benefit from this type of coaching.

For example:

You: I am looking to serve two women that are up to something big, who are committed to their growth, but feel overwhelmed and need more structure and strategy to go to the next level in their business. Do you know of anyone like this?

Friend: Matter of fact, that’s my sister! I’ve never thought of her but she needs this so much!

You: How do you think this type of work could benefit her?

Friend: She tries to do everything on her own and she needs support both for herself and learning how to delegate and lead a team. She’s holding her company back by doing this.

You: I would be happy to get on the phone with her and offer her support, regardless of whether or not we decide to work together. Please let her know to reach out to me for a free consultation.

Friend: I absolutely will. Thanks so much!

Host a weekly, monthly, or quarterly event or luncheon to network and serve the community.

Consistently establishing yourself as a leader in your community is a great way to be at the top of your ideal client’s mind when they’re ready for coaching or when people are thinking of where to send referrals.

Offer a powerful breakthrough session exclusively for your e-mail list — and for a limited number of people only.

To be clear: I DON’T recommend using social media to create clientsin the beginning.

Building a social media presence takes A LOT of time. If you’re looking for clients fast, focus on creating opportunities to actually SERVE, instead of just building your way up to serving. But if you do have a list, a following, or are inspired to start growing one, you’ll also find strategies for taking advantage of social media and/or email marketing on this list.

9. Host a Regular Event

10. Offer a Breakthrough Session

There are ways of leading with service that don’t require your time.

A recorded webinar is one of the most strategic ways to target your ideal audience (and you can put it on your website). You can also host it live and connect with people more intimately, answering Q + A’s, coaching them and building trust. Either way, I suggest promoting it with Facebook ads to your target audience and from there you can lead them into your offering (1:1 work, a group, product, etc.)

Teach your target audience something valuable or offer tips and strategies to solve a problem you know they face.

Create an affordable or free entry level offering that leaves potential clients wanting more.

• A VIP Day for a small group where you focus on a specific topic or problem yourideal client wants solved.

• A complimentary session for a small number of potential clients which can leadinto a discussion about whether or not your high-end package is right for them.

• Offer a 30-60 day program and include a 1 day intensive or workshop as a bonusfor those who sign up early.

• Host a free challenge that kick starts registration for your new program. Throw ina limited time only discount for participants!

• Partner with a colleague.

- Organize a joint venture with a colleague who speaks to the same ideal clientwithout necessarily offering the same service.

- Offer your partner’s past and current clients a free breakthrough session.

- Your partner can also offer your clients something.

• Affiliate Program

- Which coaches would be excited to help spread the word about your programin exchange for a small cut of the profit you make from the clients they sendyour way?

• Throw an online challenge, contest, or giveaway with a colleague. That way bothof you are helping with the marketing.

As an attendee:

• Speak to like minded people and offer service, value, and how to get in touch.• Follow up in service to people you meet, invite them in, serve them powerfully.

As a presenter:

• You can prepare a presentation that offers support for a topic your ideal client isinterested in.

• At the end of the event, run a raffle. The first x number of people who email youget a complimentary breakthrough session.

Create a few ways people can work with you at different price points so clients who are a fit get a chance to experience your work in some way.

• Full Day Intensive (either for 1:1 clients or a group)

• ½ Day Intensive with a 45 minute follow up integration session

• Monthly and 3 month retainers

• 6 month or year-long packages (for deeper intensives)

• A weekend workshop

• An exotic retreat or a corporate training

• A mastermind as a high end offering
