Festivals are both political, cultural, and also social events

Since 1948, festivals have been an assembly to make joint plans about common issues...

120 countries will likely attend the 18th WFYS in Quito, Ecuador

Campus outreach: table booking, flyering, class-room speaks, letter to local campus media

Community outreach: talk to friends, ask for notification in labour council bullitteen, circulation on email list of local groups (ie. Council of Canadians, environmental groups)

FINAL PREPARATION Check-list before leaving:

Passport Emergency contact information Organizational materials (flags, etc.) Light-weight clothes with multiple layers Camera, note book, etc. Food for trip and 1st day US dollars

AT THE FESTIVAL Participating in the All-Canada delegation means:

Arrange bi-lateral discussions on behalf of Canada in cooperation with the All-Canada delegation;

Work to promote respect of all delegates and support the delegation leadership as best and constructively as you can;

Respect the bi-lingual or multi-lingual needs and multi-national character of the All-Canada delegation;

Raise problems or concerns about the festival with the delegation leadership first, before talking to other delegations;

Generally, try to work as a team not the Lone Ranger

AT THE FESTIVAL

Bring multi-media stuff to record interviews, events, rallies, etc

Bring materials to trade and exchange like cards, t-shirts, etc.

Have fun and adventures!!

Disappear without telling anyone for longer than 12 hours

Party beyond your limits

Harass, insult or otherwise offend other delegations – even if they are not fair, take the high road

STAYING ON IN ECUADOR? Travel across Latin America? Plan in advance with

visas, flu shots, and research

Other travel trips may be arranged through the cross-Canada committee or individual networks
