Designer besties, Adriana Giuffrida from the celebrated accessories label POMS and Stephanie Downey from DRESS UP, have joined forces this season to create a jewellery collection inspired by the idea of vanity and celebrating all things feminine. Drawing on the work of illustrator Bernadette Pasqua featuring motifs of hairpins, nails, mascara and eye pencils, and with a nod to the current trend in nail art, the pair have created a set of cast nails as the basis of the collection. Gold plated with gypsy set pink sapphires and oxidised with black spinel, the nails adorn necklaces, bracelets, rings and Giuffrida’s signature pom pom earrings. 1AM was lucky enough to snap up the ridiculously gorgeous Finish model ‘star-on-the-rise’ MATHILDA TOLVANEN for a cover story during her brief visit to Sydney recently. We hit her up for a quick Q&A at the end of the shoot - here’s what she had to say for herself.

1AM: Mathilda, you seem very natural and experienced behind the camera today, can you tell us how old you are and how long you’ve been modeling for?MATHILDA: Thanks! I’m 18 and been modeling full time for a few years now, since I left school.1AM: Can you tell us how you were discovered and when?MATHILDA: Sure. My friends and family kept telling me to try modeling when I was growing up. They finally encouraged me to join an agency in Helsinki when my family and I moved there in 2011. I did a few test shoots in Finland until 2012 when my agent sent me to Paris, where I signed with IMG Models.1AM: Wow, so things moved pretty quickly for you then?MATHILDA: Well I was only 15 and still in school in the beginning. I couldn’t travel much so did a few test shoots in Finland before signing with IMG and starting a full time modeling career.1AM: Good for you for sticking out your time in school!MATHILDA: I have a little high school left to finish actually but I intend to do this, and even study something else later on. I want to model for as long as possible first1AM: Sounds like you’ve got it all figured out… can you tell us a little about yourself on a personal level? Like where you grew up or what were you into as a kid?MATHILDA: Haha... random… errrm... football actually!1AM: Really? As in soccer?MATHILDA: Yes, I played for five years?1AM: Haha we weren’t expecting that!MATHILDA: I played in a league team in Finland in a small town when I grew up. The team was called F.C Ulvila. That’s also the name of the town I grew up in.1AM: Do you still play?MATHILDA: Only for fun with my brothers now! I stopped when I was about 12.1AM: So an interesting transition from football to modeling?!MATHILDA: Well then I went onto acting for a while until a few years ago (laughs).1AM: So we have a multi-talented woman in our midst! Back to the modeling - can you tell me about your favourite job so far?MATHILDA: Most recently a campaign for Bershka. I travelled to Bilboa in Spain where we shot from midday until midnight for 4 days. Was so much fun!1AM: Are you taking a break over Christmas?MATHILDA: Yes! I go home to Finland for Christmas with my family, then onto New York in the new year. 1AM: For NY Fashion Week?MATHILDA: I hope so… maybe.
