Characteristics of the operating area• In “ice free waters” of Barents Sea South (Area 1)

significant difference between “Coastal” and “Arctic” Barents Sea

• The “Coastal” challenge is cold climate and the need of winterization

• The “Arctic” challenges are related to combination of: - Polar lows and Arctic storms- Icing on vessels or installations and equipment- Icebergs/drifting ice- Fog during summer- Darkness during winter- Long distances to established infrastructure

• In “seasonal ice covered waters” of the Barents, Pechora and Kara seas (Areas 2-6) the sea ice represents the major additional challenge
