Playing many roles, Tahiti is French Polynesia's larg-est and most glamorous tropical island and home to its unique capital city of Papeete. French Polynesia and its main island Tahiti are in the eastern South Pacific. This region has long been recognized as one of the scenic wonders of the world. The Society Islands (as a group) were first explored by Captains Cook and Bligh, but they were made truly famous by the paintings of the artist, Paul Gauguin, and by the words of author, James A. Michener. Tahiti is the largest of the 118 islands and atolls that make up French Polynesia. The 402 sq. miles of Ta-hiti's surface area consists of mountain peaks reach-

ing over 7,353 ft. The deep green valleys are cov-ered with rainforests and soft ferns, with waterfalls cascad-ing into cool rivers and streams leading to flat coastal land, with fields of taro and flowers.

Nightlife Papeete has a rather unique flavor as far as its nightlife is concerned. The center for most of the activities is along Papeete's water-front road near the main dock and Ferry quay. In less than 1/4 mile in either direction from the ferry dock can be found the majority of all the bars, nightclubs, restaurants, and cyber cafes. Seeing at least one traditional Tahitian dance show should definitely be on the agenda as well!

Papeete, Tahiti Papeete, the capital and commercial hub of French Polynesia. Over 60% of all residents of French Polynesia live on the island, in and around the capital city of Papeete. Shopping As you walk along the nar-row streets of the city center you'll find all kinds of Polynesian products. Buy a fine piece of art, Black Pearl jewelry, unique handicraft, Pareo or T-shirt, or pick up some food, get some fishing

supplies, whatever... The ma-jority of tourism related shop-ping in Papeete is found along the waterfront from the Vaima center to the Mana Rock Cafe. Here, there are several consoli-dated "shopping centers" of gift shops, and boutiques.

Discover the spectacular bays and white sand beaches of Moorea. The lush mountain slopes are covered with rain forest or pineapple plantations. A wide, shallow lagoon sur-rounds the island's vertical mountains where waterfalls tum-

ble down fern-softened cliffs. Optional Tours While There...Take a circle tour of the island and visit Belvedere Lookout, one of the most spectacular lookout in the world. Pause at a local pineapple plantation in Paopaa Valley to capture views of the peak of Bali Hai used in the movie "South Pa-cific." Snorkle, scuba dive, go in search of wild dol-phins, or just relax on the beach.

Raiatea, French Polynesia Raiatea the second largest Island in the French Polyne-sian Archipelago known as the Society Islands, and the largest of the "Leewards." Located directly be-tween Bora Bora and Tahiti, Raiatea is closely situ-ated to all the wonderful South Pacific islands known to the world as Tahiti Polynesia. Raiatea itself is recognized throughout Tahiti as it's "Sacred Island"- the cultural heart of all Tahiti Poly-nesia. It is believed by historians that Raiatea was the main stopover point for early Polynesians newly arrived from Hawaii, then known as Hav'aii. The Island holds much fascinating history, legend, and lore, as well as Tahiti's most significant archeo-logical sites. Optional Tours While There...Stroll through a tropical orchid garden and visit the Tainuu Marae, one of the is-land's traditional open air temples. See a massive volcanic crater, all that remains of the mountain that formed the island over one million years ago. Take in views from atop The Mountain of 1000 Waterfalls. Board a motorized cata-maran and sail across the lagoon on a visit to Raiatea's sister island of Tahaa. Tour a family operated black pearl farm and watch islanders as they graft and culture oysters for pearl cultivation.

Bora Bora, French Polynesia Unquestionably the most mythical of the Pacific islands remains the island of all dreams. Lush tropical slopes and val-leys blossom with hibiscus, while palm-covered motu circle the lagoon like a delicate necklace. Perfect white-sand beaches give way to emerald waters where impossibly colored fish animate the coral gardens. Bora Bora itself is rather small, and can be circled by car in about an hour. The lagoon is 3 times the size of the land mass and offers an amaz-ing range of hues of blue and turquoise as you navigate its crystal waters. Optional Tours While There...Experience Bora Bora's beauty from two perspectives during a glass-bottom boat tour. Take in sweeping views of the island's dramatic landscape including 2400-foot Mt. Otemanu from the lagoon. Catch a dramatic demonstration of the island's underwater wonders as a diver feeds schools of tropical fish beneath your boat. Savor Bora Bora's scenic beauty on a lagoon cruise aboard a luxury catamaran. Stop at Bloody Mary's, the island's famous watering hole, and see a traditional island pareo demonstration.

THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS Unique * Magnificent * Unforgettable.

O`AHU The Gathering Place Oahu has a reputation for having the most consistently beauti-ful weather – light trade winds and 82°F almost year round. Cosmopolitan Honolulu features fantastic dining, world-class shopping, historic landmarks and glamorous Waikiki Beach. Away from the city, check out Diamond Head, the famous waves along the North Shore and more.

HONOLULU, Oahu - Where the spirit of aloha begins. The state capital, this sophisticated city blends culture with the eco-treasures of Oahu. There are an abundance of historical sites such as `Iolani Palace, America’s only royal palace. You’ll find a wealth of museums, among them the Bishop Museum, the foremost museum of Polynesian culture and an-thropology. Pearl Harbor, the USS Arizona Memorial, the “Punchbowl” National Cemetery and the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum offer moving insights into twentieth century battles. Join a shore excursion to majestic Diamond Head crater, take surfing lessons at Waikiki or head to Pali Lookout in the Ko`olau Mountain Range.

MAUI The Valley Isle This tropical paradise has it all: hundreds of spectacular beaches, cascading waterfalls, voluptuous jungles bursting with color and birdsong, dramatic volcanic craters and small, charming Hawaiian towns. You’ll agree – there’s nothing on earth quite like it.

MAUI - A masterpiece of nature With over three-quarters of its land uninhabited, Maui is like one giant natural park. Humpback whales, who seem to seek out the world’s most beautiful places, make this lovely island their breeding ground. So do spinner dolphins and a multitude of other marine life. Explore Maui’s interior, from the peak of Mt. Haleakala to the

splendid natural beauty of the sacred `Iao Val-ley. Drive the winding Road to Hana past jun-gles of ferns, countless waterfalls, underground caves and pristine lagoons. And still there’s more, because the cultural life in Maui is vibrant.

LAHAINA, Maui - Age-old capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom Nestled on the majestic western coast of Maui, where some of the islands’ best beaches can be found, Lahaina is the is-lands’ ancient capital. It is from this busy port that island girls once swam out to greet the whaling ships. Today, this quaint laid-back town is still a playground -- winding along the coast with museums, restaurants and shops. In the harbor, boats cluster waiting to take visitors on sunset cruises in waters teeming with dolphins and other marine life. Nearby, four-mile-long K`anapali Beach glitters with grainy gold and bright blue water. Snorkelers and scuba divers will want to head for Black Rock Beach, while upcountry Maui unfolds along the breathtakingly scenic Road to Hana.

KAHULUI, Maui - Gateway to the island’s sacred `Iao Valley As Maui’s only deepwater port, Kahului is a bustling harbor. Yet just minutes away are some of the island’s most scenic spots. Head to the heart of the island and the sacred `Iao Valley, where people of the island came to pay homage to the “supreme creator” in a setting of waterfalls, lush foliage, still pools and soaring peaks. Visit a Maui tropical plan-tation or hit the world-renowned links at nearby Kapalua. Whether you choose to kayak along the scenic coasts, drive upcoun-try or relax on the perfect beach, Maui is magnificent.

HAWAII The Big Island Larger than Hawaii’s other main islands combined, the Big Is-land of Hawaii is spectacularly diverse in both landscapes and activities. Pristine beaches, curious lava formations, the earth’s tallest sea mountain and the world’s most continuously active volcano all make this island a completely unique adven-ture.

Dominated by the twin peaks of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, both over 13,000 feet high, the Big Island of Hawaii is almost twice the size of all the other islands combined. Spectacular white-and black-sand beaches, dramatic cliffs, active volcanoes and even cactus-studded deserts carve the ter-rain. From the orchid gardens of Hilo to the sun-drenched Kona Coast, it is a place of many wonders, chief among them Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

HILO The Big Island of Hawaii - Volcanoes, Lagoons & Lush Valleys Tropical growth is rampant on Hilo: a giant greenhouse on the leeward side of the Big Island of Hawaii. Waterfalls careen through lush valleys and there are enough flowers to fill a rain-bow. Snow-capped Mauna Kea presides over it all from a lofty distance. Abandon yourself to the area’s more languorous tropical rhythms. Go picnic under a waterfall, watch for mi-grating whales, explore world-class botanical gardens, golf on the slopes of a volcano, snorkel in pristine waters or find a shady spot and nibble on the choco-late-coated macadamia nuts. Few, though, will want to miss the chance to walk on lava in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Take a trip to Kona or Waipi'o Valley.

KAUAI The Garden Isle Kauai offers a different kind of paradise – more low-key and pris-tine, and somehow more authentic. A Kauai rule states no building can exceed the height of a coconut tree, so the skyline is dominated by swaying palms, majestic mountains and almost daily rainbows. It is also considered the wettest spot on earth averaging more than 460 inches of rain a year. Because of this, Kauai is full of lush, picture-perfect beauty.

KAUAI - An Earthly Garden of Eden Just one of Kauai’s features, the stunning Na Pali Coast, would win it the description of paradise. But this island’s beauty takes in so much more: Ha-nalei Valley, Wai`ale`ale Crater and Waimea Canyon, are considered the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific.” And the wildlife is incredible: rare endangered sea turtles, playful dolphins, moray eels and yellow tangs swimming in pro-tected coves where you can dive and snorkel. This is the island to take that 4-wheel drive mountain safari, soar in a helicopter above the astonishing canyons or golf at Kauai-- and find heaven on earth, your style.

NAWILIWILI, Kauai - Gateway to the Na Pali Coast The flame-red flowers of the Wiliwili Tree frame this quaint port. Less known is the charming lighthouse, built in 1932, that graces Nini Point at the northern end of Nawiliwili Bay. Throughout the Garden Isle you’ll find an endless array of exotic spots to visit, from rainbow-ringed Waimea Can-yon to Hanelei Bay, gateway to the soaring cliffs of the Na Pali coast. Ad-venture awaits in the form of kayaking, scuba diving, snorkeling, rafting and canoeing. But if you prefer to stay dry, there’s horseback riding, biking, golfing and some of the most beautiful walks on earth.
