A few sips and you’re an irresistible Casanova! Nemorino’s down and out –dead-end job, hardly noticed by the ladies, and hopelessly in love with Adina, who’s indifferent to his yearnings. But she’s not indifferent to the yearnings ofSergeant Belcore. (There’s something about a man in uniform.) Poor Nemorinohardly stands a chance until huckster Dr.Dulcamara whips up an“Elixir of Love”

(really, it’s bad Bordeaux) that makes Nemorino the go-to guy for some serious loving.Make it your pre-Valentine’s date night – a comic opera with lovable characters,

wonderful arias, beautiful sets and dazzling costumes.

Fully-staged opera in two acts. Sung in Italian with English supertitles.

Who says you can’t dance to symphonic music when you’ve got the famous tunes from West Side Story… and more? Rachmaninoff ’sSymphonic Dances is orchestrated to perfection with rhythmic vivacity and lush melodies. Barber creates suspense with Medea’s contemplation, increasing in intensity until finally unleashing the fury of a woman scorned.

Tchaikovsky’s most colorful symphony, the Fourth, packs a wallop of belting good tunes, toe-tapping rhythms and vivid orchestration, combined with fatalistic tragedy and balletic grace… and of coursethe famous pizzicato movement.

Glazunov Spring (Vesna), Musical Picture in DStravinsky Violin Concerto* Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 4

Raymond Leppard knows a thing or two about early music authenticity. With guys like him on the podium, Mozart and Beethoven could only sound more precise if they were standing over his shoulder. And Mozart in the hands of Orion Weiss is treated with exceptional grace, dignity and artistry.

Beethoven Leonore Overture No. 3Mozart Piano Concerto No. 25*Elgar Enigma Variations

Mahler’s Fourth Symphony paints a musical portrait of those matters he continually wrestled with: questions of existence, of what happens after death, of what lies behind the everyday, surrounded by the poetry and world of the fabled “Wunderhorn.” Barber’s centennial tribute concludes with his famous tear-jerker Adagio and peacefully serene Knoxville.

If this isn’t heaven in a concert hall, then here’s as close as it gets!Holst’s spectacular sonic space journey embodies the mystical voicesof the planets. Vaughan Williams (in friendly competition with Holst)declares the ultimate triumph of the soul’s destiny, set to the poetry of Whitman. The “more gifted” of the Strausses (according to brotherJohann) waltzes in with celestial sounds.

Josef Strauss Music of the Spheres Vaughan Williams Toward the Unknown Region*Holst The Planets*

Leon Fleisher, one of the past century’s great pianists, was suddenlylimited to playing with only his left hand. But he refused to let this affliction stop him from championing the one-handed repertoire. One such work is Ravel’s Left-Hand Concerto inspired by a pianist who lost his arm in the first World War, which often makes one handwork hard enough for two!
