Tier 2 Events in the Series for 10-13 Years receive 325 points, 6-9 Years in Series 315, 4-5 Years in Series 310, 2-3 Years in Series 305, & 1st Year 300. Additional points are given for the following specifics: Elite races 15 points, “Road Trips” (over 38 miles from local area) 10 points, XC events 10 points, Less than half marathon down to 10K distance 10 points, & 15 points for 1/2 marathon. The largest race of the previous year receives a 5 point bonus (NC July 4th in 2010). **List continues on inside of back cover.
GUIDELINESFOR13thANNUAL2011SUBWAYCHALLENGESERIES There are four divisions in the Subway Challenge Series-Competitive, Recreational, Elite & Walking. In the competitive division you must complete 6 events, we score your top eight events. Awards will go to the top five overall, masters 40 & 50, & the top 5 in the following age groups:13 & under, 14-18, 19-23, 24-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & over. The recreational division participants & walking division participants must complete a minimum 6 races in the series. In all three divisions points are determined by how far in time you finish behind the leading Challenge Series Participant (entered in Competitive Division) in each event. You divide your time into the winning time (first convert both times to seconds) and multiply the results by the number of points available for that event. Men & women are figured separately. The minimum points for any event are 300. The elite division participants will be required to run 6 of ten events designated as Elite Series Races. The Elite races are: Union Hospital “Run for Home” 1/2 Marathon, Barberton Community Foundation Jeep Davis 5K, Pvt. Heath Warner Memorial 5K, Jackson Night Glow 5K, North Canton YMCA 5 Mile, Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival 5 Mile, Canalway Classic 5K, Alliance Rotary Castle Run 10K, “Stomp the Grapes” 1/2 Marathon & Perry Rotary Turkey Trot 5K. Elite runners will be scored on basis of position within those individuals designated as Elite runners. (Example-In an elite race, elite runners finish 1st, 4th, 5th, 8th. Their point totals would be 1, 2, 3, 4. Low total wins for your six best races of the ten designated as Elite Events.) In case of ties going into the final race, finish place in the final event of the season will be the tie breaker. If two runners are tied for a position, and one does not run the final race of the eight, the individual who runs the final event will be determined the winner of the tie. In 2011 Races were placed in one of two Tiers. New events & smaller events are Tier 1. Normally, more points are available for Tier 2 events for those interested in points. Points available for each event are listed on the inside of the front & back cover. Points will be from 300 points to 350 points. In addition there will be the following bonus points added to that total: “Road Trip” 10 bonus points will be awarded to races that are over 38 miles from our headquarters in Canton (Zip 44706), Elite Races will have an additional 15 bonus points, The North Canton YMCA 5 Mile will have an additional 5 bonus points as it is the largest event that was part of the 2010 Subway Challenge Series, Less than 1/2 marathon down to 10K events will receive 10 Bonus points, 1/2 Marathons will receive 15 bonus points. XC Events will receive 10 Bonus Points. There will be no bonus points for two events on the same day. As an encouragement to runners to participate in more Series events, 10 bonus points per race (maximum of 30 points) will be awarded for runners who complete between 9 & 11events. All entrants in the Series who complete 6 events will receive a special award (In 2010 it was an embroidered headband & Gloves), be able to attend the picnic at Maize Valley with immediate family members free of charge, & be eligible to attend the banquet at the end of the year free of charge. When two or more distances are scheduled for a race, only one will be scored as the Competitive Event and that will be the longest event of those listed. If there are two or more distances scheduled for an event, the competitive runner is encouraged to run the longer event. Competitive runners running the shorter events will receive 200 points only. The recreational competitor can choose any distance and will received points deter-mined in the normal fashion or if they run the shorted event they will receive a flat 200 points. The Heart & Sole 1/2 Marathon, with three events, will have the 1/2 marathon designated as the primary event. The 10K & 5K will both be worth 200 points. Please take this into consideration when signing up for the competitive or recreational division & the length of the races you select to run throughout the year. All participants must complete a minimum of 6 events to be considered as completing the series.
