WELCOME
We welcome you to our members’ bazaar which isbeing held on sewing day and night this month. Abig thank you to our hostess groups who will be lookingafter us. On sewing day we have Sandypatchers andon sewing night our hostess group will be Pally Patchers.
VISITORS AND NEW MEMBERSIf this is your first visit to sewing day or night and you do nothave a group, please feel free to sit at the Loose Threadstable to meet us. We are delighted that you have joinedus. Visitors are welcome to attend three times, but thenthey are are required to join as members to continueenjoying the benefits that membership provides.
COMMITTEE NEWSFollowing the AGM, we have a few new faces on ourcommittee. Jill Macdonald joins the managementcommittee as our association secretary, and HelenPerlman is our membership secretary. New membersjoining the General Committee are Carla Morris as Quilters’Quarterly editor, Pam Richardson as librarian and SusanCreer as keeper of the goods. More information about thecommittee can be found on page 2.
At the time of writing, two vacancies exist on the generalcommittee – hostess group coordinator, (sewing day) andStitched and bound exhibition convenor.

MEMBERS’ BAZAAR
Tuesday 21st September
Beginning at 10 am
We ask that members do not arrive until 9.45 am onthe morning of the bazaar as we will not be admittingyou before that time. This is to allow our sellersadequate time to set up their stalls and displays readyfor purchasers.I am looking forward to seeing you there. I am surethere will be some bargains to be had!
MORNING TEA:
No volunteers have offered to take on the position ofhostess group coordinator for sewing day since myemail earlier this month.
What can we do about this? It really does mean thatas from next month there will be no tea, coffee andbiscuits for members if no one takes on this position. Iam hoping to talk to you all about this on sewing dayso please come loaded with suggestions and ideas,not only about how we can fill this job, but also howwe can encourage more new faces on ourcommittee.
In the interim, Roberta Chantler has offered to bringthe milk and biscuits for this month. A huge thank youto Roberta.Tea and coffee will be available from 10.15 am at thismeeting to give everyone a chance to set up readyfor the bazaar, which is usually such a busy day!

Introducing Carla Morris
Carla Morris, the new Quilters’ Quarterly editor, worksas a professional editor for publishing houses such asOxford University Press when she is not sewing andblogging under her Granny Maud’s Girl alias.
She is also a former chair of the Institute of ProfessionalEditors’ accreditation board, the national body thatexamines professional editors’ skills.

The next edition of Quilters’ Quarterly will have a neweditor and a new look. If you or someone in any ofyour groups has made anything special or doneanything interesting and relevant to our craft, wewould love a story and photographs (high resolution)to include in the newsletter.

We welcome Pam Richardson as our new librarian thismonth. Pam is a retired librarian and looks forward tosharing her experience with our members. Ross Ellisand Thea Williams will continue to assist Pam in thelibrary.

Robin Gartner has prepared another interesting blockof the month for us all. This will be the last for 2014.Please remember to bring in your September strippyand scrappy blocks.
Yes, the community quilts group will have lots ofinteresting things for sale at the members’ bazaar. Weare self-funding for wadding so this is our big chanceto prepare for 2015. Happy shopping!

Member’s Competition
We have been invited to assemble an exhibition atthe Ellenbrook Gallery in August and September 2015.We are hoping to display as many different styles andaspects of quilting as possible to begin a celebrationof 40 years of WAQA. (The formal 40th Anniversary willbe in 2016.) A catchy title is needed for this exhibition,so we invite all members to submit an entry to the titlecompetition. Entries will close on December 30, 2014,and the winner will be announced at the January2015 sewing day. Entries can be emailed to Judy

CRAZY QUILT Lesley Fry
For the history of our association exhibition at theEllenbrook Gallery in August and September2015 (explained above), the Crazy/Hexagon
Quilt Club would like to create a crazy quilt with asmany different blocks as possible. The final quilt size isto be 90cm x 120cm. The colours, style of handembellishments and the number of blocks is stillundecided.
