It is a privilege to have been chosen to host the 59th NMML Conference this year, and we expect it to be memorable for you!

Many exciting things are occurring in Hobbs, and we are thrilled to share them with you. Rockwind Community Links, the site of Tuesday’s golf outing, has brought in writers, promoters, and golf professionals from all over the world. These opportunities have earned Rockwind many accolades and worldwide publicity, thus spreading the word about Hobbs, New Mexico and what we have to offer.

We have become a destination for numerous softball and baseball tournaments thanks to our $5.2 million artificial turf project at Veterans Memorial Complex. Tournaments hosted at Veterans Memorial Complex bring a minimum of 60 teams with each tournament, benefitting our hotels, restaurants, and retailers. Near the Lea County Event Center, which will be the site of many of this week’s activities, is the future site of the Health Wellness and Learning Center (HWLC). The HWLC is a $65 million recreation facility that will provide our citizens and those in surrounding areas a place to swim, run, exercise, study, and enjoy with their family and friends all year long.

Residents of Hobbs are no stranger to improving the community through hard work and dedication. Enrollment rates continue to rise at our two colleges, New Mexico Junior College and University of the Southwest. Our arts community is prosperous, growing, and contributing much to the artistic culture of the Southwest. This growth and so much more demonstrates that we are successfully diversifying our economy. Whether you are a first-time or returning visitor, please explore and enjoy your stay in Hobbs, America!

Welcome to

This award winning facility, which underwent a complete re-design and opened in 2015, provides the citizens of Hobbs with an amenity like no other in the country. The Community Links concept, the first of its kind in the United States, includes a championship 18-hole course, a 9-hole par-3 course, a dual ended practice

range and multiple short game areas for practice and learning. Since opening, Rockwind Community Links has received the following

an adoption clinic and a shot clinic which will be open to the public, as well as assist with a bathing/exercise station for the pets. Throughout your participation, you will learn how the City of Hobbs, the Lea County Humane Society and Lea County Correctional Facility have partnered together and developed the Prison Puppy Program, a behavioral dog training course that assists these pets in finding new homes. Elected Officials will receive one credit towards their Certified Municipal Official (CMO) certification. Meet Randy at 9:45 am in the lobby of the Zia Park Hotel and car pool from there. Wednesday, August 31st Opening General Session1:00 – 2:30 pmRorke Denver – Preparing Your Team for Battle

Rorke Denver trains the men who become Navy SEALs—the most creative problem solvers on the modern battlefield, ideal warriors for the kinds of wars America is fighting now. With his years of action-packed mission experience and a top training role, Commander Denver understands exactly how tomorrow’s soldiers are recruited, sculpted, motivated, and deployed. In his speech, Rorke Denver recounts his epic tales of heroic action during his service abroad as a Navy SEAL.

Thursday, September 1stClosing General Session 1:15 – 2:15 pm Jason Roberts – Build a Better Block: How to Make Real Change in Your Community, Today

How can we drive change in our communities and move past unproductive committees and outdated regulation? How do we become the “bike part of town” and revitalize stagnant blocks? In this funny, smart, energetic, and breathless talk, arts activist Jason Roberts of the Better Block Project encourages us to stop waiting around. Even if that means painting in our own crosswalks, bringing in our own trees, and blackmailing ourselves into action.

He then applies the value of training, preparation, teamwork and motivation to the everyday work force. Rorke utilizes his personal experience on the battlefield to motivate countless audiences to become modern day corporate warriors, ready to deliver lasting results.

Commander Rorke T. Denver has run every phase of training for the U.S. Navy SEALS and led spe-cial-forces missions in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and other international hot spots. He starred in the hit film Act of Valor, which is based on true SEAL adventures.

Roberts is the founder of the Oak Cliff Transit Authority, originator of the Better Block Project, co-founder of the Art Conspiracy and Bike Friendly Oak Cliff, and recent candidate for US Congress. In 2006, Jason formed the non-profit organization, Oak Cliff Transit Authority, to revive the Dallas streetcar system, and later spearheaded the city’s effort in garnering a $23 million dollar TIGER stimulus grant from the FTA to help reintroduce a modern streetcar system to Dallas. In 2010, Jason organized a series of “Better Block” projects, taking depressed blocks with vacant properties in Southern Dallas and converting them into temporary walkable districts with pop-up businesses, bike lanes, cafe seating, and landscaping. The project has now become an international movement and has been featured in the New York Times, Dwell magazine, and on NPR. Roberts has spoken at TEDx Austin and Oklahoma and is the recipient of the Champions of Change award in Washington DC for work in Transportation Innovations.
